Notdoll Naripon discussion Part 1

May 25, 2006

    1. I've just discovered these dolls, and think their faces are histerical. The only thing that puts me off is the childs body. If they had a mature body I would be tempted.

    2. I always try and photograph my Violet getting into trouble - just suits her personality.

Congratulations on your purchase, my naripon is adorable, just love her.

      Hugs
      Mary-Lee

    3. well everybody's taste is different, and I think the naripons are JUST adorable. Part of their charm is their size; I don't think I'd want a big doll with that face, it just wouldn't "work", you know? Juniper cracks me up, literally, every time I look at her, so I think she's worth every bit of that $200 I spent on her. None of my other dolls have given me as much JOY as Juniper Snowpea.

she's so fun to play with because she fits into all that kelly stuff, so it's easy to find clothing and props for her. Her faceup is amazingly detailed for a doll that tiny, and I love that she's a little kid, she's a little chubby grumpy toddler who, at all costs, must have her way.

      i love the pons.

    4. Whatever it is about Naripons, I've got the bug! My Pansy will be sent tomorrow. I never used to like grumpy or sad faces, but now have both, or will do when Pfft! arrives. I know, daft name, but P, as we shall call her, is a proper little madam!!! In my mind, anyway.

Oooh I forgot to say, the very first ones I saw were the pink and blue wigged pair that Gothiclibrarian had. I didn't know what they were called and spent a year trying to find out. Now, 18 months of resistance has resulted in a Pansy coming to live here! That is the pull of the Pon. (That's what I call it. They just keep on pulling at your heart and mind and dreams and imagination... they are tiny magnets of grumpy cuteness.)

    5. Honorine and .... blanking on the second one. Honorine is the reason why I have joonie at all.

Personally I don't like sad dolls. Joonie has a lot of expressions... most of the time she looks fairly pissed off, but sometimes she looks worried or concerned. LOL. It just all works cuz she's so freaking tiny.:D

    6. I am so happy for you--you will absolutely LOVE her!! From the minute I held my first Nari in my hand, it was like I was bewitched. Yes they can be grumpy--or sad--or a million other things. My friends who have them all say the same thing--they DO have personalities and they can change their moods.

I too kept thinking about getting one--then somehow I found Junipers web page, and I knew I HAD to have one! (By the way, will Juniper be having any nbew adventures soon?)

Be sure to let us know when she comes!! I can just see you now opening the box--and---:love

    7. hopefully before halloween joonie will make an appearance or two.... i wish i could quit my job and just play all day. lol.

    8. Thanks Jenny. I'm rather excited and haven't been sleeping very well since I knew she was flying. It's the new dolly delights!

More Joonie!! Yes, please Sher. btw where is Gothiclibrarian? Is she all right?

    9. The clothes on the NotDoll Lab site for Naripons are always sold out. At least when I go on they seem to be. How often do they get new outfits in and how quickly do they sell out? TIA.

    10. Laura, Notdoll had a Naripon sale, and all the outfits sold out. I asked them about it, and they said the lady who makes them hurt her hand, and they would not be restocked. I hate that they keep the sold out items on their site!! I have also been told by Notdoll that they will not be restocking the sold out Naripon wigs, so I am suspecting they are phasing out the Pons. JUST MY OPINION! But if anyone wants one, they should order soon.

      Jenny

    11. I know a lady here on DoA who is making crocheted clothes specifically for NariPons. She used to make them for me when I had a Pon. She just got her own and is putting together dresses and such. Here is a post she did about some that she just made.
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2629432#post2629432
She even made little boots :D I know her prices will be very reasonable. You should shoot her a pm to ask her what she plans on making available :daisy

    12. Thanks Jenny. That's a shame about the naripons. I hope they don't stop making them. I can't get one now but maybe someday.

Fairy, I'll check out that link. Thank you.

    13. Those clothes on the Naripon site are incredible! I have tried to duplicate a few, but there is NO WAY I can crochet as tiny as that lady does.

If you can get your hands on some they are well worth the money. Don't think I would do those for that price with hats and boots and all.

      Karen

    14. :...( :...( :...( :...( OH MY GOD if this is true... HOW COULD THEY???? :...(

    15. Sher--I don't know this is FACT. I asked if they were restocking clothes and wigs, they said NO. I asked if any NEW Naripons were in the works for the future, and again, they said NO. Now I see on their site they have places for new dolls--a princess, prince, and Bjd Friends--so I am just guessing at this point. Maybe because the lady can no longer make dresses, they have no one to make clothes for them, and don't want to offer dolls they can't supply clothes for?

I guess a straightforward question on their Q&A board would maybe get the answer.
      Jenny

    16. it will really be a shame if they give up on the nari-pon line because they are wonderful little dolls, with so much personality.

several of my friends and i have been crocheting clothes for them ourselves, but the aren't as fine or as detailed as the ones on the doll site.

    17. It's very difficult to achieve the scale and detail that they use. I used 12 and 16 perle cotton on the ones I did, but still wasn't able to achieve what they do. Not sure what they use to make the ones they sell, but it is almost like a heavy sewing thread. I'm not ready to take that plunge yet!

      Karen

    18. Hmmm, thinking of getting a sibling for Miss Snowpea? Better hurry!

    19. No more Naripons? NO NEVER!!!

As to the thread they use, try working with one strand of embroidery cotton and a very fine hook. Just a thought. I'm not really into crochet, but I have been working on things a bit behind the scenes, knitting. Life is hectic.

    20. as the owner of several naripon costumes, they are, for sure, using either 20 or 30 weight crochet thread which can be difficult to find in lots of colors. the stuff you find everywhere, is 10. the smaller the number, the THICKER the thread. yeah it's bass-ackwards...

I crochet, but man, I don't wanna make such tiny stuff. No wonder their crocheter stopped. it is hard to see the stitches, the hook is more like a big pin and you DO stab yourself, omg. Better somebody else than me....

there are people here who make beautiful naripon things, boots too, so check the marketplace!

    21. I'm with Karen--I started using size 8 in Valdani perle cotton, and now I am using 12 Valdani which I like a lot better--the clothes are softer and drape better. But I just whipped up an outfit for BlueBelle in 8 because that was what I had the pretty blues in, and it turned out really sweet. I will post pics tomorrow, but they will be in the Lati white SP thread.
      Jenny

    22. Thanks everyone. I don't actually have a naripon but I do have a tiny doll on order that is of similar size. Anyway I love their little outfits on the site. Too bad they aren't making them anymore. I will keep my eye on the marketplace though.

    23. I love the outfits on the site...too bad they aren't available. I am looking for a reddish brown (ginger) wig for my Nari and they no longer sell them....wah!!! Anyone want to sell theirs?

    24. Oh shoot! That is my Pansy's favorite wig and I was hoping to be able to get another one as the one she has is starting to get a bit matted.

      Karen

    25. Semirans is working on some clothes for her Pon in the size 20 crochet thread. The pieces she did for mine were in a size 10 thread, and they were great. i can't wait to see what she does with the smaller thread :daisy

    26. Fairy, you are my inspiration! I have about 7 outfits made with the size 20 thread. I will try to post some pics, likely on Christmas. I have been making dresses with matching hats and booties. I am embellishing them with bead accents and flowers.

Any requests or feedback is very welcome. I'll post a link to the sale thread.

      semirans

    27. I look forward to seeing your creations.

    28. i really can't understand why they would phase out the nari-pons because they seem to be very popular.

why would they not want to continue with them when people want them?

when a friend bought hers she had to wait because of a backlog of orders. it just doesn't make sense to me.

    29. It would be a real shame. Pons have more attitude than just about any doll out there. I will buy a Pon again. My ideal would be one of each:aheartbea Yeah- I just can't see the demand drying up for them. Not when anyone visiting Juniper Snowpea's page becomes an instant convert :D

    30. I've been waiting for Notdoll to restock, but it looks like they might not anytime soon. I made some outfits like the ones on their site. Writing down the pattern is the hardest part.

      [IMG][IMG]

The size 8 perle cotton is so soft and the colors so pretty, it makes me want to crochet all day long for her. I've sold a few outfits of my own design on ebay as well. Anyone else working on more outfits for their naripon?

    31. Semirans your outfits are so cute, I can see why they would start to be addictive to make;)
Unfortunatly I can't knit or crochet but here is the dress that I made for my new arrival BB, so fiddley to sew but I am pleased with it:) I think she is to but you would never know by her expression! LOL:roll:

    32. I think your naripon is the one I keep seeing that is inspiring some kind of dark clothing to emerge from my hooks!!! I love that slightly evil look, she looks so naughty. Avena is more innocent looking than I expected. Thank you for the feedback on the outfits!

    33. Gothic Pixie, your Pon reminds me of Madonna! Definitely a girl who will take a dare over truth ANYDAY. She would look really cool in an all black crochet outfit. Hint, hint, Semirans ;)

    34. Thanks fairy@changelingchildren, I had not thought of her as having a Madonna look before but now that you have said that I realise she does doesn't she!;) She certainly has Madonna's attitude too! LOL:roll:

    35. fairy@changelingchildren is actually "fairy squisher" or to most of us, just "fairy" She likes to squish fairies between the pages of books, she claims they like it, but I have my doubts.

Darn it, fairy, you're giving me too many good ideas, now I got to order me some more of the braziliian threads, cuz they are so soft on naripon hineys.

    36. I love the dress and look you've created for BB, Gothic Pixie. Did you paint her as well?

    37. Ah thanks Valli, yes I gave her the face-up as well. I found it harder to do than an SD size one as with such a small face it really shows any mistakes. But I gave her the the look I was hoping for in the end. She now sits on my mantlepeice glaring at me all day! LOL:)

    38. I have 3 of Semirans outfits now ...my Poor Pons hahvent had a sniff in ...although Gither would refuse to wear girlie colours ...she loves black

but the outfits Fit Puki and Momo beautifully

    39. Thanks for the compliments! I'm so glad they are working out for you. I'm going to order some of the perle cotton in black (I got only colors this last batch). I'm very happy to hear they also fit the puki and momo.

    40. OMGOMGOMG. On a lark I emailed notdoll and asked if I could sell copies of their outfits! THEY SAID YES!!!! I so didn't want to step on toes, but I really loved the outfits. I can't believe it.

    41. That is wonderful news congratulations!:dance I can't wait to see the outfits!:thumbup

    42. that is fantastic ...but you know I love your work and its beautifully made
      CONGRATULATIONS :chocoberry:chocoheart:truffle:whitetruffle

    43. This is good to know because I love those tiny outfits, especially the clown outfits and the square hats!

      Zoom-Zoooom your crochet hooks Semirans!!

    44. I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle the clown one, I've been eyeing it for some time now. You guys are so encouraging! Avena keeps shaking her head about me crocheting outfits that she isn't getting to keep. I might have to look into some trades.

    45. :truffle

      :chocoberry Hi!
I have an amazing person or two to tell you about. One person is Tina on eBay who goes by the user name luv2crochet4u Her work is unbelievable, you must see it!! Also check out this site: http://www.rosapalomino.com/forsale_tiny.htm
Rosa is outstanding! She is very personable and accommodating. She works with her customer and shows you color choices. She makes boots and shoes for Nari Pons as well as Dresses and Head Bands. Her sister is also very talented and makes underwear for Nari Pons!! She makes solid colors as well as prints! Go to Rosa's website and email her, you can also ask her to have her sister contact you if you are interested in Nari Pon undies!! I have purchased numerous outfits and foot wear from the people that I have recommended and I highly recommend them.
      minniebunny:fangirl:

    46. I totally agree with you Rosa does amazing work!:thumbup She has made me 4 pairs of boots now and they are wonderful, so perfect! Also she is a lovely lady to deal with too!;)

    47. I'm glad you're ordering the black, Semi :chocoberry
Back when I had a Pon, she had a wardrobe of about 10 dresses that Semirans made for me. She also made a bunch of little crocheted flowers in TONS of colors that she sent me in a baggie so that I could have fun customizing my dresses. That was back when she was using the larger thread. I haven't even seen the new stuff she's making with the smaller thread, but I would imagine it's pretty high quality. She's also making me some clothes for another set of dolls (but those dolls aren't on topic). I am also trying to bully her into making more accessory type things for the wee ones. I am going to have to break down and buy a Pon again. I'm so torn. I want to have a Pon, but I also want a BonBon :chocoheart:chocoheart If I get a BonBon you can bet she'll wear Semi's clothes. Would that mean she was semi-clothed (alright- you can beat me now)?

    48. Okay, folks - I hate to admit it but I've been hit by the Nariponis bug. Has anyone come up with a cure? My mistake was I went to the Notdoll site to purchase a wig and eyes for Miep and a lil' one attached herself to my shopping cart. I hemmed and hawed for 2 hours and finally was able to remove her, but now I keep thinking about her. I can't decide between Daisy or nakey Ginger... It also doesn't help knowing that they can wear Kelly outfits and they are so portable. I know I'm gonna regret this, but does anyone have a side by side pic of Daisy and Ginger? I'm thinking if my medical tests go well next week and I pass with flying colors, I may get a Naripon to celebrate. Sounds stupid, doesn't it? Help!!!

    49. People seem to love them or hate them; no middle ground here much. It was difficult paying that much money for the first tiny doll I bought, but I have had so much fun with them that I don't regret any of them. I guess I'm one of those weird people who like Notdolls in general (the big ones as well). I had to have a Nari-pon the moment I saw one. I find all the Notdolls to be strangely appealing and I wish I had all of them.

    50. When hrh_babydoll bought her Pansy, I wondered why she liked the teeny baby with the Popeye arms so much. But then I guess I got Pea'd, by the Snowpea, of course, and I had to have one too. I will admit to hoping and praying to the pagan bjd gods that mine would have a sulky, naughty, spoiled sassy brat expression. Petula did not disappoint. Their faces are highly interpretive, very reactive to the open mind. For exampl. I am thinking of getting a few pukis, so Pet looks sad, as if to say, "Why do you want those, am I not enough?". I put her up near the comp. screen to compare size and look, she thinks to me, "They better stay away from my stuff" or more to the point, "I'm going to tear them limb frm limb." or "I'm wiping that Sugar's smile off her face".

I love love love my Naripon Pansy, but I'll get the pukis later anyway. Because I can, I'm greedy and it's fun to irk her.

Someday, hrh and I will take pics of our naughty ones, meanwhile the playing never stops.

linakauno, I love Malice's name and look! If she were a larger doll, I'd be afraid of her(the big Notdolls scare me). But she's perfect. She needs a little gothic castle with a dungeon and tortured slaves. Or a movie! She's another one that exudes personality. Sorry for the ramble, I just had coffee.

    51. ha ha, any celebration for a new doll. And your Naripon can slip into your pocket or purse easily. Very mobile (unlike the larger dolls).

Hope your tests go well, and you DO pass with flying colors.

      Hugs
      Mary-Lee

    52. Here's my pics of my 2 Ginger Pons. The on on the left is the newest one that I rec'd from NotDoll in Oct. 2007.

I have never seen another Ginger Pon on DoA. So you may have to take my pic and put it next to another pic of Daisy.

    53. They are the cutest little things! I resisted for 2.5 years, but I couldn't get that little Pansy out of my mind and bought th1's tiny, then she couldn't be without a Pon and bought 2! Isn't that right Teryl? They are just the oddest little heart warmers ever! Even a Puki doesn't have that Pon thing. I love my Puki/Rolo, but Pfft! just has an attitude that no other BJD has. I think if Puki brought out a grumpy tiny, I'd crumble and sell another of my tinies for one. Naughty me!

    54. Uh-oh, Valli.... a grumpy PUKI????????? I could just imagine it!

You are right, there is something very special with the Pons and their major attitudes! Seems like each one is very different after they arrive at their new home. When Pfft was with me, I could never get her to do the things that she does for you! LOL!!

    55. Thanks to all who answered my post, it helps alot. Now to decide which one...

Update: Naripon may be coming home at a later date. Thanks for the best wishes on my medical tests, I passed with flying colors. Originally I was going to adopt a Naripon but my husband suggested I get a Bobobie Sprite girl I've had my eye on as well. He reasoned that since I already have an Orientdoll tiny, I should get a larger doll instead. I caved, but that doesn't mean a Naripon isn't going to get adopted in the near future, I still have a birthday coming up in the summer.

    56. the first time i saw one, i was a little scared. May be because she was a bit sulky?
hmmm.. but I'm still not drawn to them now. They still scare me.

    57. I'm probably the only one in this thread, but... I just don't like the face... ^^; She looks very... squished. I haven't seen one in person, but in pictures her eyes are a bit wide-set and VERY close to the end of her nose, and her lips are pursed up in her face while her chubby cheeks are set low. So... squished. ^^; I just don't think she's appealing, although I know (and this thread proves!) there are many who do! ^_^ Just not my kind of doll, I guess.
