Theme older bjd

Nov 20, 2020

    1. I am looking for pictures of older bjd's.
Not grandpa/grandma but more in the age range of 40s-60s.
      Specifically boy molds.
I tried doa and google but no luck so any help would be appreciated:pout:

    2. I think a lot of how old a character looks has to do with the face up and any mods you make. you could probably pick out a softer-cheeked realistic face sculpt (one that reflects lost definition more than baby fat lol), carve some wrinkling where you want it, and do a faceup with a few wrinkle and age spot details.

    4. @lucifer_roux on Instagram (@vauhtikatti on here, I hope she's okay with me sharing her art! I just think she's talented, and she has an example of what you're looking for) has a few face-up tutorials on her Instagram. One of her characters is a middle-aged woman (Jane) and, looking at the close up photos of Jane's faceup, you might get the beginning of a sense for how painted laugh lines and eye wrinkles should look.

Jane is the top photo in this post :).

    6. Thank you! I have also made visible forehead wrinkles on one of my dolls, Theodore here, and I love them on him. Jane actually has a very faint scar on her cheek, but laugh lines can be made very similarly. I use a very thin brush with purple and brown pastel to draw the lines, add a bit of brown watercolour pencil for depths for the wrinkles (red pencil for scars though) and draw a line with white pencil along the wrinkle or scar for highlighting the area. I might not be the best teacher, but any questions about my faceups or tips, I am very happy to chat on Insta!

Malcolm here was supposed to be in his 50s. The sculpt was an Ian Somerhalder Minimee head I don't think I own anymore. I painted him with contours to emphasize the shapes of his face and fine wrinkle lines where they ought to be.

    8. I have a bunch that are supposed to be older ish (late 30s early-mid 40s) - not a lot of pictures (or at least good pictures) though, sorry.

The one in front especially was sculpted with more hollows than most BJDs, he even has mouth lines (you can't see because i covered it up with facial hair XD ). It's easy to age a sculpt already meant to be a little more mature, like most of Granado. I feel like Ringdoll K can go either way, older or younger...mine's kinda middle-road. They have another sculpt that's similar to K that I can't remember the name of that also looks older.

    9. There are a couple existing male molds that already have that 30-60s feel to them out there. Impldoll Nicolas always gave off these grizzled, older rocker vibes to me. Impl also has a couple other male sculpts that look older (to me anyways) as well—Garza is another one that comes to mind.
I swear he reminds me of a younger version of the singer from the Rolling Stones:

DragonShell Doll on Etsy (DSdoll on IG) also has several male sculpts that can veer on the older side. I have her Snake sculpt who I plan to shell into an older 50sish years old male mentor character of a couple of my younger OCs (still very much a WIP, so sadly no photos to share). There are also minime heads inspired by older actors (Benedict Cumberbach comes to mind) on Etsy as well that can veer older blank.

I will also chime in and state that many existing younger looking sculpts can be aged up with the right faceup work. Texture, crease/wrinkle lines, deeper color tones to enhance the aged/weathered look, etc can really add years to an otherwise youthful blank face. Of course, in my honest opinion—it does seem to work better for the boyish sculpts that are meant to be either in their later teens or early twenties over those very boyish, preteen or younger sculpts. Mature males and females lack the baby fat that young kids have, and youthful sculpt meant to be preteens would need some facial mods to get the right shape to make them look older.

    11. OMG! All those dolls here are so gorgeous :aheartbea I'll surely be keeping an eye on this thread!

I also have one. An Illusion Spirit Tosaca. He is supposed to be in his early 40's if he was a normal 'human being'. He is an approximated 200 year old giant (which is equal to a 40 - 50 years old human in my story).

I love older looking sculpts! Somehow I'm not so into the SD baby faces. They have their charm, and I love watching them. But when it comes to owning an SD, I tend to go for the more mature faces (ladies too).

    12. My "older guy" is Nemissary, a Granado V-07... With him, the age is as much the sculpt as it is the faceup.

He's got nothing on Merlin, though. (Merlin is my Dream High Nolan. XD)

      ETA: This is Merlin...

    13. I will, in the next few months, being doing a faceup for a doll whose character is supposed to be 55. I'll try and document as much of that as I can.

    14. Maybe also check out Demiurge Dolls. I just recently purchased their Eagle-Sculpt to portray the current Pedro Pascal/Din Djarin:

      Demiurge Dolls

If you look at his blank head pictures, he shows no wrinkles. But I know this can be achieved with the faceup. The sculpt is excellent, it has enough structure to pull off that 30-50 years look required here.

Maybe you find other heads on the site can do the same.

    15. Did you ever finish your Pedro doll? I’m a huge fan but can’t find a sculpt that looks like him
