Waaah, I want to get a Claudette soon but right now I'm starting small but curvy with a Kiwi by Kaykedolls. I can't wait for the Claudettes on the way (@chalyss, @elve ) I want to be inspired. I also second the need for larger male dolls! I'd absolutely swap my boy's head onto a plumper body if they had them.
Yes! I got an old Unidoll body because to be he seemed rounded and softer than usual, especially in the legs. I super want a girl doll with an extra 10 pounds on her and a tummy.... not quite the Claudette style, more pooch than wide. But all in good time I suspect! As it is, they told me my Claudette is cast so now I am waiting for shipping!
well I'v'e sold my sweet girl now, at a great loss due to the broken hand - needed the money though as I'm moving house soon. Her buyer (ebay) 'generously' offered to pay postage on the new hands when I get them. Hmmmm.... those hands 'cost' me about £150 in effect Would have loved to keep her but where I'm going there's no room for more than my 2 fave girls (avatar and anime bjd). She is a lovely lovely doll though - very well made, and adorable - just woefully packaged! That really needs to be improved big time, ASAP - it's quite shockingly bad for such a valuable, unique doll - why skimp on the packaging like that?
WOW!! Oh so sad! I will talk to Miro about better packaging because I completely agree! I can't imagine losing my collection to space issues.... that would be soooo hard!
thanks chalyss I really hope your girl gets better packaging than mine did! And I'm going to have to find space to squeeze my 'little' impldoll idol/akagi ban girl in, since nobody wanted to buy her for like.... peanuts - which I'm glad about really as I am quite fond of the huge awkward unposeable badly-painted chipped mismatched-resin gal LOL - But I'm moving to a TINY room in student halls of residence - at the age of 55 pity my teenage flatmates! Will be different that's for sure AND VERY NOISY - I can't wait! And having got my reading list today I don't think I'll have time to sew dolls clothes ever again ugh I really miss my beautiful Claudette though - you are going to LOVE your girl when you get her And then having sold mine for next to nothing to pay for my halls deposit, I find out my current landlord owes me £700 and I could have kept her! Could always buy another one I guess no no no!!! *self control is a virtue* ....... or is that 'no self control is a virtue' ?
Mine came in yesterday! She was just in a plastic bag between 2 thin foam pads. Surprisingly, nothing broke! I did talk to Miro ab out it and they said she's so big, they don't have packaging big enough for her. I suggested more (any) bubble wrap. She came in the wrong color but it's a pretty color, so I'm OK with it. Sanding wasn't too bad and she's gone from my wild savage ell'fh to my wild savage something else with snake eyes and horns. *L* But her name is Solai, that much I know. Your Akagi Ban girl is iconic to you! I'm rather glad she didn't sell either, she has such a sweet face! I couldn't go back to being in a smaller space- well, I clarify: I couldn't with all my dolls, but I do need to thin the herd. Some just don't mean much to me so they should be rehomed. I would KICK myself if I sold a doll to pay for something and I didn't even have to!! ARG!! BUT sounds like you don't have the room anyway, so maybe all for the best? Still- ARG!! Congrats on going back to school!! That's awesome! What will you study? OK, Solai! I am undecided about her eye color:
and I've just remembered this thread - so sorry @chalyss guess what I got in the mail yesterday? Yes my Claudette's replacement hands! Again surprising they got here unbroken - like you say chalyss, just some bubble-wrap would help matters! Not rocket-science is it really.... foam sheets are just not good enough So glad you got your girl safely home - she looks wonderful in that colour, even if it was the wrong one! love to see some more pics of her now!
*LOL* I am so sorry they got there so late! Oh, that sucks! I am very happy with her color now! She's a really great cast! And she needs some TLC- not much has changed but her wig got some work: And with her pale, curvy friend! full figured beauties 3
oooh I'd never heard of that other brand of curvy lady! I think they both look good but your comments on flickr about the resin quality are interesting - I was also impressed by the quality of my Claudette - just not at all impressed by the packaging! And now I've managed to book this same room in halls for next September, it is so tempting to order another bjd ha ha must resist! maybe just a small one....
well now my wardrobe is stuffed with big dolls and more on the way, I am so regretting selling my Claudette! any new owner pics to tempt me/torture me with? And has anyone had a recent delivery of her with slightly better padding? *here's hoping*
Awwww... that sucks! I am considering a Paulette but that'd be awhile yet. I wish you could get one again! She sure is fun and makes me smile! I think she's mostly discussed on the FB pages rather than here now. I should take more pics!
If you were interested in getting Claudette, Paulette, or Nicolette, now is the time to do it. The artist just posted what amounts to a "last call" on the Claudette Facebook group.
Back from the brink, Claudette now has her own sales page! While she is cast by Miro, she is not a Miro doll. CoA and pattern set comes from Arwen herself. Artist BJD, Ball jointed doll: Claudette, the curvaceous doll [Claudette] - $575.00 : Miro Doll Shop
@chalyss I got so excited to see that Arwen has a casting partnership! Though I don't know if I'll be getting a full Claudette or just the body...decisions, decisions
Hopefully reviving this thread with a quick question, does anyone know if the body is sold separately anywhere? Also, if anyone wants to share more pictures I’d love to see them!
The problem with buying the body separately is that the neck is huge and no other head (without some serious modification) will fit on it. You might be able to modify the neck, but it might look weird. This is why the body isn't offered separately. But you can always ask for it.
Yes... the neck is 13cm, I believe. HUGE. I did a pic for a friend... this head is 10.5cm, I believe (but took a 7/8 wig): Lots of shaving the neck down might give you a neat body for other heads!
Shaving down the neck might loose you head mobility; she won't be moving up or down anymore. (side-to-side movement would still be possible.) When I designed her, I had a long talk with myself about the neck size; because of the troubles of going non-standard. In the end considerations of proportions won; a full curvaceous body with the slender neck of a super model just doesn't look right.
I don't have plans to shave the neck- this was just a pic for a friend who was considering the mod. However, I've done quite a few mods now for head mobility, most issues can be fixed with hot glue (um... not for THIS. This would require a lot more than hot glue and THIS much reduction would be a PAIN) and it'd be a challenge worth trying, but as I said, not now. Although looking at this, I do have this monstrous head... it's a minimee of Summer Glau and it is truly HUGE... EID is still too small a body for her and I've had to add muscular male Miro arms to her to balance the noggin, but still not enough- she needs shoulder padding. Anyway, i may see how she'd work on this upper body. The neck hole is too small, only a 9 or 10cm, so that'd need to be fixed, but the torso MIGHT be doable. I dunno, the head is a beast and needs a bigger body, plus I wanted her to have a body less sleek than what she'll end up having. In such a case, it may be worth it to me to mod a neck. Regardless, she'd still be a Frankenstein hybrid no matter what, just to get a body that works. I'm really committed to making it all pan out rather than getting rid of the head and I really want a bigger body for her. I'll take a pic and show it. I mean, if I can achieve something that amazing with the Claudette body, if I can bring this girl to life with a bit of a neck mod, why not? Granado vindolls are all side to side action; I can handle that for my Summer. I just want the look to be right. I don't want a classic, run-of-the-mill beauty for her, I want something unique. And quite frankly, the Summer heads needs a thick neck. You'll see what i mean. Not sure why I didn't think of this before...
My massive Summer Glau head on the Claudette body. I'd have to hybrid it somehow to make it work for the height I need, but I do so LOVE this sculpting! Just jumping in here to say I ordered a Paulette about a month ago, her CoA and patterns arrived today, so I hope it won't be too much longer til she gets here! But, if it is a longer wait, at least I have plenty of patterns to keep me busy sewing for her so she can have a full wardrobe when she does arrive! She's going to be my teenage goth girl, Harriet.
She's going to be so pretty! I want to buy eyes for her, but I'm not sure what size I'll like best in her yet. Can the Rubenesque body wear standard SD shoes? girl shoes or boy shoes? She needs a cool pair of goth boots!
Yes. She has small feets, she can wear normal shoes though thigh-highs wouldn't work for obvious reasons. Can't wait to see your girl! Eyes... I think 16mm. Mine are cabachons so not exactly regular eyes. 18mm might work too.
Thanks! I'll start shopping for shoes then since I just want some ankle boots, but hold off on eyes. I have eyes in every size from 8-18mm, just not the color I want, so I'll try a few in her before I buy, see what I like best!
huge congrats @CloakedSchemer I will look forward to seeing another sculpt on this luscious body! meanwhile what am I doing even looking at this thread? wishful thinking is all... Brexit has weakened the £ exchange rate sooooo much it's totally out of my reach now - Plus I'm about to start my 3rd year at Uni can you believe? I can't LOL - when I get a brilliant job after graduating, I'd love another Claudette And after all I said about not having room for her in halls - this bedroom is like a Tardis - and I seem to have 4 more big BJD now than when I moved here 2yrs ago - how in the world did that happen?
Apparently the artist behind these beauties is seriously considering selling an MSD version again! That't exciting for me, since I love the sculpting but generally prefer medium-sized dolls.
Just curious—about how long was the wait for everyone’s dolls? The Etsy listing said 4-6 weeks, I’m currently almost at week 9. I sent Arwen a message a little over a week ago to ask for updates, but didn’t receive any reply. I know dolls commonly take longer than estimated, I’m just getting nervous since there is no other doll out there who could work for this character. I was hoping some of you might be able to calm my nerves on this? Thanks!
I’m replying to myself here, but thought it might be helpful if anyone else has the same experience. I was worrying needlessly. I got a reply and Arwen said the mold had become damaged so they had to make a new one to cast my girl, and she should be shipping in a week or two!! I’m so excited!
Congrats, I can't wait to see what you do with your girl! I got mine through the kickstarter and I only just now figured out what I want to do with her. And her name keeps changing.
Mine is pretty set in stone, as I’ve had her character written for awhile, even before I decided on sculpt. Her name is Harriet, she’s my cynical teenage goth girl. She’s the younger sister of my Luts Abadon boy, Stan. I got her a Monique Ally wig in Electra color, which is brown/black with orange chunks. She’ll have light blue eyes, dark makeup and wear a lot of black and purple clothing, mostly goth dresses, skirts and corsets, plus she needs a ton of jewelry! Her style will be somewhat inspired by young Kelly Osbourne. What is your girl like? Which head sculpt is she? Do you have photos to share? What names are you considering? I’m excited your girl is coming together, sometimes they do take their sweet time in finding themselves!
I can't wait to see her come together, she sounds really cool! I finally figured her out yesterday, her name is Madelyn and she's going to be in more jfash and cute fashion in general. She's a full Claudette.
EEk!! I fell off the thread HARD. 2 or 3 weeks, Cloaked? I am so excited to see her! I am actually considering getting in on the MSD size, a Paulette. I have a race of smaller-stature people and she might work well.
I'm hoping to start painting her this weekend and ordering her wig and eyes hopefully today so I will post pics then.
Hopefully so! It’s currently been almost 10 weeks since I ordered her, I’m getting impatient! I know that’s really not very long to wait for a doll, but it’s double the expected wait time and I just want her so bad! MSD Paulette would be really cute. I’m glad I got the SD version to fit with my SD crew, but there are so many cute MSD dolls she’d look great with!
I know in general, 11 weeks is pretty short, it just feels like forever when the listed wait was 4-6 weeks on the sales page. The longest I’ve ever waited was 6 months for Doll Chateau, but I have a friend who waited 13 months on Dollshe. I couldn’t do it! With wait times like that, I’d have to buy secondhand or choose a different sculpt. I do not have the patience to wait longer for a doll to be made than a human!
Yall will get them soon! The waiting game is the worst. My girl just got her eyes, likely going to order a wig for her today, and start painting her on Friday.
It is the worst! I’m mostly just really anxious because the last time I ordered an artist doll, they ended up telling me the mold was damaged so there wouldn’t be any more made of that sculpt, then refunded me. So I’m so anxious that something will happen and I won’t get Paulette, especially since her mold was also damaged and had to be remade, even though Arwen has already assured me that will not happen. Illogical, but doesn’t stop my brain from telling me to panic! I’ve already made a couple of outfits for her, including cutting my prom dress to pieces to make a replica of it for her, so I’ve already got so much invested in her! Yay for eyes and a faceup!!
I can't wait to see what you do with her when you get her! I'm so glad for you that you're still able to get her. I will post pics when I'm done painting her.
I've had Miro tell me they need to remake a mold too... it means a couple of extra weeks of wait, and that's all. Since Miro is handling the mold making and casting and such, in this case mold damage is not to traumatic. Thank goodness! Hope she comes home sooOOoooon!! I still need to paint mine. Lazy mama!
@WrathChu She looks amazing!! Gorgeous girl! @chalyss Well, it’s going to be at least 6-8 weeks longer than estimated, and that’s if she ships this week. Maybe my moody goth girl is waiting to ship on Halloween, sounds like something she’d do! In the meantime, I almost have her dress made from my prom dress complete! I just need to hem it. Would anyone be so kind as to give me a measurement from her waist to her feet? The listing didn’t give that one and it’s all I need to finish this!
I get 33cm from waist to top of the feet and 34cm for a slightly longer look. She'll be fashionably late!
Thanks yall! She was so much fun to paint, and just looking for clothes for her right now. I hope they ship soon! I want to see your beautiful girls.
My girl got new outfit! Now I need a face up.... finally! And she is soooo photogenic! Solai reminds me of a gorgeous Buddha here! Solai's new threads by Walid.
@chalyss She looks amazing! That outfit is perfect for her. Good to see her again, she’s what gave me that final push to save up for my girl!
Thank you, @CloakedSchemer!!! I am over the moon with the whole package! She still needs new eyes... I did buy sme gorgeous turquoise-aqua-gold cabachons for her ages ago, but I ordered them much too small. This outfit was the color path I wanted for her from the start. I really can't wait to see how your girl chooses to represent herself! Cuz ya know, we end up with very little say in the matter in the end.
@chalyss Ohhh, turquoise-aqua-gold sounds so pretty! Can you order a new set but larger? They'd be so perfect with that outfit! I am so in love with your girl. When she gets a faceup, will it be gold/turquoise too? I think she'd look gorgeous with some gold eyeliner or lipstick. Harriet is already a written in stone character that I've been roleplaying since May, so I'm pretty sure she will turn out to plan, or at least in general, she'll be my cynical teenage goth girl. Though already I've had to buy a second wig for her, she's not even home or even shipped yet, and already telling me that first wig is just SO not her! (But the Dollshe Amanda Beauty I have on the way is a wig hoarder, so she'll probably take it...) I'm undecided on eyes yet for Harriet, she needs blue but I'm not sure if I want to go pale or medium, or if I should go more teal blue or grey blue. Also unsure of size, so I plan to try several pairs I already have in her to get an idea of what size and color to buy--or maybe I'll get lucky and already have a pair that works. but I can't possibly get that lucky with this pain-in-the-butt girl, can I?
Harriet has shipped! By the time I got the tracking number, she’s already in the next city over, waiting to be transferred from FedEx to USPS to go to my PO Box. I’m expecting her tomorrow or Monday (but I work both days, so photos may be delayed.) so excited!!
She's home! I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow or Monday. Life is really busy right now. I really like her. She's everything I needed her to be, definitely bigger than my other girls, but styled in a way that she can still fit in. She arrived with very weak string in her arms and so floppy I couldn't do anything with her, but after sueding and restringing, she's much better and poses well. I think I was told she wears 16-18mm eyes, but I have 14mm Soom silicone in her and they fit really well. Her head/headcap is very shallow and her ears are set back fairly far on her head, so she has trouble with wigs not sitting on her head very well. I'm going to see if a wig cap might help with the issue, or if maybe I could add some hot glue or something to her headcap to hold it better. My biggest complaint is that the packaging for shipping was horrendous. She doesn't have a doll box, and she was just kind of tossed in the shipping box with no bubble wrap, no pillow/sleeping bag and just a little bit of thin foam lining on her head, hands, and feet and like 1 or 2 small sheets loose in the box, not nearly enough. Luckily, she had no damage. My other complaint is that the sanding/finishing isn't very good. Most of the doll is smoothly sanded with no problems, but the finer details weren't done very well. This is an issue with casting, not the sculpt/artist. Her eyes were cut unevenly and left jagged, like they weren't sanded at all and her right eye was bigger/sloped lower than the left, and her toes had chunks of resin between them that weren't sanded/removed. I've sanded those issues out myself and it wasn't really a big deal, just kind of surprising that such an expensive doll arrived somewhat unfinished. But overall, I'm very happy with her and she's perfect for Harriet's character! She looks pretty much exactly like I pictured the character in my head. My only regret is that I didn't buy her sooner!
