Wearables Old witch - a refresh for my Baba Yaga - back together on 04/26/2025

Apr 13, 2025

    1. Hello everyone!

There is a doll that I love but took seldomly care of. It's my Dione by Othersidedolls (@Zun here) . I got her in 2013, and she still had the same faceup 12 years later. She also had only one outfit for 5 years, and I sewed only two outfits for her since 2019 (the first was made by a seamstress in 2014).
I wanted to sew her a new outfit for this spring, but while I was handling her, I thought that her faceup was really too old now. So I wiped her faceup without a second thought, and without thinking to take a picture of her face before! Silly me, a before/after would had been nice.

Here is a picture of her previous look:

She is wearing the second outfit I sewed for her (last year if I remember well).

And here is the new faceup in progress:

I don't know if I will keep it more or less natural or if I will painted something more sophisticated. I'm hesitating.

      Thank you for looking!

    2. I think Baba Yaga (if you're sticking to the folk tales) ought to look a tad bit eerie so maybe you could steer in that direction?
Either way she looks great so far! I'd love to see more interactions between her and the other fantasy characters you have. Maybe someone will stumble into her bird-legged hut by accident or take the risk to ask for a favor?

    3. I can't wait to see this new version of make-up!

    4. Yesss I love your Baba Yaga, I can't wait to see her new face! I like that her wrinkles are highlighted but not emphasized - it gives her a natural, aged look without it coming across as her being frail. And given that she's said to be quite mischievous at times, the subtle smile could turn into a puckish little grin if you paint her eyebrows a certain way.

Whatever you decide to go with, I'm sure she'll turn out just as gorgeous as all your dolls do. I'm constantly in awe of your talent and creativity :abow:

    8. I'm so torn between keeping her good smile and gentle look, and trying to make her look less kind...
I never shown her with an other of my BJD, but I once took pictures of her with friends' dolls, and it was great to see her with a SD. Her head is bigger than most SD and she is quite thick, so she looks good near SD dolls, even she is small (37cm).

      Thank you Demonslawa!

Thank you very much! Haha, oops, I was wondering if I needed to emphasize more her wrinkles... I will see, depending of how her faceup will turn.

      Thank you Starling!

Thank you very much! I love her, a not so small granny doll is so rare, and she looks so sweet. I feel like she is an ode to great age.

Thank you! I don't know how she will end up yet. Facial paint or no facial paint? Facial tattoos or no facial tattoos? I don't know
In a way, I already have so many characters with facial paint or facial tattoos that keeping my Baga Yaga with a natural look would be more original.

Edit : I forgot I wanted to show the begining of her new outfit (with her previous faceup still in place)

    9. Continuing her faceup!

I'm keeping her natural for the moment, but I'm still hesitating on facial tattoos/paint on the forehead...

      Thank you for looking!

    10. WOAH those eyebrows are fantastic! I'm stunned by how detailed they are, and I love the color variations! They look so realistic.

    11. Thank you @solarmiracle ! I'm glad I upgraded my skill in brows painting. It was my weak point for a long time. :)

      Some news of the outfit:

It lacks beads and accessories. I will add that later.

      Thank you for looking!

Finally I choose to paint a tattoo on the side of her head/neck! It will be mostly hidden in her wig, but I don't mind.

    13. And outfit is completed! Now she needs her head, and a refresh of her wig (a new coiffure).

    15. Thank you very much @solarmiracle !

Now she is all back together, and I will keep her like this until I have a new idea for an outfit, or if I suddenly want to refresh her body blush and tattoos (I don't have the will yet).
