Size Comparison Old school 60-65cm with 70+cm "Uncle" dolls

Oct 17, 2025

    1. I've done my best to do due diligence, even checked meet photos and only found two photos of this type, so I think it's okay to ask; but please edit or delete if this doesn't meet the requirements.

I'm interested in newer 70cm+ guys (specifically Telesthesia/other similarly stylized Chinese brands, if helpful), but my collection is older 60~65cm Volks dolls. I'm less worried about the overall height and buffness difference than size of head/features, which is harder to visualize or simulate.

Hoping someone has Volks/other similar dolls and a big boy in their collection and could share some photos.

If this helps the two on the left are a Dollzone 70 with a Recall head and a Volks MDD with what I believe to be a Sister Ange head meant for a bigger doll. The other SD is an Obitsu 60 with an option head with a bigger wig size than the 70.

    3. My uncle-sized dolls are 68cm tall (though they get to 70-71cm in heeled feet and shoes), so I don't have actually 70+cm dolls. But I have both old-school big heads and more modern realistic heads, so maybe these pics can help.

L - Dollstown Mui on 15year boy (old version). Body is around 61cm tall but his poofy hair and shoes gets him up to 63-64cm tall. 9-10" wig size, 16/8mm eyes.
R - Joydoll Lai on 2DDoll 68cm girl. (Lai was designed as a 65-70cm male head.) She's about 70cm tall in shoes and heeled feet. 8-9" wig size, 14/6mm eyes.

L - Kanadoll Mars on Doll Family-H 65cm boy. He's a more realistic head sculpt and I think he can go on a 68-70cm body. 8-9" wig size, 14/6mm eyes.
      M - Dollstown Mui.
R - Crobidoll Lance on Dollstown 15yr girl (around 61cm tall). 9-10" wig size, 16/8mm eyes.
Bonus - Dream Valley Achelous, tall 1/4 (51cm). 6-7" wig size, 14/5mm eyes.

L to R: Kanadoll Mars (65cm), Joydoll Lai (68cm), Crobidoll Lance girl (61cm), Vings Seira (68cm). This is their barefoot height. All except Lance wear 8-9" wigs and 14/6mm eyes.

L - Illusion Garden Johan on DF-H 65cm boy (he borrowed my other boy's body for this pic). 8-9" wig size, 14/6mm eyes. Johan was designed for 68-73cm male bodies.
R - Volks SD-F-26 on SD13girl (usually 58cm, now closer to 60cm in these high heels). 9-10" wig size, 18/9mm eyes.

L - Illusion Garden Johan when I briefly had him on a 62cm boy body (Spiritdoll Grace 65 - it's not actually 65cm tall as advertised).
R - Vings Seira on Vings68v.2 body. He's about 70-71cm tall in those shoes.
Both boys wear 8-9" wig size and 14mm eyes (6mm iris in Johan, 5mm iris in Seira).

My friend's Soom Idealian (ID75 R.Shoshon) with my Lance and Mui. R.Shoshon wears 14mm eyes and I think his wig size is 8-9".

      Hope this helps!

    4. These are definitely helpful, thank you! (Plus as a bonus, I get dolly pics out of it, hahah.)

@DollyKim I haven't seen an Obitsu 60 in ages! That Recall head is very cute, too.

@aihre Lance! I used to have one, I've been missing him lately. Mars is a very handsome boy, too, definitely the kind of realistic-trending head I was considering. The ID75 is extra helpful, too, it looks more workable than I expected; even though I think the scale difference with the smaller head as well is a little more noticeable, so it may depend on the sculpt... (He is gorgeous, also.)

    5. You can't really escape the scale difference between old-school and realistic - I think eye size, face size (some dolls have bigger faces than others even if their head circumferences are the same), and facial proportions (whether the facial features are organized in a more stylized or realistic way) contribute the most to the mismatch. But you can ignore it and get used to it.

Personally, I want siblings and romantic couples to be in-scale with each other, but otherwise, I don't mind that half my crew is out of scale with the other half. Exposure therapy works! I've schooled myself to "unsee" scaling issues and not nitpick at it; nowadays I seldom notice it. The two boys Mars and Mui are best friends - I put Mui further away from the camera than Mars, and take pics of them together, scaling mismatch be hanged :whee:

I don't own any 75s, but after my friend visited and I got to see their ID75s with my dolls, I can imagine having a 75 in my crew and he won't look too out of place. He's just a very large person next to them. It does help that I have 68s who "bridge the gap" with my smaller 1/3s - the height jump up to 75cm won't be so stark. It can work!

      From 58cm to 75cm (plus a bonus tall 1/4) -

    6. @Ayaka I forgot to add - something else that makes a big difference with scaling, is head-to-shoulder-width proportion. Volks and other old-school dolls have big head/narrow shoulder proportions. The modern 70+cm BJDs from China trend the opposite: small head/wide shoulder proportions. You might be observing that in my photo of the ID75 - R.Shoshon has a broad-shouldered look while my dolls have a narrow-shouldered look, which accentuates their scaling mismatch.

"Dorito" shaped bodies -- wide shoulders, broad chests, snatched waist, and slim hips -- are trending quite hot in Chinese-made 70-75cm male bodies right now. That's something to consider when you're looking at those dolls. I personally don't like the "dorito" look so I've deliberately bought dolls and bodies that have slim shoulders, I think it helps my crew look more harmonious.

    7. Yes, that is a really good point I've been trying to confirm in body photos, so as not to accentuate the stylistic/size difference so much. I'm going to have to attempt doing some kind of visual math to determine the "Dorito degree" for the dolls I like, hah. I can have a little Dorito, as a treat...
