Ordering from VOLKS Website as opposed to VOLKS USA

Nov 5, 2006

    1. I live very close to the VOLKS USA store, and I intend on buying a Dollfie Dream Kyoko. Simple enough. But Im not in a rush to have it.

Looking at the prices on the US website versus the Japanese website, I would end up paying $355 [plus shipping fees] by buying a DD from the Volks website as opposed to the $476 ($420 + 8.25% CA sales tax) Id end up spending at Volks USA.

Even if shipping from Japan to California were to be $50, Id still save myself about $76.

So now I ask this: Why do people buy basic dolls and expensive purchases from the VOLKS USA shop as opposed to the VOLKS website? Is there any reason I should buy a Dollfie Dream from the store, aside from the instant gratification factor?

    2. Well one thing about that is you usually don't get as good as an exchange rate as you expect to. And the shipping from Japan to California will likely be more then $50.. but you'd still probably save some money.

    3. Well, as of November 3rd, Yahoo Currency Exchange lists 42,000 Yen as converting to $355. So hopefully the exact realy cost will be very close to my estimate.

Would anyone know if I can calculate the costs and shipping charges on their website....without actually committing to the purchase? As in canceling the order before actually submitting it?

    4. I've purchased from the Volks Japan website four times, and it has always given me a final screen where I confirm and finally purchase. You can get the total cost including shipping without actually purchasing. I saved quite a bit of money purchasing dolls from Volks Japan instead of Volks USA, even including the shipping.

You do have to fill out the registration forms to get to the end of the purchasing procedure, however. You have to fill out an address, telephone, etc., but the total including shipping costs is given to you before you get to the credit card screen.

      Good luck!

    5. I spent the extra money ordering from Volks USA because it looked a lot easier to do. And the doll was already on American soil. So, I didn't have to worry so much about her getting tied up in red tape somewhere or battered beyond repair or lost.

    6. If I'm ever given the choice to buy a doll from VolksUSA or that same doll from Volks International, I will ALWAYS go with the international site!

      First off; I don't trust UPS for anything. -_-;

EMS is a lot faster than UPS is (in my experience, the last time I ordered shipped with UPS, they delayed my package for three days for no reason, and didn't deliver it to me the day it arrived - at 4 am - at our local UPS center. I ended up picking it up myself. They've also delayed packages that were shipped overnight).

Also, you'll generally save a lot of money buying from the International site versus the USA site. When I ordered my Kun (around the time the exchange rate was 112), she ended up costing me $552 including shipping. o.o I had expected to be charged around $600; and I believe the USA site is over $600 for SD10 dolls, right? Not including shipping..

Just my experience. ): As long as you're getting something big, like a doll, it's far more worth it to get it from the International site.

    7. VolksUSA tends to have smaller items like limited release clothing in stock, albeit a few weeks after the JP Dollpa, for a longer period of time. In the past, the After Party online sales were pretty much dependent on how quick on trigger you were.

    8. The problem now seems to be that fact that the Dollfie Dream Kyoko package seems to be out of stock at VOLKS International. It doesnt specifically say "out of stock" but when I click on the "To Order" button, I get redirected to a File Not Found page.

Im not in a rush to get the doll, but I would like to own Kyoko before the end of the year.

    9. Since you live close to Tenshi no Sumika, you can actually see the dolls before you get them. I bought my Emma there because I didn't want to deal with the waiting and the shipping. There might be complications during that process too!

Well I got to check out Emma from head to toe before I decided to get her. That way, there wouldn't be any suprises of defects or anything when you get her in the mail. If there were, you might have to ship her back and who knows what other complications there might be. I just wanted to get her through Volks USA since I'm really picky about defects and imperfections.

The Volks Japan website might save you money but it really depends on you.

    10. Like I said I do not mind waiting a few months. Ideally, Id like to have this doll before the new year. But with EMS then the wait should be very short, since Dollfie Dreams are premade dolls. Their faceups are standard and made in advance.

Since I live so close to Sumika, I have seen the DD Kyoko up close. Ive tried different eye types and sizes on heads, looked at wigs, and looked at clothes. I know what I want. Its just a matter of where I buy it from, since I can save so much. I dont believe there should be any glaring defects since the quality of Volks dolls should be superstandard.

The main problem now is the availability of Dollfie Dream Kyoko from VOLKS International. I would save much more from Volks International since I plan on buying a doll and other things.

    11. The Kyoko that you are looking at was a limited Dollfie Dream for a recent Dolpa, so she is more than likely sold out on the international site. The DDs are much more popular in Japan than they are over here.

    12. Thats what I was afraid of....would it be pointless to email them and ask, since I've heard that Volks International doesn't answer emails so quickly or so consistently.

If not then I may just buy the doll at Volks USA, although Id be disappointed in not being able to save over $50. Thats money for DD clothes and eyes and hair. :sweat

    13. I've always received very quick (within about 3 days), polite responses from the International site. ^_^ So, well, it's worth a shot. :3

    14. If she's not stocked on the international site then they aren't going to be able to help you if you email, the best they'd probably do is direct you to their US site.

    15. You dont seem to understand. You see, Im not sure if DD Kyoko is out of stock, since I only get redirected to a "File Not Found" webpage when I click on the Order button. I just assume she may be out of stock.

It would be a real help if someone confirmed that the redirected webpage means that she is out of stock. I will take other people's advice and just email Volks International. Its a better idea to make the effort of asking rather than assuming the worst.

    16. That error page is a way to say the page does not exist, meaning there is no way to order the doll. You get the same page when trying to order Nasya. The way the DD page is set up, you don't see the stock of the doll, you just see the image that was originally a link to the order form. If you look on the actual DD stock menu, none of the LEs are there anymore.

    17. I've always gotten the redirect page on Volks website, even when things are in stock; but I agree, the best way to know 'for sure' is to go to the listing page and see what they have. I was trying to get to that page, but I couldn't find it. :P

    18. I would save yourself the headache and just GO to Volks shop in Torrance. Its a small shop but totally worth the visit plus you know the doll you want is IN stock there right? And yes instant gratification is great .
Of course if you do not want to drive and spend the gas money just order it.
UPS has claims so that if you doll is damaged you will not be left in a lurch. I order from Volks site alot when I cant go there and I nothing has ever been damaged .
Also I know you said you "were not that much in a hurry" to get her but you want her.. well xmas season is fast approaching and I would not even want to take a chance of me missing out on a doll that I want because of a 50 dollar differeance or what ever it was. But that is just me and I am impatient .

    19. Occasionally limited items do come back in stock at the Volks Japan site, usually after a second local event when items that didn't sell in person get restocked. I saw SD13 Tony go in and out of stock several times! But usually once they're gone, they're gone, and they eventually get removed from the site.

    20. Volks international takes a while to re-stock. i waited a while for SD Nana to be restock and it took months. Volks usa do have them in stock and yes they cost more. But you get it when you want it. As appose to time:the store only open 2 days a week normally. So if you order a doll and have it ship EMS, it will get there before the weekend hit for you to drive down there. But all in all......You have to love all the display dolls they have for you to view at the store (only if you want to drive there)

I visit the store for small stuff like sunglasses, eyes, wings...but i ordered my Tony and Nana through the website. (Tony took only 1 day and NANA took 3 days since i ordered her on the weekend)

      x.

    21. It's highly unlikely that Volks will restock her as she's a LE model, Tony may have been restocked but most LEs are sold out forever.
