Odd Auction, possible stolen El?(edit: Auction is legitimate)

Aug 17, 2011

    1. http://cgi.ebay.com/LUTS-DOLL-DELF-EL-BJD-/260836527020?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbb118bac

I saw this auction where the seller claims to not know anything about the dolls, and received the El as a gift. It seems odd to me to give a $500 doll to someone who doesn't know about them... It may or may not be bad news, but I figured I'd post this here to increase visibility in case someone actually did have their dolly taken.

If everything is on the up and up, I suppose the worst I've done is promote this person's auction.

    2. They are selling a few dolls. It could be that someone has moved overseas or passed away and they were given to them?

It seems odd to me that the dolls could be stolen and still have their official boxes/carriers o__o; i think this sale seems pretty genuine...

    3. These are all beautiful and expensive dolls. If they were stolen, it should make for an easy bust for the authorities!

    4. I think it should also be noted that this person is selling other BJDs from other companies, with the same message of "I was given this doll/I know nothing about them."

      Interesting...

EDIT: I see this was already noted, as I was typing my..noting of it...:sweatWell, I note it again!

    5. There are currently two original Dollshe's up FA on ebay and the seller saysthey don't know anything about them, they were gifts too.Remember not everyone who buys/owns dolls are active in the hobby andare members of forums...that's honestly where we realize the aftermarketvalue of these dolls and their rarity etc.edit: my bad, it's the same seller! And WHAT is up with the forum today? All my posts are wonky and I cannot use smilies!!

    6. Agreeing with this! I think it's likely they've passed away because otherwise I don't know why someone would give away $1000's worth of dolls...

And I know if I was going to steal some dolls, I wouldn't be taking the time to get all their boxes, either. xD

    7. Someone passing away -- that's possible. Or some other massive change in circumstances. Families or friends may not know what to do with BJDs, or even care to try, and might just approach someone in the general doll business.

    8. I hope that it wasn't due to someone passing away :( I find it kind of interesting that this seller knows the relative value for a minimum bid, however. (Unless the past owner left instructions...)

    9. They (or someone else) has at least some idea of what it is - as the prices are rather high for someone who 'doesn't know anything' about the hobby. So I think they know more than they let on, but play dumb so buyers can't complain if there's a problem with the doll *Cue dialogue*
Buyer: "It has staining! You said it was in good condition!"
Seller: "I didn't know about that. I don't know anything about dolls. I think it's in good condition, so I won't refund you for damage."

    10. THIS!

I agree with Adhara, I think the person is just covering themselves for possible future complaints.

    11. I don't know about the DZ doll, but the prices aren't high for the Delfs. $395 is a decent price for an older El, especially if you want modded elf ears. But $395 for the Moon looks like someone did a bit of research, aka the Luts site, but didn't check enough. The box may be a plain Moon box, but that's the Redemtion the Moon wig and outfit, and so the starting price is about $300 less than the site price listed.

They also might know enough -- or know someone -- to price the Dollshe Husky higher than the Bernard, but from the prices things have gone for in the marketplace here, the Bernard is pretty on the cheaper side too.

    12. I agree. Someone who may not be particularly involved in any hobby can acquire items they don't know much about through unusual means. It seems like the seller has done some preliminary research, and judging by the quoted 'I was told he has souldoll eyes even though the box says delf boy body' leads me to believe the seller likely knows someone in the hobby to get at least preliminary information from.

All the prices are fairly good, however, so I think the seller was trying to be fair -- she is selling used items, perhaps saw the doll in retail for more, etc.

If someone is worried that the dolls are stolen, there is a thread somewhere on the forum where information regarding stolen dolls has been placed for reference, like a 'Missing Persons' database. :)

    13. I heard of at least one person who passed away recently... so it's entirely possible that a family member is selling these and only knows a little bit about the dolls.

But yeah, if they were stolen it seems odd they'd have their correct boxes.

    14. For what it's worth, when I pass I would leave suggested procedures for sale, along with an estimated value. I wouldn't want my dolls to be sold for pennies on the dollar, considering the sellers would be friends and family.

    15. I asked her about it and she says this:

      Hello!
Sure thing, I recently received these dolls from a relative that passed and have no clue about them and don't collect dolls so figured I might as well try and sell them. I was suprised by how popular they are. I don't know anything about them really at all besides what I have read on the manufacturers site, and two ebay members that saw my first doll and have been kind enough to help me identify the dolls and give me some details to add to my postings. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

I let her know about the limited set to help her along. She seems like an alright person. :3

    16. So there's the truth of the matter. This isn't the first time I've heard of a collector dying, and it's unfortunate, certainly.

It's too bad she fell under suspicion, as well.

    17. Yeah, poor thing. But she came into a rather unexpected windfall, that's for sure. Though it won't make up for the loss of a loved one, just imagine how the dollies might be helping with a financial burden. They're like little life insurance policies. O_O

Of course, it's always best to have a plan, too.

    18. >__< i hate being right...

I hope the dolls help her out C:

    19. I'm happy that the dolls will help. I'm happy that the exposure from this thread was able to help out the seller a bit.

    20. She messaged needing help with these three. Does anyone recognize these dolls?

Hey there! Was wondering if you could help me identify the small dolls I have. Two appear to be dollmore and one is definitely a dollzone, just can't figure the exact model out. They're about 17-18 inches. Thanks!

I uploaded the pictures to my server though I kept the original names.
