Other ways of Buying/selling other than paypal?

Aug 16, 2011

    1. A while back I had lost my Paypal for "Security Risk" reason. They wouldn't tell me any further than that.
I never had a bad transaction. I had a 4$ opps once, But I was able to use my account months after that. That problem was corrected in the same day.
I tryed to open another account but it was closed and they told me if i was to make anymore accounts that they would be closed.

I am slowly becoming more and more distant from this hobby and one by one finding myself having to reshell or even sell my dolls/parts/heads. And they don't sell because I think people are weary of me due to not having one anymore! I just don't know what to do!

It is really inconvenient not having a paypal account. So I feel like I should ask, either for encouragement or just for not feeling so alone about this issue.

Has anybody ever had this issue with paypal?
Do you think that I should leave the hobby?
What is the best alternative to paypal?

    2. This question might go better in the buying/shipping question and advice subforum. ^_^ But to answer your question, there's etsy and you could always make your own website.

    3. 1. I haven't had any problem with paypal before and hopefully never in the future.
      2. Don't let this discourage on what you love!!!!!!! Always remember that!!!!! :3. It's not the end :3.
      3. (For buying) Paypal is convenient when it comes to transactions and payments, and can be one of the most safest I've used. Although there are other options that you could go for, such as bank transfer, or western union (anything similar to this) but not as convenient. I believe there is also something called Google check out (that is something to look into and research about it). If all fails, you can ask someone that lives very closed to you (friends or a family member) and very trustful, and ask them to use their paypal account (if they have one) and simply pay them back by writing a check or cash.

In addition, go with etsy if you can't use ebay to sell your stuff :3.

    4. If I were you, I'd make the effort to get the problem with PayPal sorted out, because otherwise I'm afraid it's going to be a big red flag to anyone considering a transaction with you.

    5. Actually, I'm pretty sure Etsy is supposed to just be for handmade goods. So unless you are selling doll items you personally made, Etsy is not an option.

Have you tried contacting PayPal via telephone? I find if you can get an actual PP representative on the phone they can be quite helpful and might be able to tell you why you are considered a "security risk" and what can be done to fix it.

People like to use PP to pay for items because it offers a modicum of protection. If I bought a doll from you and paid via check or postal money order, once you have the money I have no recourse if you do not send the doll.

Other alternatives could be going to a doll meet up to try to sell things in person or looking into Google checkout. I once bought an item using my credit card and Google checkout and it worked like a charm. I've no idea what the fees are like for sellers though.

In terms of leaving the hobby, that really needs to be your own decision. I think anyone who has been in the hobby long enough has times when they are more interested in their dolls than other times. But only you can really decide how much you want to continue on.

    6. I have 5 times contacted them. I pleaded with them and begged them to give me a reason why This would have happened. They just told me that they have really strict polocies and cannot reveal why that happens. They also told me that they can even close your account for absolutely no reason at all. I kept calling and even emailed. I spoke to one woman that said that she felt so bad for me that she would ask her manager if he would appeal my case personally. I never heard back from them. But she said that there was a 10% chance of ever get it appealed. T_T. I never had any reason for this to happen. I never once logged into paypal on another computer so nobody could have stolen my info.

From what I know esty is paypal only. But I could be wrong. You can also sell anything not just hand made i think. There is an option in search. Or something :?

    7. No, as rkold said, etsy is for handmade items-- the info is clearly written on their info page. In addition, you may sell vintage items 20 years or older and the supplies used by crafters/artists to make other items. So fabric, yes, fabric made by you into a doll dress, yes, fabric made by someone else into a doll dress, no. And definitely no to bjds, unless you made them yourself.

      Their rules are here:

Edited to add: this thread seems kind of off-topic to me, kind of like asking ways to improve your credit rating...

    8. Second this. You could always ask for money orders or personal checks. But it would be a HUGE red flag to me if you couldn't/didn't have a Paypal account. With money orders and checks there's nothing stopping you from taking the money and running. At least with Paypal you can dispute transactions (and hopefully win your money back).

I find it hard to believe you didn't do anything. Paypal doesn't close accounts just because they feel like it.

    9. Im sorry but i find ostrichs comnent to be a little rude paypal can and will close an account for any reason they want it could be something so small as buying from china or doing too many personal payments just look at paypalsucks.com for horror stories and there is also others with similar stories she isnt the first person that this has happened to theres also paypal petition and f***paypal.com not starred the actual word just cant say on doa

    10. That statement sort of offended me. first of all they CAN close your account at any time for any reasons Please read your info before you decide to post comments like that!

I am not asking your opinion about how they closed my account. I am looking for people who have had these issues, or alternatives. I realize that this blinks red flag all over it. What can I do. This has happened to many innocent people around the world daily.

Oh heres the user agreement FYI.
      Paypals user agreements.

There is the section that states they can close it.

Oh Mods If this thread is deems off topic I am sorry.

    11. As members have already said, there are other ways of buying and selling other than paypal, such as money order, postal order, cheque and cash on delivery, but for convenience and security, many people do prefer to use paypal only.

Whether or not you choose to remain in the hobby is entirely up to you, but if you are enjoying yourself and your dolls there's no need to give it up just because one issue is not perfect.
