I was wondering if anyone had any object head doll! Monster high/ever after high/bjd dolls ect! If so how was the project? Or are you still working on it? I'd love to see pictures! I dont see alot of them an that kinda inspires me to be one of few that might make an object head doll. I don't know my plan yet but I'll get to it when I get to it.
I bought a TV head from a BJD accessory maker on Taobao called Forest Doll! It's intended for SD but I like it as an oversized mini head. He's on an amooooore BJD body that was designed for Disney Animator dolls, but in the past I've also had him on a Gem of Doll big baby body. His face is just pieces of paper behind a clear resin screen... I wish I could figure out how to put a real working screen in there. I designed a whole bunch of expressions for him so it would be fun to be able to flip through them. Spoiler There was also someone on instagram that had a doll with a teapot for a head... it was so cute, I wish I could remember who had it. (EDIT: Found it!)
@softnecromancy Thanks, I'm so glad I managed to find this head! There's a smaller version too @Kyle_Tatore That's a good idea! I feel like you would almost have to make the head from scratch for it to fit right, though. That's where I ran into the most trouble researching screens for this guy before I gave up
I love the idea of somehow making a tv head! I might also just buy fake fruit or toy animal skull an mod it to fit. Only because I know the crafting would be a little easier. The ending result would be so cute owo
I'm thinking of using an obitsu 1/6 body but I don't know where to find them. I don't know if I should trust amozon.
I have used Hobby Search for most jp fashion doll items, including the newer obitsu 1/6 bodies. The problem with Amazon may not just be legitimacy, they often over-inflate the prices too, so check the prices here first: 1/6 Obitsu Body Parts (21-27cm) Products List - HobbySearch Fashion Doll Store (Shipping may end up evening out the price difference though, it was about 2500 yen to ship one body to Australia by DHL in late 2020) edit: I’m following this thread because I also love the idea of object head dolls, and I really love that TV head posted above!
I’m not really sure what you mean, this is the international web store. Your bank or PayPal will convert the currency automatically when you pay. The only potential drawback is the current cost of shipping due to the pandemic. I had a look on Amazon and it seems they don’t have the newer bodies there anyway, only the old ones. If you wanted the old one that’s fine, but the newer bodies have a much nicer bodyline and are similarly priced. (the newer ones are the first results in the link I showed you) If you want to buy where you are more comfortable than then feel free to, I just wanted you to be informed because there are a lot of dishonest sellers on Amazon and Ebay, while Hobbysearch sells at the RRP (and sometimes less.) I am not sure if bootlegs of the old 1/6 (20cm range) bodies exist, but I know they do of the 1/12 (11cm) range so I would be wary regardless.
I'll keep that in mind! Should I try my luck on etsy? Im still setting up my paypal its sadly been 2 years since I've had it an its still not fully set up ;-;
I know I posted this as a topic for object heads but I just had a random idea to do a hybrid with a calico critters doll. Their heads look removable. An Im a sucker for animal heads on human bodies. I have too many ideas ( ._.)
I've worked up some concept art. The design is still in it's early stages but I like the idea of an orange with one singular eye. Sorta inspired by that one omega mart comercial with the lemon.
@0bsequi0us I wanna try inset! I'm betting on it not being too hard since I'll hopefully be carving into cheap foam oranges. So I won't have to worry about messing up a few times to get it right.
I just ordered a Numy from AnhaisStudio's etsy. I wasn't expecting to want a small doll for this project. I got her in peachy. I hope to pick up some faux oranges maybe tomorrow or whenever me an my partner have free time again. Edit: probably should wait till after I get my Numy so I have a better scale to compare owo
@Kyle_Tatore: ooh, I love cyclops dolls and the idea of object dolls sounds really fun too, so I'm very curious to see what you're going to make of your little orange girl. Do pumpkin/jack-o-lantern headed dolls count as object heads? Because I have a lot of those^^. I love the little TV head at the top of this thread too, btw^^.
@ShuriTigerH yeah I believe they do owo I love jack'o'lantern head characters! I love halloween. I'd love to see pictures of them if you happen to wanna share!
my beautiful Numy doll from AnhaisStudio's came the other day! I'm excited to get started on my object head project. Currently I can't because work will have me busy. But boy am I happy
I love object head dolls! I've been following the VERY adorable MSD cat TV headed BJD MeekoBJD who was just handed over from Dallfacee to Moonlight_Jewel_Dolls and I'm very excited to see where she goes now! I've also recently found Furby_O_Rama who has both a tiny TV head (Tilly) and a tamagotchi-type head (Tama) doll in the works!
Omg, I didn't know Moonlight Jewel had an insta account! I also didn't know she was given an object head to custom until now!
Yeah! I love her youtube customizations and was so shocked when she took over MeekoBJD's production. It makes me so excited to see what's coming for Meeko and what amazing things Moonlight Jewel will do with the design.
I know I've talked about making a lemon head bjd. I've also bought the fake fruit for it. But I'm most likely ganna do a mushroom. I got air dry clay for it im so ready. Im just scared I'll ruin this lovely little Numy doll they were very expensive! I should practice on a cheaper doll...
@Kyle_Tatore best of luck! This one's not mine, but I randomly came across this one on Google and have to share, I think she qualifies^^ https://www.reddit.com/r/BJD/comments/fm0cx7/a_few_years_ago_i_dreamed_that_i_owned_an_eyeball/
WOW! Shes beautiful! Reminds me of an eyeball object head that a certain creater on instagram made. shes sadly a creater I can't name (or link to I don't think) because of controversy. But I admire her art.
Ok, ok, ok! For the actual head since I don't want it to be blank I'll be doing a mushroom head! But, I have a tamagotchi that stopped working on me because the batteries low so I'd love to mess around with that. Yes I did get this lovely idea from some inspiring artists profiles linked in this thread! I already had the tamagotchi laying around an I wouldn't have thought to use it untill I saw Furby_O_Rama's little Tama's! Wish me luck! I really wanna post pictures so I'll try to figure that out!
I have an OT object head I made out of junk parts! Her body is a moderately damaged first generation Pullip body, with similar proportions to the 27cm obitsu lines (and their neck holes are the same size, I found out from my research, so I'm actually waiting on a vinyl Pixy (elf 27cm Gretel) head to see if I like her as a non-object head. Originally I was gonna build up layers of cardstock and foam using a blind box as a base to make her a flatscreen TV head, and use a TCG card sleeve to make her "screen" customizable, but I got sort of used to seeing her with her Rilakkuma box head in the meantime and now it's a little hard to picture her without it! Her name is Cye, because she's made from recycled parts, lol! I imagine her as a little cyberfuture character, an android cobbled together out of landfill parts or something! She's got a lot of posability! I do need to reinforce her neck hole again, she's getting loose and losing some of her "head" range. I like her size, not only does it fit Pullip clothes but also Barbie! I'd be happy to post some pics if you wanna see her!
@SaltedPretzel no problem! Cye (gen 1 pullip body object head) by Jules B, on Flickr Very low-tech, lol, your layman's object head doll for sure, but she's got a lot of personality! She's wearing offbrand Barbie clothes here, a Ken doll watch (I think? It was in with my 11cm tiny stuff so who knows lmfao) and mystery shoes from one of Mint On Card's closing sale lucky bags (RIP), which I suspect were probably meant to fit either 27cm Obitsu bodies or Blythes; I don't have either in the household so I'm not sure. Spoiler: More pics & details Cye (gen 1 pullip body object head) by Jules B, on Flickr As you can see, her neck hole is just a hole I carefully (well, more or less ) traced and cut out, then reinforced with mod podge to keep the edges from tearing, and to keep the rigidity of her "face" so I don't get creases or folds along the front. It also helps give her some grip, which is what gives her boxhead some posability! Prior to it wearing out a little (guess I played with her too much and it wore down the mod podge, lol) she could cock her head to one side, lean it a little forward, and lean it a little backward as well! It would also stay put partway up her neck without needing any padding or reinforcement, which was nice, now it slides pretty far down. The Gen1 Pullip neck does lean forward a fair amount, so the extra friction was pretty necessary to make sure she wasn't constantly looking slightly downward. I'm hoping it's nothing a fresh layer can't fix, but if not, she's still cute! Cye (gen 1 pullip body object head) by Jules B, on Flickr Her most noticeable damage is her thighs, where they're starting to come apart from age and wear. Her body is VERY old, it's from the second Pullip ever released ("Street" from July 2003), so it's surprising that it isn't more extensive! Her forearms are also a bit loose, fairly wiggly, but they pose fine if you're willing to be patient with them. She's got an underbust torso joint, and her hands are removable with little peg inserts like Monster High hands, but getting them back in is a struggle so I'm always careful to be gentle with them so her forearms don't start splitting down the mold lines like her thighs. Her visible screws don't bother me, I think it's pretty charming feature for an object head! I'd never done anything like this little project before, and I kind of just went for it, but she's been a lot of fun! She lives on my desk, and even when I don't have any BJDs out she's there to keep me company and just look cheerful. I think if I were to actually follow through on my flatscreen TV head idea, I'd want to find a box that was just slightly shorter? Or another lil SanX standee blind box like this to experiment on without worrying about trashing (no pun intended, lmfao) this one.
Aaw! This is cool! I like how creative that is. I recently got started with trying to carve into the plastic of the tamagotchi. I alreaady gutted its insides. I actually got small hole that I need to make bigger. I had to grab the S hook through where the screen is suppose to be. I'm ganna edited this if I can show a pic. Edit: Sadly I guess it won't show imagur pics on here so I'll link it instead here
@Kyle_Tatore thanks! Don't forget to wear a KN95 mask (or respirator if you have one) as you carve the plastic out, you don't want to breathe in anything! If you're having trouble with photos, there's a very simple tutorial here: /tutorials/how-to-post-photos-to-doa-from-flickr.77/ for using Flickr as a host and posting photos to DoA, just a quick upload of everything you want and then a copy and paste of the BBCode for each pic! That's what I did for those pics of Cye.
Thanks! I figured how to link it though but I'll definitely take a look! I'll make sure to stay safe when carving ouo
Wow, she's awesome! I see why you'd hesitate on finishing her head, she looks so cute with it as is~ I love the look of the retro body too, screws and all! I love this idea! I have such a soft spot for "old" or nostalgic tech Good luck!
oh, I forgot to update this! I'm widening the hole to the tamagotchi so it'll fit better. I need to glue the front screen permanently. Off that note I need help finding clothing for them. I'm assuming Barbie clothes might work. But I haven't tested it yet.
I'm tempted to do a Max Headroom in a TV head on a sort of cyborg body now. I have a pair of those tiny Chucks too, they fit many non ball joint 1/6 dolls and can help them balance to free stand. For 1/6 scale shoes check out the Real Littles shoes, they fit many 1/6 scale fashion doll size feet.
guess whos moving!! Well im not moving out from my bfs moms, we are moving to a bigger house! We'll have a way bigger room without a crappy paint job that his sister did when she was in highschool. Anyway, nothing new to the project except I've given up using plastic lemons an will use air dry clay instead. The tamagotchi head is basically the same as I already said, I just need to make the neck hole bigger so it fits better.
I have an Asleep Eidelon slim 1/6 body that I've been wanting to turn into a lil object head. Absolutely love her body and want to keep it, but not many companies sell lone heads/necks this small. Figured I'd one day be out and about and find a random object to make into her head but she's just kinda been sitting headless on my tiny shelf for a while now cause I keep forgetting. One idea I had was to actually sculpt her a head but I dont think I can on such a small scale. And her original head I got bored one day months ago so half way modded it into a cyclops, but again I've been lazy about finishing that too. I really need to make a plan for this girl. Hopefully seeing others object heads can be the kick in the pants I need. Updoot; inspiration struck. Got to thinking why do I have to decide on only one head object? So far I'm up to 3 objects in various stages of being usable heads.
I have a speaker head girl, though I haven't unpacked her since I last moved! I'd like to get more object heads -- I find them very charming. It's just kind of a fun concept.
https://www.mydollection.com/product-page/wugan-zctv-1-6-1-4-only-head I just saw this on Dollection and had to share^^. Hmm, this tv head on a Dollzone 1/6 or 1/4 Strayer/Halo body with that electric plug tail (or the 1/4 DZ Cyborg Ji-Zero body or something), I'm usually not really into robot/cyborg/whatever style dolls although I like the look, but that sounds cute
Forgive the double post, but I just ordered both TV heads, I fell in love with my own idea^^;;. Will be making one MSD and one Yo-SD size TV girl.
oh i have one of these! this is Calpico! the head is a vintage barbie tv and the body is a dearmine dearpet! i want to find or sculpt them a proper tv head with cat ears eventually
@Urushi-kitty : Calpico is a cutie! I keep (casually) looking for suitably sized miniature radios to use for object heads, but I can't find any to my liking, nor do I have any idea how to attach them to a body^^;;. I received the DZ Strayer that will be my Yo-size TV girl earlier this week, I hope her TV head won't take too long to be finished and shipped. What I hear about Mydollection and their shipping practices is making me a bit nervous>.>.
jeez, its been...too long. How is everyone? Over a year ago I started this project+ got out of a nasty relationship. So...progress has reversed. Ive given up on the tomagachi object head idea. I'll be starting over from the beginning. I was thinking I could sculpt somthing. Ive also taken a look at my Numy doll and relised they're very naked. And I feel really bad about it. Though I dont love the head an its the reason I want to make an object head, its still a cute sculpt made with love and I guess I wont be getting rid of it like I thought I would.
Hey I just saw this thread- I wanted to show my pictures of my friends sculpt nina! I love being able to see all the different head ideas you guys came up with also, super cool ideas!
