I hate to ask what might be a really obvious question... but I'm thinking of getting an OrientDoll Tae, but I'd heard some rather dispariging words about his joints. As my future dolls will be photographed pretty frequently, poseability is rather high on my list of 'wants'... I quite dig his face and body sculpt, and his price tag ain't nothing to wag at, either. (orient doll orientdoll tae) Can a few Tae owners comment on his joints/poseability? I tried using the search function, but nothing comes up for me when i search for 'orientdoll tae' 'orient doll tae' and 'tae', 'tae joints' and etc. Apologies if the thing was simply behind the milk. ........................... Mod Note: This is the discussion thread for Orientdoll Mini Dolls Photo thread: Clothes that fit http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89540
I have a Tae....is there something specific you'd like to know? Joint appearance isn't any worse than your average Luts, but he isn't the best poser I've owned by a longshot. Mine was restrung looser than he was originally (which was so tight it pulled through the resin loop on the wrist), so it takes some work to get him to stand. On the whole, he's got similar posing limitations to the large Elfdoll girls. Hope this helped.
I have a Tae and an Il and the posing is about the same for any doll with a one piece torso. I also have a SD10 boy's body and they pose about the same. I wired Tae's legs to get rid of the kicky legs and both my orient dolls stand nicely now. The feet have to be balanced but that's the same for all my dolls. There are a few shots on my incoming doll thread. I will say they look really cute when they are sitting leaning back against their arms. They pose better than the AR cien boy that I had as well. I think it's just a matter of taste. Some people like the added flexibility of a jointed torso. It is harder for the orientdolls to sit up but possible with a little work. The sculpt more than makes up for the shortcomings and with wire and maybe sueded knees you shouldn't have any problems.
I also have a tae and he's can be hard to pose, but mine doesn't have shoes atm so sometimes having him stand is hard, but im not sure about how the shoes would change that. Mine doesn't have too bad of a kicky leg problem. He tends to fling one of his arms, but i think if i actually restrung him it would be better.
Mine stands fine and sits beautifully....he's just a bit more tense with his body language, which really is playing into his personality, which worked for me. It might not for everyone. But he poses well enough for me to play with him. I think if he had wrist and ankle balls or something, it would help with that posability of his hands and feet...they just don't move that much. But he's just so gorgeous and charasmatic (to me!), that it's all ok...
The website says 5.4 inches..... Is that really so? It confuses me -_-; because DOD said that a DoC Si's circumference is 4.8, while the circumference of ankle is bigger. In fact, 6.5cm -_-;;; I know that DoCs are quite slimm, and I thought Orient Dolls would be too. Does anybody have a Tae or a Il they can give me the REAL measurement of? DOC Si is 15~16cm So it means that A Il would be actually thinner -_-;;; Around 14cm. Hm... anybody help?
I LOVE the Orientdoll tae but of course he is a little bit short for my other MSDs... I fear he wouldnt go with them...But hes got such a beautiful face! So, does anyone think there is an MSD out there that looks similar in the face to a Tae that would be a good substitute?
In all honesty I've looked long and hard for MSD boys with a similarly mature face The most mature MSD boys I have seen are Narins and B-els. Limho also looks like he could be very mature with the right face-up.
I found that Tae will fit in at least in my family he does. If you look around you, people come in all sizes. He is the equivilant of a 5'5"- 5"7" or so man compaired to someone of six feet or so. He looks so handsome that I can't bear to hold his height as a reason not to get him. Think of him as a Tom Cruise type..... or maybe not. Just my opinion. My grandma was 5'10" and my grandpa 5'5". Maybe I am just used to short men.
This is true...I really need a think about Tae, I keep coming back to him, but would like to look around first...I am a 5'4 man myself!
I agree, the OD minis fit in to a certain extent. They're a similar height, but their proportions are closer to a 1/6 scale doll than a typical 1/4 scale bjd. Here's a pic to illustrate that - from left, a CP Ttori, one of the larger headed minis, an OD Il, and an OD Tae. Some people would find this not so good a fit, if they meant the OD boy to pair romantically with a standard mini. Personally I love the face and body sculpts so much on these OD boyz that I really don't care about the scale issue.
Taes are gorgeous, and not as significantly shorter as you may think. He's about the same height as my friend's Bee-A, maybe even a smidge taller. And with shoes there isn't much height difference at all beside an MSD. The only issue is his proportions- he is very realistic and masculine, and slender. So he could look a little awkward around MSDs, but around more realistic-style SDs, I think he looks fine- just like a tiny version of them. I had concerns over how he'd look next to other dolls, too, but he's so beautiful it just doesn't bother me. It is hard to appreciate them for what they are until you see one in person.
Thanks! I think the OD boys, both versions, are spectacularly handsome, legs for miles, and very sexy. The Il and the Tae seem to be perfect foils for each other. Tae's more serious and even cranky. Il's a bit of a clown. Don't be scared off by the negative things you might read about these beautiful boyz. Sure, they have their idiosyncrasies, but their good looks and personality more than make up for those. Here are a few more pics of of Turiel, Takira's Tae, and Tabris, my Il: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b333/universaldonor/tabris/ You might find a few more scattered throughout my other albums. Feel free to look.
If I hit the lottery tomorrow, I'd buy the rest of the Orient Doll line, and double up on everybody, so I have a white and a normal skin of each sculpt. Loves on the OD whole line. I actually own Tae, Il, Hong, and a little Vampire Ji. They don't match any of my other dolls, not the MSD, not the c.30cm tinies, certainly not the 60-70cm lot; kind of cute with my i-elf, who treats them as a climbing toy. I don't plan to sell my other dolls, mind you, but I very much like all the Orient Dolls. Ann in CT p.s. MARSH! Where are those fabulous boots from?? They look Great.
The boots are actually Dollheart from January. They fit very well, better than they fit any of my other minis, because they're cut quite slender in the leg. Also there's a strap wound around the sole right in front of the heel, for some reason the OD boys (and maybe Takira's Sharmin) are the only ones who can actually stand in these boots so they now 'belong' pretty much exclusively to them. Show us pics of your Hong!
Yay Tae! I have appallingly few pics of Turiel, all things considered, but here are a few: The shirt, btw, is a CH Little Junior one that fits him great; and no, his arm doesn't bend all that way on his own, I cut out my thumb pushing on his arm in that pic. -_-;; ...yes, he can be hot. ^_^ Mostly this was to show off his body blushing, which their white dolls really do need or they wash out badly in pictures. Tabris (Marsh's Il) is fine without, but Turiel would look like a ghost without it. OD Tae vs. Seredipity Sharmin. Turiel is wearing boots so they might be making him a little taller, but overall she still beats him out by just a little bit. The real difference is when they sit down. Most of Kitsune's height is in her torso and most of Turiel's is in his fabulously long legs. The shirt he's wearing happens to be a Volks WTG Boyfriend shirt that's a bit tight across the chest and the sleeves are a teeny bit short, but I loved the logo too much to pass it up. </picturespam>
Turiel's white skin, yes; I got him as an unpainted head/body and did the faceup and body blushing myself. I blushed his body with watercolor pencils by rubbing the tip of the pencil on a piece of rough paper until a powder built up, then dabbing a dry paintbrush in the powder and dusting it on his skin in the appropriate areas. I sealed the body with MSC both before and after blushing--didn't disassemble, just held it up by the elastic and sprayed roughly around the whole thing. MSC also takes off that shine the resin has; it's vaguely pearly, actually, and Tabris (Marsh's Il) has the same feel/look to it even with the different skintone. I don't have an NS Tae at hand, but here are a couple pics so you can compare the two skintones side by side: Personally, I really like that Marsh has one too and lives close enough to me for them to interact; they really do look a little odd next to regular MSD-scale dolls, so it's nice for them to have someone their own size to pick on. Good luck finding your Tae! edit: D'oh! I forgot about the wigs! They're about a 5-5.5" sized head, so it is difficult to find wigs for them. Turiel's wig there is a Charles Josef wig for Tyler Wentworth dolls. Monique also carries wigs of the appropriate size, but the Johnny style is about the only male style they have. Tabris' wig is a tibetan wool wig that's a little too big but it's fluffy enough you don't notice that it's been squashed down a bit. Fur wigs come with them and I've experimented making my own fur wigs with some success.
Latidoll yellow wigs are 5.8" and so might fit. They have lots of styles and colors, though normally whichever wig you want will be sold out. They do restock almost often enough, and the quality is pretty good.
You're singing my song. That has been my search/challenge/frustration for more than half a year. They have the faces and bodies that are more mature, but the size is just not proportioned to the MSD girls and if the Orientdoll Girls were made with a smaller bust or a more natural pose, I would love them. I really love how the the Tae's and Il's look, but honestly, the size of the head in comparison to even Narae Mini's is significant and didn't photograph well together as a couple. It's really not the height difference between Tae and MSD's at all, you can stick him in clunky boots and keep your MSD in flatter or no shoes, but the proportions, and primarily the size of the Tae head is substantially smaller than MSD's. It was almost like putting a Tonner guy with my Narae's. My suggestion at this point (because this is where my search ended) is Limho. He really came the closest to being both more mature and taller (he's really perfectly proportioned to a Narae, Limhwa or Supia mini). He's not a mini-Dollshe (wouldn't that be awesome) or mini-SD16 looking guy, but you can get him to look more mature than a Narin or Unoa. With that said, he still has a head that is much smaller than MNF, DoD's & Volks MSD's, but he really is perfect for girls that are smaller-headed like Unoa, Narae, Limhwa or Supia. Happy Hunting!
http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57499 Some of the pictures got taken down by photobucket because they showed *gasp* a penis, but there's hopefully still enough left to give you an idea of scale. The MNF body's bigger and Tae's head looks like it could fit inside a MNF head. -_-;;
Congrats on ordering your Tae! I love my Tae (special/normal skin). He looked so much like Hatori from Fruits Basket I just HAD to have him when I first saw him. He is now my very own Hatori. Because of his wonderful proportions, I think of him being taller/larger than he really is, and he interacts with my SD Shuichi all the time. I just don't 'see' him as being smaller, unless Chikara (who is a taller-than-typical msd) starts pestering him. Hatori grumps about his size when that happens. Regular MSD clothing is too large for the Tae so I have purchased Matt O'Neill clothes for Hatori. In general, the shirts and suit coats are a little too large but that usually works okay. Sometimes the pants are a tad bit too short and the cordoroy pants are way to large, but for the most part, everything fits well enough. I have considered taking him and the clothing to a tailor shop to see if they could do some alterations but I don't have the funds to throw at that project at the moment. Be sure to post a lot of photos and put his photo/stats in the OD database! Hurray! More Taes at DoA! It was MY Tae you saw! I loved your Mae - such a great attitude!
lovely photos! i cant wait to get my tae...i have his character and clothes all lined up now...i live in a house with souldolls, a MNF, and a leroi so i will take comparison shots. also will have a laidoll lily soon too...(rubs hands together) cant wait to get comparing. have read some of the photo stories involving some taes, there are some really funny ones!
Does anyone know if the boy heads fit on the girl's body? I want a companion for my Tae but I'm not wild about either of the girl heads. What I'd like to do is put a Special Il head on the girl body. Of course I love the outfit for the Special Il to so may end up getting the full set any way. Morgan
I have some Groovy Girl and some Friends 2B Made clothes that go onto Hong, but I wouldn't really say 'fit'. Both lines are similar to Teen Trends. The shirts are quite snug across her bosom, but much too big around her narrow ribcage and across her small back. Now, don't let me fool you--Fiora Luisa is wearing a Friends 2B Made long sleeved shirt and long pants (that need to be still longer; she is quite ready for a flood), and all the misfitting is hidden by my Volks SDC Kurenai's hoodie. She is encouraging me to sew, but I am sewing by hand much more than by machine, so I am taking a long time about it. Fiora Luisa must have 'Cavalier' and 'Age of Reason' styled clothing, she says. I'm working on the corsets. If you can sew, try enlarging BarbieTM patterns, which may have to be slightly adjusted for the large breast size of the Orient Doll first girl body. Ann in CT
Here she is, and she is STUNNING!!! She's wearing a Carmel Colored Wig from Denver Doll, and a tube dress made from a knit sock as she's rather "busty" and will take some hunting for clothes. Here we have Bridget and Jack, true love!!
The ladies at Denver Doll said that she fits in many of the Tonner Tyler items. They had her pictured wearing one of TYler's shirts and pants on their sale page of her. Hope this helps. She does look much better in your photos than the promo pics show. Congrats!!
Thanks! Here are the Nekkid pics my daughter shot, and as you can see, she preserved MOST of their modesty!
FINALLY- I've waited SO long to see pictures of one of the OD girls She does look so much nicer than on the OD website. Is that her default face-up? I bet Tonner shirts would fit her great- and Franklin Mint things. Thank you so so very much for posting pictures of her There is a database for things that fit Tae & Il here, maybe it would help you find things for Hong, too: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89540
Well, I did my part for Black Friday, and went to a Collectables Shop, Toni's in Danville, CA that has TONS of the Robert Tonner dolls and clothes, and bought Bridget two outfits. One is the green and white embroidered dress from the Wizard of Oz line, and the other was a Tonner black velvet and "fur" coat dress for winter. I can't wait to get them on her, and I will post pics!! Thanks for the tips!
Yes, that is the faceup she came with from Denver Doll, and while it WAS the beesting lips that drew me to her in the Korean pictures, I ADORE this face up. It's so sweet and innocent, a proper Irish lass!
She's absolutely beautiful! She has such an "alive" look to her~ A brand of clothing that hasn't been mentioned I like for my Serendipity girls is Clea Bella- the costumes are really adorable. I get most of my 16" slender clothing from The Doll Market, because they tend to have great discounts on Clea Bella, Alex, and Tyler clothes. ^_^ Alex is a bit slimmer through the hips than Tyler, as is Clea Bella, but I think Dae should be able to fit, as she's thinner than Serendipity girls by a few cm in circumference.
She's really pretty ^-^ I had a really slim mini girl (happydoll) and she fit some Barbie tops and dresses, so have you tried things that size? Would be cool if she fit them!
Oh my god she is so nice! Its so good to see pictures of OD dae girls and their boys together, I have requested on the picture thread for OD dae girls... Congratulations, she is gorgeous, has such a lovely body and pretty face, she looks amazing next to your Il too
Went to the company website and took a look at these guys. I'm not ususally a small doll person but the faces and the price got me interested. Any new owneres have opinions on the quality etc... of these dolls? How are the default face-ups if you ordered one? I'm thinking about Il in snow... I already searched and didn't find a good assesment, and of course "Tae" doesn't search because it's 3 letters -sigh-.
I strongly recomment an Orientdoll Il! Or a Tae. They're gorgeous boys. Though they're not really the proper scale to look 'right' with most minis, and their bodies have a few idiosyncrasies, their sculpts are wonderful and they have a TON of personality. Here are a couple of good threads: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86092 http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89540 Kim posted a picture of her Tae with an Unoa 2 and they looked great together. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101293 As an added bonus, OrientDoll ships ULTRA-fast. Within days, not weeks. If you're interested, here's a link to my Il's pictures: http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b333/universaldonor/tabris/
*raises hand* I've got a Tae! I dragged Marsh into it and made her get her gorgeous Il. I don't seem to have many pics of him uploaded, but here's what I've got--he's the baleful-looking white skintone fellow with the Prince Valiant wig (don't ask me, he's claimed it and won't entertain ideas of anything else) : http://s58.photobucket.com/albums/g243/justalittleuke/turiel/ Some of the pictures are comparison shots, of normal vs. white OD skintone, and OD vs. Serendipity size. They're definitely an odd sort of scale but I'm quite fond of my fellow and I LOVE sculpt (face and especially body). So far the closest in scale I've seen are the Unoa 2's, even if their boobs are bigger than the boys' heads. -_-;;
They list their sizes in centimeters, not in inches, which has confused me. The girl is 40cm tall, which they list in centimeters. Can she wear luts clothing or dollmore? Or even DoD? I thought she might be too small.
They are slightly slimmer than Mini Fee, but about the same height, so they can fit MNF clothes, but they will be a bit large on them. They can't really fit the shoes or wigs, though. You'll have to rely on OD clothes for that. Here is an in/cm converter. Or if you can figure it out like this: 12 ... . x ----- = --- 30.5 .. 40 (or other amount of cm you need to find)
Most tape measures have inches on one side and cm on the other. Makes it easy for those "on the fly" measurements when you spot something!
Doll fans kinda end up needing to know metric, since inches and stuff are a mainly US thing. Don't worry, metric is easy to learn cos it was created to be! One thing you could do is draw out lines of say, 45cm, 40cm and other doll heights to help you visualise the relative heights. (OD are much shorter aren't they!)
MSD teeshirts, tanks and undies fit the OD Dae size. The rest of the clothing options are much too large. I have purchased the Matt O'Neill clothing for my Tae, Hatori. There is a chance the Tyler clothing may fit the girl Dae-size but I am not for certain. Hopefully, someone here can give you more info on clothing for the girl.
Thanks so much for pics. I was wondering if Cheong and Hong woulf fit into the Tonner Wicked Witch-Wizard of Oz outfits? I want a BJD who can wear those clothes!
Bridget (Hong) owns two of the Tonner outfits, and they fit snug, but they do fit. She has the Emerald City dress, and a black velvet and fur one as well. The Stockings don't fit, they are too short, but other than that, the dresses look great!
Has anyone tried putting Orientdoll's Tae head on a taller body? I love the Tae facesculpt, but I don't like that he's shorter than pretty much all the girls in his size class. I was thinking of making a hybrid with an Angel Fantasy (aka Doll Dream) body, but after looking at a few comparison photos, I'm a bit worried that the proportions will be totally off. So I was wondering if anyone's tried making a taller Tae and what body combinations have (or haven't) worked.
Actually, his head is rather small, so I think an even taller body might not look great. Hard to say, though...
Sadly, I doubt switching heads would work... for this particular reason: Even next to a MiniFee, his head is tiny. x.x They are about the same height, though...
I just tried my Tonner Chase Model Kit outfit on Hong (a tight-fitting long-sleeve cable knit sweater, body suit, and skirt) and it fit almost perfectly. Hong's waist is in a slightly different spot than a Tonner doll, so that makes the skirt seem a little large around the waist. It took some work to get the sweater sleeves over her hands, but as long as you choose Tonner outfits that have some stretch in the sleeves (or short/no sleeves) they should fit, I would think. The body suit was actually loose, even with Hong's "endowments". I've tried on a couple of pairs of Tonner pants too, and they fit - they were just slightly short on her, but they worked. My Tonner Hogwarts Hermione outfit fit as well, except for the skirt that was too big - but I can easily safety pin that if needed. The sweater/shirt and robe to this set fit perfectly!
Finally we see what a year of waiting has brought us, and it looks good! http://www.leekeworld.us/ You can find the body on the leeke site but for some reason orientdoll its self has not updated with pictures.
Close enough! Check this out! Well as some of us have seen, their vampire ears strongly resemble elf ears so this should be awesome XD
http://www.monique.com sells a lot of wigs in size 4-5 (check out the BJD wigs) . . . and that's really the only place I can think of at the moment Don't be surprised if they tell you the wigs are out of stock after you order though- they've done that to me every time I've ordered something.
Hello! Right now Jack, (Il) is wearing a long silver/white wig that came with my Cherish Doll Chubby LE. I am not sure of the size, but if you look at the Cherish Doll site, see what sort of wig they sell for the Chubby. Chubby (Chibi Gerard) came with his black wig, and the long white one, which looked WEIRD on him, but really nice on both Hong, AND Jack. Here he is in the wig with a hat on.... And a flash shot without.
Does anybody know, if the boy heads Il and Tae fit on the girl bodies? I would love to have a Il vampire girl!!!!
I Finally received my Orient Doll (vampire IL) his name is Ichikune. For More pictures of Ichkune here is my thread. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1921139#post1921139
Hi there TQV - I have a Hong, and I just got regular doll wigs in 5-6 for her, like the ones from Monique. I think they work fine on her. I'm not sure about the ones from Leeke, but I think Hong's head is quite a bit smaller than other 40cm BJDs.
TAE's Size-Boy * Tall : 16inch (40cm) * Eye size : 6-8mm * Circumference of Head : 5.5inch (13.97cm) * Circumference of Neck : 2.6inch * Circumference of Chest : 6.8inch * Width of Shoulders : 3.5inch * Length of "From Shoulder to Elbow" : 2.2inch * Length of "From Elbow to Wrist" : 2.2inch * Length of "From Shoulder to Waist" : 3inch * Circumference of Waist : 5.4inch * Circumference of Hips : 6.5inch * Circumference of Wrist : 1.8inch * Length of "From Knee to Foot" : 5.1inch * Foot size : 2inch At first I thought maybe Unoa-2 (she has a small head and more fashion-doll proportioned body). Note - I have never seen them together. http://www.rakurakutei.com/theloft/dolly_bird_scans.htm But you can only get them (kit or completed) at resale (I see plenty on Yahoo Japan). And it seems she is taller than Tae so maybe not... Unoa 2.0 measurements: Height: 43cm Head: 14cm Bust: 17.5 to 18cm Waist: 11cm Hips: 17 to 17.5cm Neck: 6cm How about one of the Orientdoll same-size girls? http://www.theorientdoll.us/frontst...orientdoll&m_name=DAE%2DType&s_name=Basic There was also a Domuya Flexi-fashion but they may have been discontinued and they were 43cm tall (taller than Tae).
