I have finally got around to adding more mods to an old project head (which came to me with extensive miliput mods already... expand below if interested, the head looks a little different now however ) Spoiler: The head showing a lot of miliput coverage with the original mods My mods are now 90% complete-ish and under going a temporary faceup so I can get an idea on what to tweak (hence no recent photo). As I don't have an airbrush, having difficulties covering the obvious miliput. Are there any tips on how to blend miliput mods on contrasting resin? I am aware of (but need to re-find the info) thinning acrylics with a medium and painting multiple thin layers, usually carried oit when colour matching heads to bodies. But then was thinking about painting the head (after all the mods are 100% done) with a thin layer of miliput slurry, obviously sanding for a smooth finish. The slurry being a thin paste made from miliput thinned with isopropyl alcohol. Has anyone done this before? Any tips or caveats as I know the surface will not be the same as resin... Thanks
I don't know about milliput slurry, but thought I'd add a third paint-on option - you can use thinned paint and a makeup sponge to gently pat paint on the head in thin layers. The texture will be different to resin, of course. Since the slurry contains isopropyl alcohol, I'd definitely try it out somewhere hidden first in case it has any effect on the resin or hinders the faceup application in any way.
What cobaltconduct said! I've used the makeup sponge option and it works really well. It's a little toothier than resin, but it doesn't look bad at all.
@cobaltconduct I had completely forgotten about using makeup sponges, have a stash somewhere bought for this very purpose. And a good point out possible reactions between the isopropyl and resin, thank you @Isabeau fabulous, need to locate the sponges and will have a go. Already done some masking of the miliput with heavy application of pastel, so have a head start on this just need to locate a suitable body to colour match too (as this is an old yellowed head already )
