Previous chapter where we first met Duke...


Duke: Hey, Maxim, what's up?
Maxim: Oh, hello, Duke.
Duke: Mind if I come in?
Maxim: No, of course not. Have a seat.


Duke: Your models sit here, right?
Maxim: Sometimes.
Duke: Great! When do you wanna draw me? *poses*
Maxim: *chuckles* Any time, but you have to keep your clothes on.


Duke: *singsong* Okay, but all the girls will be disap-poin-ted.
Maxim: I thought you had a rehearsal this afternoon.
Duke: We're done already.
Maxim: All set for Friday?


Duke: Well, I am, but I don't know about everyone else.
Maxim: Oh?
Duke: Tyler and Sabra broke up. She's moving out.


Maxim: Ohh. Well, that's not good. She's not quitting, is she?
Duke: No, she wants to stay with the band. It's not so bad, really, they're being pretty civil about it.
Maxim: Tyler's always been level-headed.
Duke: Yeah, he's not letting it get to him too bad.
Maxim: Still... I'm sorry to hear it.


Duke: Sabra's not. In fact... *slyly* she was asking about you.
Maxim: Why would she be asking about me?
Duke: *exaggerates* Oh, I don't know, Maxim. Why does ANY girl ask about a guy? She's hot for your bod, I guess.
Maxim: *sighh*


Duke: Actually, that's partly why I'm here.
Maxim: Sabra?
Duke: Yes and no. She's not the only one asking about you.
Maxim: *to himself* Here we go again...
Duke: We want you to come back.
Maxim: "We"? You and Sabra weren't even IN the band the same time as I was.


Duke: That doesn't mean we don't want you to come back. We know how good you were. I mean, that you ARE.
Maxim: I haven't played in years, you know that.
Duke: You could practice up easily enough. It'd come back.
Maxim: I'm just not into it any more. I've moved on to other things.


Duke: Oh, come on, Maxim, it was your whole life!
Maxim: No, it wasn't. It was only part of my life. It didn't bring home a regular paycheck. I certainly couldn't support myself and Maura with it, unless we had lived over a garage.
Duke: I don't get it. You LOVED it, man.


Maxim: Yes, I did. But other things were more important. They still are.
Duke: Well... just think about it, okay? At least?
Maxim: Really, I can't.
Duke: C'mon. Just THINK about it.
Maxim: What did Tyler say?


Duke: He says he'd be happy to give lead guitar back to you. He says you're better than he'll ever be. And he wants to concentrate more on vocals and songwriting, anyway.
Maxim: *shakes his head* No, I can't. Why am I even considering it? I'm too busy.
Duke: *offhandedly* Okay, whatever. I'm just letting you know everyone else was talking about it. Anyway, I'm outta here.
Maxim: All right.
Duke: You still coming out on Friday, to hear us?

 

Maxim: Wouldn't miss it. I'll see you all then.
Duke: Good. Oh, hey... one more thing.
Maxim: Hmmm...?
Duke: *apprehensive* I, uh... I wanted to ask you something.
Maxim: Well?
Duke: I, uh... is it okay if I go out with Maura?
Maxim: *pauses* What?


Duke: I want to go out with Maura. But only if it's okay with you.
Maxim: Duke... you don't have to ask my permission for that.
Duke: I know, I know, but... still, it felt weird to go out with her without telling you, at least.


Maxim: Don't be ridiculous. Of course you can.
Duke: Great! Well, we'll see you Friday. Later!
Maxim: *distracted* Bye...


Maxim: ...

Aww, thanks, Sheri! *hug* Poor Maxim is well and truly hooked. I don't think Duke is intentionally cruel to him, but Maura... well, there's no telling with her!

Thank you, @elve! Maxim is so lucky he got this beautiful backdrop for his house and studio! And Hong and Yuu are two of my favorite Dollzone boys. I will miss Dollzone's original style of sculpts.
