Wearables (now 2025, lol) 2021/22 "completion" project

My challenge for 2021 is to get all of my dolls "done", so I can take a good group shot of them. I've had a semi break from the hobby - still buying dolls as I can, but not putting any actual work into them or posting - but I've had a bit of a energy boost with it recently.

I intend doing as much of this work myself as I can, painting, sewing etc so basically everything except casting eyes! I hope it's ok to make a single thread for everything rather than have several threads running? I've set the prefix as wearables seeing as that's the majority of what I'll be working on

The girl lying down is a project doll I picked up - she had her faceup sanded off at some point, so her eyes and nose are damaged and she has pretty deep scratches

@Lillith Thank you I have restrung a few of them before so I'm used to it... I just hate doing it I think I need way more elastic!

@Morri_P. Restringing isn't usually too hard as long as you keep the matching sides together. I have managed to string legs on the wrong side before, that was weird

My check-in for the first week: Undies! Plus wig caps and a couple of waistcoat tests.

3 of the pairs of underwear didn't even make it to the photo before being claimed, lol - one of each size where I was testing the fit The starry waistcoat needs buttons & buttonholes doing next, and the purple one might just be an open one? Let's see how it fits it's intended wearer first.

Not bad for the first week, especially as I lost a couple of days to a migraine

 

Week 2: Way less sewing this week, instead I spent far too many hours working on wigs

• Sewed buttons & buttonholes onto the starry waistcoat - fits Icarus pretty well! I don't know if it's going to stay his.

• Made some straight wefts for Vanya's vampire wig as I don't have enough left in the pack but they're super long so I can reuse the length. I just hate doing it

• Worked on lace hooking Clover's hair:

I think I'm about 1/4 of the way done... on this side. I did previously sew wefts together to make one of her giant ponytails, I'm actually not sure I'll need it. This wig cap was made different to the rest - the base fabric was stretched & folded into the elastic around her head, then wig lace attached over the top to help with stability. She's meant to have a zig-zag parting and only lacing or mohair/etc would manage that - and my housemate is allergic to a lot of fur so lacing it is.

• Washed the fabric to make Clover's skirt & Johann's shirt redo
  
• Did research & sketched plans for her boots

Next week, semi plans: More wefting! Pattern bra(s) for big girls, finish that shirt pattern for the big boys!

Who keeps forgetting to update the thread?

I finished a bunch of faceups in this last week's nice weather, they just need glossing:

That's not all of the faceups that need redoing, but now only Leya is still blank - she has a whole lot of mod work to be done before I get to paint her. I need to investigate using UV resin to do mods for her

Update time! Clover's clothes are nearly done, just the hood to add, give everything a good iron and it's done! Just her accessories, wig and shoes to go (the hoodie gained the pink hem after this photo.)



And clearly because I don't have enough to do, I bought some equipment to cast eyes. Here's Qiana with her pair, a shimmery gold that is exactly what I wanted for her.


Other projects done: Vanya's wig! It needs a bit of neatening but it is DONE Culi's is nearly done, and Clover's is slow going but approaching halfway.
Three more dolls on their way (a Camine?, a Sha? They are surprisingly hard to tell apart in individual photos... and a gorgeous Elfdoll modded into Amaimon to go with Johann. )

 

More eyes done, just plain shimmer ones for the fantasy side of the collection

The 3 14mm pairs have been claimed by Kirill, Yori and Yui already. The pink pair are intended for Glory, and the dark red-purple pair aren't going to be used for their intended owner because the white pigment went weird. They're just not what I wanted

Ambrosius/Amaimon arrived today, too! He doesn't look too bad against Johann but at some point in the future I might mod his eyes to be a bit bigger to match better. He's pretty heavily modified all over, his head isn't a DOD, and I've done eye mods before so it shouldn't be a problem. He needs a pair of jointed hands as well, and most of his clothes

 

Sloooow updates: Clover has her clothes and shoes! Just need to finish her wig and earmuffs now
Bee has clothes, they’re not her “default” but her halloween dress and that’s good enough for now She also has her wig, the fluffiest thing I’ve made yet! It’s made from wool, brushed out. It needs trimming and neatening up a bit but it’s just as I wanted it to be!


On the sewing desk now: a pile of uniforms, underwear and socks. A ball of blue wool and a half-knitted piece for a doll that is on layaway

@Valdemagra It takes longer than I really want to think about I'll be amazed if I get the current two finished before the end of the year, thankfully any others I have planned can wait as they have "good enough" wigs for now

 

A terrible, standing on my desk photo but I actually finished Lucina today! plus: the actual photo of Clover's finished clothes/shoes her wig is still no where near done - I am very much doubting it's going to get there before January

I think I need to swap Lucina's feet over - she's got flat feet on and she really can't stand in the boots like that. I don't have any spares so I'll have to steal a heeled pair from another one of my girls

 

I'm pretty pleased with what I have got done! I do still have nearly a month, I can definitely finish a few more... maybe! Some of them are literally sitting in half-made clothes because I start things then get bored and move on to the next thing, repeat...
I definitely made things harder for myself by increasing my collection quite a lot this year too It meant all of the budget I originally had marked for trivial things like wigs and shoes got used up. I'm sure they don't mind too much

 

Vanya is maybe almost done! I've been fixing up the patterns I had started for him and finally began putting together the actual clothes

The waistcoat is now neatly hemmed and just needs buttons along with his shirt (I will do all of them together), and I would be nearly done with his coat had I not decided it needed proper welted pockets I do love them...


I also cleaned up the list in the second post, and Icarus got to be added to the DONE list today with the arrival of his new outfit as well - he didn't really need another outfit as he already has a couple of perfectly good ones but it does really suit him.

Finally! His wig needs a bit of cleaning up at the bottom but he is as done as he's getting for now - he needs stronger wire and maybe mods to his legs as he literally can't stand unassisted that's a future problem though, it wasn't on the list
Next up: Mika! He has a top, his trousers just need a waistband and then I can make his hoodie.

Today's project was going to be a hoodie, but my brain was absolutely not having that so I made a tulle skirt instead I also sewed a couple of tucks into the back of her wig so it might stay on, not even a silicone cap keeps this one attached!
Other than sewing up her socks tomorrow along with several pairs for the boys, Pepper can be considered done as well! She needs a pair of rabbit ears and a tail but that's not on the list for this year.

Culi's wig just needs styling and trimming (the wefts I use are super long) but the construction phase is done and that's enough to tick her off the list

Zahi (Elf Ducan) is now "done"! He arrived, got a name and I cast some eyes for him. He's staying in his default clothes and wig for now, extra clothes go on the additional list for some point in the future
All "waiting" dolls have now arrived, and the only one still unnamed is my second Dream Head 3.
I cast a bunch of eye blanks and painted a bunch up! They've all been claimed so far.

Victory (Ivan) and Casa (Camine) with theirs:

Casa definitely needs a new faceup, poor boy! He came with this one. His eyes could have been a bit neater, they were one of the first pairs I tried painting and I think I got better as I went...

Dohalim (Tan Code 02) arrived in February, I made his beaded neck thing and his wig is about halfway done - I'm dreading cutting and styling it (please excuse Xie Lian in the bg, he is wearing underwear! I didn't realise how ...obvious... he was DOD boys do not have this problem)

 

More actual progress! One wig that just needs cut/styling, and a finished pair of trousers


I also finished a pair of trousers each for Mil and Kean, so they're a bit more done than they were! ...Not that Kean needed them, but I was testing the pattern to be able to make Dohalim's pair

 

I got this boy in 2007, and only now is he actually getting his 'proper' clothing Just got to test out inset pockets and then I can finish his jacket! He needs his faceup redone this year too.


Other progress: Dohalim's wig is mostly trimmed now, it just needs the front styling properly and honestly I haven't had the energy to deal with hairspray and styling glue

 

And now, Mitsukuni's clothes are done too! Next up: finishing some trouser patterns!

 

Today's project: scale Trouser Mountain.

(2x MSD size, 1x DOT boy size, 2x DOI size, 1x Ringdoll boy size. )

Other updates: Jess (DOT Tahlia) arrived! She's got a bit of uneven yellowing so that's a future task
Zahi and Sylvian have pulled themselves off the completed list. Sylvian's shoe soles literally disintegated (they were fine when I put them on!) and on getting Zahi out for photos his clothes and boots are suffering pleather rot, and have left a great many stains on him that I now get the fun(!) of scrubbing and sanding off him as best I can. It's a good thing I already intended giving him tattoos... The damage:


Next task, after trousers: paint the skirting/base boards in my living room. (No, really, I'm having new carpet fitted next week. ) Refine the t-shirt pattern for my big boys!

 

Let's be honest: I am my own worst enemy. I did get more done in 2022 but I definitely could have tried harder! I have a pile of things to sew on my desk and I literally just haven't got round to it
2023 has already started 'badly' with already having bought three DOD and it's only the 12th! They were real cheap, though...

I think I'll set up my photo area and at least get a shot of the completed dolls so far.

Small update: Poppy (Pitts) has most of a wig! I'm busy making a laced top for it, then I can fill in any gaps and style it for her. She has clothes waiting, and then all I need to do is make her some new eyes

Slowly working through the eye backlog My list says I need 27 pairs... I didn't think there were so many! (They mostly have eyes in, they're just not what I want for them lol)
I want to try the sculpted style eyes sometime too, and I definitely need to build up my skill at finer lines. That might not happen, it hasn't happened yet in my time in the hobby

More eyes finished today, and since this photo I've started actually putting them in their heads I'm pretty happy with them so far, Ein's might be a little too light but I'll deal. One of Kera's looks like it's somehow cracked internally? Thankfully she's a tender head so I'll just hide that bit until I find the energy to make a new set for her

 

And now I can cross off eyes from the whole list! Everyone has their own pair now


I can't quite put everyone's in yet - I ran out of the white tack I use - but at least they're done and I can pack away all of the eye making kit

Next task is either: wigs - finish adding extra layers for Poppy, clean up Culi's cut, and finish styling Dohalim. Do more on Johann & Clover's
or: sew up some of this huge pile of clothes on my desk. It's no trouser mountain but it's piling up...

What have I done since I last posted? Besides have pretty severe fatigue post-Covid.

Made: Wigs! (In progress: Yui, Yori & Victory just need cutting & styling.)
Bought: A whole lot of fabric to make things with, also more wefts for wigs. New bookcases to display this army on.
Spent way too much time on: Picrews I used them to plan eye/wig colours and vague styling plans!
Spent way too much money on: Miniverse tiny resin things. They're going in the Puki village & Dream Cafe as appropriate, though.

Did not do: basically any sewing!!

What's this, some actual progress??

Wigs basically finished for Victory, Yui and Yori! Victory's is actually half tied up at the back they all need a little more heat styling and probably some gel too. (and yes, I do love a wig with long front tails!)



They are wearing matching shirts as their school uniforms are in progress as well - these 3 are all part of the same world - so batch making them is a bit easier than thinking about individual clothes

 

More wig work from the weekend: Evie! Ice blue for her (I have a box full of wefts I'm slowly working through...) Once her wig's done that's her basically finished - I want to make her a sweater but that's somewhere off in the future

 

I LIVE! Oh man the winter nearly kills me each year, I swear I'd be better off hibnernating. We've had three whole days of warm weather where I am and I am feeling way more alive today now I'm starting to defrost More arrivals happened (of course), and I took up knitting again. One of my tinies now has a very cute sweater.

Now I'm up, I finally got round to working on Tylor's wig more. It's about 90% done now - I need to fill in some gaps at the front that pull up into his ponytail where it's a bit sparse, neaten his fringe, add the long swoopy bits and then actually cut the ponytail to length then it'll be finished!


It's not obvious in the photo but the back is also cut short and curled a bit I'm trying to do a bit more interesting things with their hair, which is kinda hard when you're not a stylist

2025: 16th May: Tylor's wig is FINALLY done. It's been brain-blocking me for weeks!!
4th May: ... oops. Uhhh. Hyun arrived, now named Azure. I resisted buying a Shall and a U-i.
27th March: Tylor's wig is ALMOST done! I also bought a Custom House Hyun that was on FB cheap, I've wanted one for ages
19th March: DH8 arrived yesterday, yay! I've been sorting so I'm getting back to actually posting really soon
13th March: I'm not gonna lie, I've been suffering over winter so I basically hibernated. We had a couple of warmer days this week so I've cleared and rearranged my desk ready to start working! I'm determined this photo is happening this year!!
Arrivals: a Dream Head 4, 15 and there's an 8 on the way. Time to update this list...

2024:15th December: All work and no play make Shido something something...
Libra moved to the finished list, so that's better than nothing! Tan Camine (Arthur) arrived, and I nabbed an Elf Code 02 (Winter) as well.
22nd September: finally did some body swapping! DH12, A&D and T.E-an gained bodies. Debating over another swap, the match isn't very good so the original head might get to stay.
I have to redo a whole bunch of eyes - somehow they're fine for a few months then all of a sudden one will gain an airbubble under the clear layer and discolour the whole thing. Argh!!
12th September: Elf Ducan 2 and the DOI Body arrived! Hoping to swap round heads and maybe do some sewing this weekend, I have too many projects ongoing (including home refurbishments)!
23rd August: Tan Camine still pending, got another Elf Ducan (a v1!) and a DOI body cheap! They're incoming. Did I need another Ducan? no. Did I nab him anyway for 11,000 yen? Of course
29th July: Put tan Camine on layaway.
27th July: Got a Shall and a spare body arriving on Monday, so that'll be fun to get someone out of the head box! Made a wig for Berry that he didn't suit, so Choco has it instead I think Berry needs longer hair.
29th June: Delphine arrived, U-i's ransom has been paid and I cleaned up this post.
24/25th June: nabbed a Grey Skin Delphine and a U-i!
14th June: Choco and yet another Ducan arrival!

I did pretty well getting Marillion's blouse and skirt wearable, and as much as I want to work on her jacket it (and my brain) is giving me hell so procrastination here we are again. I don't want to move her from the workspace and start anything else until she's done but I can't focus enough to work on her
