Oh no! Sharpie on Dollfie Dream (sorry about the size)

Feb 21, 2005

    1. I come home from work, and what do I find?

My little brother has had a virtual filed day with my poor Jeanne, and a sharpie! I've managed to get some of it out..but I'm afraid she's done for...

      Here's the pics:

    2. Ohno! ;_;

What are you trying to get it off with? If nailpolish remover doesn't work, people've said great things about Clearsil, the acne stuff? And then maybe the rest can sand off?

    3. OH NO! :o

Do you have a picture? I'm no expert on dollfie as Zoi is, but if you have a piccie of how bad she is people can help you save her more efficiently? I'm so sorry this happened! ><

    4. HIT HIM.

But seriously, oh my god ;_; I'm so sorry. Try using one of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, they've worked really well for me on the little areas that needed tending to.

    5. I wouldn't just hit him... :| I'd demand all his money too.

    6. Yeah... and whoever was supposed to be watching him. -_-;;;

    7. Edit~~~ Don't wanna have that on here for some reason. T_T

    8. oh, a dollfie dream, right? i saw pics in the gallery, am i right that she's a dollfie dream? If she's made out of vinyl you could try using some Oxy10, rubbing it on the sharpie marks, and leaving her in a sunlight area for about a week. You could also try a product called "oops!" but i'd be careful with that. Another thing i've used is acetone (i've also used that on my resin Unoa). With the Oops and the Acetone you have to be really careful to wash it off once you're done trying to remove the stain though. Though, keep in mind these are things i've used to clean My Little Ponies with, they should work on a Dollfie Dream but if i'm mistaken and it's a resin dollfie you have, i wouldn't try them.

    9. This works for removing sharpie pen marks off the walls, so I presume it should work for you too ^^
spray hairspray on the mark then wipe it clean with a dry cloth

    10. could you.. take some picture of the poor girl??? I'd like to see how awful it is... I mean.. when knowing the extend of the damage it's easier to give advise

    11. The problem with vinyl is dye transfer - it is absorbed into the vinyl. I doesn't just sit on the surface like for example on a wall. I have however removed signifcant marker marks from My Little Ponies simply by leaving the affected area exposed to direct sunlight for a few days. It might be the best thing to try first, as it should not have long term affects as per some of the chemical methods that sometimes cause trouble down the tracks.

Oh, and accidently tread on your brother's favorite toy.

Ken (who used to share a room with a little bother ... um.. brother).

    12. OMG if that had been me my brother would seriously not be alive anymore... I'm still pissed at him for chewing my first Barbie that I bought with "My Money"'s shoe (he liked to chew things) when I was 9...

I seriously hope you can get it out! And please, at least take some pictures and demand he pay for it down the road sometime... :| :| :|

    13. *hug* :( good luck :( please let us know how she ends up :(

    14. That's awful. :( If you happen to have Volks makeup remover try that. If not, use acetone in the meantime and maybe try to order some Volks makeup remover (it works really well). If the sharpie got absorbed into the resin you might have to sand her.

    15. Yep she's a DD.

I'm sitting her out in the sun and see how that works before throwing chemicals at her. I had a few Mr. Clean Erasers that I used to to get off as much of it as I could, and it helped a bit. I'll have to head out to the store later and get some Clearsil/Oxy 10.

My mom offered me some vinyl cleaners that she uses for some of her clothes, I haven't tried them out yet, though.

And if nothing works, she'll help me get a new doll.

    16. Did he color on her face? OMG... my mother would have strung me up if I had ever destroyed one of my sister's toys like that. OMG. I'm so sorry!! :(

    17. He got her chin and forhead..I'm not too concerned with her forehead. All her wigs cover that very nicely. As for her chin...ugh. Luckily I still have the default eyehole closed head. But I'll most likely shell out for a new head altogether.

    18. OMGOSH! I would have been blinded by fury. Who was supposed to be watching him?! WTF? Don't people know how much these dolls cost, even the vinyl ones?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

If you need a new head, I have one. I'll try to clean it up as good as possible. Just let me know.

Oh gosh, I hope you're able to get it all cleaned up. Ugh...

    19. well, at least dollfie dreams heads arn't too expensive. But wow, if my little sister had done something like that i would have hurt her. And my mom would have paied for it to get fixed or made my sister pay out of her allowance. (happened once when she broke one of my star wars figs. )I just hope your girl is okay!

      ~Erin

    20. I managed to lighten the marks a fair bit on her shoulders..but the lines along her spine and center chest are being difficult. Here's hoping the sun offers a bit of help until I get a hold of some Oxy 10 (or Clearasil).

I've more or less given up on her head, and I'll just see what's floating around the web; considering getting one with a face-up already done.

Once I uncover my USB cable for my cameras, I'll post damage pics.

    21. I keep coming back to read this post, like watching an accident or something... this is so awful... omg I would be so upset and hurt by this. OMG. I'm so sorry. I hope it comes out, it probably won't though... eep. Aack.

    22. No..this looks to be pretty much unsalvagable...

I can't be too negative about this, I still have until the end of the week to see if anything changes. If not, I'll have to hold off on my Shiwoo, and use the money to get Jeanne a new body. I may even go resin with her.

    23. OMG! Poor Jeanne ;____;

I'm lucky in that I've never had a younger brother . . . and my sister's too old (and ignores the doll) for me to have to worry about such things.

*will have to watch her younger cousins if they're around her doll, though*

I hope you can get the sharpie out :( Or that you're able to replace her without any major problems. *hugs Jeanne through the computer*

And Yukio says to tell Jeanne to "get well soon" (and he sends his love).

    24. Someone said something about hairspray. I think that may be a solution. I once painted some dollfies with acrylic paint and Pantone markers (don't ask ...), but it came off when I sprayed hair spray on them, and they should be of similar material as the DD, as fas as I know.

But I'm no expert, so if there are less harsh solutions, it may be better. I dodn't know if the material could be damaged by the hair spray. - In any case, if you're about to give up, you might as well try it.

I hope it works out for you!

    25. The hairspray got rid of the lighter marks, but the big ones I'm hoping the sun can do something with...

Added pics as well to 1st post.

    26. You know I had 5 children and if I put a price on all the stuff the ruined it would be more than a years wage, I bet you brother is sorry I think he just wanted to be like his sister and make over a Dlofie, I bet he really looks up to you in admiration, dolls can be replaced but brothers can not, you only get one of those like him. I would give him a kiss and a hug and say I wish you would have not done this but I still love you. If your DD is ruined I wolud be happy to give her a good home if you would take paypal. But I save things like that to look back and remember look what my crazy kid did. Life is so short enjoy it while you can, moments pass and you can't get them back. I'm sorry I can go on and on sometimes. Wish you and your brother the BEST!!

    27. I bought some amazing cleaners from Twin Pines, it is intended for vintage dolls clothes & vinyl action figures, so will work on our dols, I'm never without it just in case of these sorts of mishaps, also old vintage dolls clothes wash out like new in this stuff still retaining their color & crispness.

    28. Perhaps your doll needs to be a different color--I understand, but have not checked out myself, that car upholstery places often carry Vinyl Dyes (description, not brand name), with which you could change your whole doll's coloring.

If your doll remains blue, anyway, she may as well go All Blue.

    29. Oopsie.

    30. That just brought to mind Zev's EQ Dark Elf project...

Well, hadn't even thought of that.

    31. Oops, I guess it was connecting to the data base afterall.

      Sorry.

    32. That just brought to mind Zev's EQ Dark Elf project...

Well, hadn't even thought of that.

    33. I have no intention of holding this against my brother. He's young and is bound to do silly things. Sure, it sucks considering how much I cherised her, but I'll survive just fine.

Though it pains me, I just may have to give her up. Turns out my damaged car won't be getting scrapped by my insurance company, and I'm stuck paying off the repairs, thanks to a gross oversight from my father thinking he could tow it by it's grill...

    34. Kiskalla,

are you familiar with a line of products from a company called Twin Pines? They specialize in vinyl/plastic doll restoration and cleaning. They have some stuff called Remove-Zit and a cleanser called Formula 9-1-1. I have never used these, but I have heard folk in the vinyl doll community raving about Twin Pines. You would just want to test in a small area first to see how the vinyl reacts.

      Might be worth a try!

      Here's the link:

      Good luck with this!

    35. Doh!

Well you could continue cherishing her faults and all, or you could tatto her around the pen marks if all else fails.

      Ken

    36. Argh...

that "GJ" person up there was me. Sorry.

    37. Once I scrounge up some quick cash, I'll buy some and see what comes of it. ^_^

    38. ohhhaawww... I confess I sorta giggled when I saw the rather neatly colored blue nipples.

Bummer. I agree with everybody who said not to be too hard on him but at the same time, kids can understand and be taught to respect another person's property and what he did wasn't nice.

Maybe an all-blue DD would be cool. A big sexy pixie.

    39. Perhaps they were caused by dye-transfer from an outfit?

      Ken

    40. Yea..those were from a dress that wasn't thouroughly washed. I'm not at all worried over those. They're oddly cute. (*cough*Or at least Yuki and Nagi thought so*cough*)

Heh. Kisk here. Ijust highjacked my friends name. Too lazy to log her out.

    41. I thought they were cute too and sorta went "well he did a good job on THOSE at least..."

Sigh... bummer about your doll. Sigh.

    42. I know this isn't helping any, but ....
When I first saw your photos, I thought, "Oh, poor thing." and then I thought, "They look like crime scene photos."

Now once again I'm thinking, "Oh, poor thing"! :(

Even if you can't get all the marks off, maybe you can take some other people's suggestions of painting her blue all over. Give her blue or white hair and sell her on eBay as an artsy creation if you can bear to part with her.
      Good luck.

    43. Aww, that sucks! Makes me glad I'm an only child. But, I'll bet that you'd still rather have a brother than not! Anyway, I have a painted DD open eyed head that's sans sharpie marks. I'd be willing to trade for your default head, and maybe your markered one if you can't bear to look at her anymore. PM me if you're interested!
