Obitsu 50cm Body Doll

I know Haruka heads fit on this body wonderfully, and Haruka wears a size 8 wig. I think she has 16mm eyes.

 

I just got my obitsu 60 cm, ( with Gretel head) tonight!! My first doll. She is wonderful. Order from Junky spot, you'll get her so fast!! They are wonderful to deal with. She came with a default head.

 

Parabox http://www.parabox.jp/eng/ has a lot of info on obitsu dolls. They have some tutorials on how to put eyes in, and are pretty clear on what size eyes and wigs go with the different heads. They are also pretty good at answering questions on their forum.

Hope this is helpful! The 50cm obitsus are really great dolls. They pose excellently, have magnet feet, are nice and sturdy, and have a nice skin texture, too.

 

I think the reason it's not a "BJD" is because of how it's held together. What makes a BJD isn't just the ball-joints, or else those little anime figures would be on-topic. It's the fact that they are resin pieces strung with elastic and articulated with ball-joints. See this thread for details on what is an on-topic doll to discuss here. This doll is "grandfathered in," so it's not off-topic, but it's a good list as to what is considered a BJD.

I have one or two (or eight) of them so I have a little experience with the stock 50cm and its variants.

Meh. It sort of depends on how exactly you wish to define "Ball Joint Doll". If you wish to refer to them as BJDs few people will object.

Most of these questions are relative to the head you are using. I believe the default head (shown in your picture) takes a 7-8 wig and 16 or 18mm eyes. The default head has molded in pockets that will hold most eyes, no putty required.

As pointed out by frankt and Tira-chan, Parabox is an excellent reference for Obitsu information, parts, etc.

The big improvement in the 50cm over the older 60cm is the elbow and knee joints, which use a design similar in principle to the 60cm's double friction joints. The 50cm nearly matches the 60cm friction joints in range of motion, but retains the better aesthetics of the ball style joints.

Another thing to note is that the Obitsu 50cm is slimmer that the Obitsu 60cm and a lot of clothing made for MSDs will fit the 50cm. The 50cm is taller than most MSDs so sleeves and pant legs will be too short, but that doesn't matter for a lot of fashions.

 

Excellent choice. Of all the bodies, resin and vinyl, the 50 cm Obitsu is my favorite. It's beautiful and amazingly posable. I also have one or two or three.....
Also, you can put smaller SD heads on them- I have my ShinyDoll Nanae on a 50 cm body and it is a perfect fit:

Did you get the head off of the neck piece yet?

Use your trusty hair dryer to warm the head up on the inside with the head cap off and pull the neck piece out, up or down (which ever way works for you).

 

Yep, use that hair dryer. It's amazing how the vinyl softens up when warm, then hardens again when cool. We want pictures? Are you using the default head or did you get another one?

Soooooo cute!!! The original head is nice in its own right. You might want to consider keeping it.

You just heat it up and then kind of gently rock it off. It will come back into shape after it cools. Vinyl has memory.

Seriously though...I like that head. Yeah it looks a little alien now but it's designed to be an Anime kind of head.

And to NevarStar: all modern Obitsu heads have eye pockets. However, there is one drawback to eye pockets: you will need eye putty if the eyes are slightly smaller than the eye pocket. There is real variation in "16mm" eyes...the Souldoll Bling 16mm eye is too big by far than the eye pockets in a modern Gretel, and the Ersa Flora 16mm is a wee bit small for a 16mm eye, so you need to add a little putty.

That video only addresses the older style neck piece. The 50cm (and most new large Obitsus) use the new style neck piece. You can find some information on the new neck piece here:

@ Knives : i fall in love with the 65cm body, and Gretel head with elf ears. Ah! so obitsu holds most eye size without eye putty.. i did have this fear.. since my smaller obitsu have gotten it before. Diff eye size and the eyes go bobbing up and down inside >< and that got me abit worried.

 

If the eyes are too small for the eye pockets, a little bit of putty will do the trick. The problem is when the "16mm" eyes you bought are too BIG for the eye pockets. No fix for that other than cutting the eye pockets out and using putty to hold them in. Or going with another pair, which I wound up doing with my Obitsu "new Gretel" girl Mitzi.

 

It only seems hard, mostly because it is very different from the older neck piece. But realistically, how often do you take off a doll's head? The new neck piece provides a very secure attachment and interferes less with eyes during extreme head moves.

but i realise 65cm have limited body movement.. her legs can only be bended to a 90 degree angle.. same for her hands. @_@

Gretel head eyes are harder to put in.. so i used a hairdryer and made it softer..

im sorry to make this old thread go up again :/, i was wondering if any resin head can be attached to the 50 cm obitsu body also, the wich resin skin color match the obitsu body ( natural one ) if anyone knows, or have don this before it would be awesome!!

 

The short answer is yes. Just about head can fit the 50cm body.

Some things to take into consideration when deciding on your combo are skin color (as you pointed out), relative scale of the head, and size of the "neck socket" (the indentation at the base of the head where the neck attaches).

I don't have any resin dolls and there are way too many different brands and colors to compile a list of what does or doesn't match. Your best bet is to find the head you like and then ask in one of the Obitsu thread if anyone has that doll and which of the company's resin colors might match Obitsu white skin. I do have a number of Dollfie Dreams and can say that Volks DD2 normal is a very good match for Obitsu White skin.

Next the scale of the head should work with the scale of the body. The 50cm is on the small end of the 1/3 scale so some of the larger 1/3 scale heads might give a bobblehead appearance, which is fine if that's what you are after. For a more natural appearance look for heads in the 7-8" circumference range. You can go a little larger or a little smaller as your tastes may vary.

The size of the neck socket is another important consideration. While not a big aesthetic issue, it can be a mechanical one. Find out what the neck circumference is of the doll the new head normally goes with. The Obitsu 50cm's neck circumference is about 7cm. For the new head to seat on the 50cm body nicely you probably want to look for a neck size the same or a little larger. If the neck size is smaller than that of the Obitsu, you might have to enlarge the neck socket on the new head to accommodate the Obitsu's larger neck. Likewise if it is too big, steps may have to be taken to prevent floppiness. This neck circumference issue does not take into consideration the shape of the top of the doll's neck. Some dolls have relatively flat neck tops while others are more rounded. So that seemingly large, but rounded neck may still fit all right. The Obitsu neck top is relatively flat.

Googled around trying to find the wig size for an Obitsu 50cm or vmf50, and found this topic. I did see in the beginning that size 8 wig can fit. I'm not too familiar with wig sizes since the one I have now has rooted hair, but in the future I'd like to know what sizes of wig can be worn for this. Thank you!

 

This page from Parabox lists the relative wig sizes for most vinyl (Obitsu/Parabox) heads. The VMF50 heads are very close in size to the stock Obitsu 50cm as are the two Visuadoll girls.

Arr! Thanks for pointing that out K-2! I saw that page and missed the description for Obitsu 50cm. So looks like 7inch wig will work for sure. Thank you. I also saw a bunch of wigs at Hobby Search for Obitsu 60cm, but none for 50cm... I wonder if the head size is similar not. They have nice style and colours...

 

Hobby Link site seems to be down for maintenance at the moment but if I remember right, most of their wigs they have are aimed at the Obitsu and Azone 60cm anime style heads, which are in the 22-24cm (9") range. The two "standard" 50cm heads are 18cm (7"). So those 60cm head wigs might be a bit roomy on the 50cm.

It's back up now, but I realize I really need to be more attentive to details... There are a few sizes for those wigs and the smallest size is 8", which might work on 50cm? Thank you very much for the information and the link.

 

I don't know. An 8" is quite a bit bigger than the 7" heads. I know some of those styles are made in the 7" size.

Interesting looking at that link because it does list the Obitsu 60cm wigs. So it works, but it will just be big. Some of them seem to be able to make it work maybe.

 

Reviving this old thread! I just purchased a 50cm Obitsu from Mandarake and am super excited! Is there anything in particular I should know about the 50cm model?
