I like fantasy dolls more for head sculpts(elven mostly) but I prefer more realistic body parts, nothing too thin or over sized. I only have one doll right now, and elf, but plan to get another soon!
I only buy human dolls, unless they're tiny weird creatures, who are usually off topic here. I have 16 human dolls and two human heads, only one fantasy tiny who is on topic here.
I have 1 sd human female, 2 sd human males, 1 human boy msd, 1 human boy yo, 1 male cat anthro msd, 1 catboy yo, 2 tiny catbabies 1 male, 1 female, twins 1 female half dragon yo 1 male half demon yo 1 doll character, female tiny
Two of my dolls could pass for human (they have human sculpts), but their characters are technically spirits. My doll with pointed ears and hoofed feet definitely counts as a fantasy sculpt, as does my little dragon, and I would consider my robot to fall on the fantastical side of things.
All my dolls have human form, though almost all are supposed to be fantasy characters: demon, android, siren, fairy, alien, vampire, dragon, unicorn. All of them are 65+ cm, I only have 2 tines whom are my only human characters :P I just didn't got into fantasy sculpts, because there's so much variety I wouldn't have been able to choose, and I have almost already completed my collection (waiting for a body only) of 10 dolls (2 more than planed :P)
I like both, but I lean more towards human sculpts but many of them have fantasy stories: Technically, one of my dolls is a deity, but he looks human. Another is a ghost: he has completely white skin. Another two have super powers. I do have two elves, as I love elf ears, and I'm planning at some point to make Jotunn Loki in his blue alien form. I've also ordered a doll with horns and hooves, who'll be a kelpie type thing.
I stick with human sculpts personally, but I think that's mostly because I don't think I would be creative enough for fantasy dolls! As much as I would love to have some fantasy dolls, I think they'd all just end up unfinished, as I wouldn't know where to go with them or how to
I have mostly human and elven dolls, just one 'real' fantasy doll being half snail half human. Though this one needs much more work, than the others and still isn't finished I do like fantasy dolls, but I feel it's much harder comiting on a fantasy doll, since there is usually something I consider not perfect.
I have more fantasy, but like both equally. It’s jusy the way that shelling out characters worked for me.
I have both in my crew. All of them can take on human forms, but as some of my crew are comic movie characters, we have a superhuman (Captain America), some deities (Thor, Loki, Wonder Woman), an ice-weredragon (T'Gai Spock), and a half-breed of Dr. Strange and a Phoenix (Dr. Raphael Strange). And yes, also some plain humans such as Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye), Pepper Potts and Tony Stark. Then we have two fantasy creatures, a sweet, little dragon and a Hippogrif. For the werecreatures, I got some fantasy parts, mostly from Soom. I think they simply make the best ones for big guys. I like to have options, so I have a mixed group.
I lean more towards human dolls. I have a tiny on the way that has changeable fantasy parts (just the feet and hands), but anything not interchangeable or mag-on I likely wouldn't go for. If it's an actual fantasy creature like a dragon or some such, that's a bit different and I probably wouldn't mind getting them as event add-ons but likely won't seek them out myself. I do love seeing others fantasy dolls though, they're quite lovely and interesting!
If pukipuki count as fantasy, then only three of my 18 or so dolls are strictly human. I like having variety.
I like non-fantasy dolls in general. Weirdly, when I started I never liked Yo-SD sized dolls or fantasy dolls, but I'm starting to find myself liking fantasy yo-SD dolls Weird how that works...
I like both fantasy and human dolls, with a little more than half my current crew being fantasy. Two of mine I ordered becuase they have elf ears and were available in tan. I also have 4 of Soom's Faery Legend dolls.
I LOVE fantasy dolls!!! They are TOTALLY a preference for me--hooves, horns, colored resin, elf ears, vampires, anthros, demons, fairies, naga tails, colored hair, wings--I love it all!!!! But I like non-fantasy dolls, too. I definitely have more fantasy dolls, though.
Both? I'm a huge sucker for both elf heads and fantasy skin colors (white included). I currently have two human sculpts but neither of their characters are human. I also have one completely inhuman doll.
I have a strong preference for fantasy dolls. I have 15 fantasy dolls with visible fantasy parts, 2 human dolls that are supernatural characters (one is a vampire and the other is a magical being in human form), 2 Kuroshitsuji character dolls that are supernatural beings, and 1 human doll that is actually human. I love pointed ear heads so much, I just think they are so majestic and interesting!
I prefer non fantasy dolls. I have Ender from soom and I choose human body for him. All my other dolls are also human :P
I think a couple others have the same thing of we have human sculpts with non human characters? Like Sparrow here in my pfp is a vampire of sorts so has a human sculpt (or demon sculpt, technically speaking??? Since he's a ringdoll lucifer??? I dunno ) But I also relate massively to haruchaan. I'd love a fantasy doll, I really would but just actually committing to finishing one? I don't think I could.
I have about equal numbers of both in my crew, and each type has its own attractions... I can't say I really prefer one over the other.
I have only human ones now but I like looking at fantasy dolls, they're always so fascinating. I've owned a several SOOM ones before but they never stayed. I have the means of making a hybrid fantasy doll as I have some fantasy parts tucked away in a closet but I'm still debating if I want to go down that road.
This is a hard question for me, as only one of my dolls was explicitly sculpted as a fantasy character, and I generally am not a fan of fantasy or anthro sculpts, but many of my dolls aren't quite human. Despite thinking of my dolls as not quite human, I also don't like describing my dolls as fantasy characters. I am far more interested in creating a universe which examines the question of whether "any sufficiently advanced technology [can be] indistinguishable from magic." So my LLT Roderich/Granado Female Nuevo Suri explores the boundary of powers and godliness, my Dollshe Amanda/Limhwa Anu examines if scientific knowledge can be mistaken for witchcraft and magic, my SimplyDivine Harlequin Arial requires determining the boundary between human and the supernatural (townspeople think she's fae), and my Dollshe Arsene/Dollstown 17 Secernere asks whether certain remarkable abilities (that an human, educated in a certain way from birth could exhibit) constitute a superpower. I think leaving the door open to magic and the supernatural is more interesting than arguing definitively one way or another.
I have only one fantasy doll, a vampire with fangs and pointed ears. The rest are human, though one of them is a magic user with some nonhuman ancestry (it only shows in his hair and eye color). I plan on shelling more characters from the story he belongs to, and they all use magic but are all pretty much human. I like to look at fantasy dolls, but I have to admit I'm not very interested in owning one, especially not with super-elaborate parts. It's just too intimidating for my clumsy self. XD
Good question. I'd always thought I'd prefer humans, but I have two elf-eared dolls that I might choose to be the doll to represent oneof my original characters.
It really depends a bit on your definition of "fantasy." I have 10 elves, 17 other fantasy sculpts, and 17 "humans." But those "humans" include magic users, demigods, and ghosts, so they're still very much not grounded in reality (of the 17, only 4 are "mundane humans" with no supernatural skills of any sort). My tastes clearly run to the fantastic, even when visually they may appear more human.
Out of all of my dolls (I own 46), only 1 considers himself human. That is a bit dicey though as a couple of generations back in his ancestry there's Grigori (angels who were sent to Earth to watch humans). Everybody else? Some flavour of Otherworldly although quite a few appear to be human physically. Others, there's no doubting they are not human as they have hooves or tails or horns or fangs or weird skin colours. I prefer fantasy characters as that is my genre of writing and all my dolls are characters from my novels.
The majority of my characters are elves so elf ears are nice, though I do have a fair amount of elf ear mods to get to eventually. A few of my characters have specific fantasy traits and it's very difficult to find one doll that fits them all.
Most of the dolls I have on my wish list are human except for one, but I tend to like the centaurs best. I have seen a few dragons as well that are just adorable. And putting cat ears on anything makes it way cuter. >.<
I'm a total sucker for fantasy sculpts. I'm usually only interested in a human sculpt if there is something really special about it to me.
I have one tiny with elf ears and one floating head with elf ears and vampire teeth, but that's it. I prefer human sculpts, for sure.
I love fantasy dolls, but most of mine were sculpted to be human. That doesn't stop me from making them into weird fantasy creatures anyway.
I love human form dolls and never thought i would love to own any before, until fairyland start actcully producing fantasy parts doll lately felt in love with fairyland fantasy parts, so i started collecting them , i have 4 fantasy dolls.
Fantasy dolls look fun, but I tend to go towards extremes with my characters- they're either totally human in design or totally anthro. I don't often blend them. Still, in my desire to put a finger in every pie, I might get one eventually.
I like different dolls. In first I see on face (sculpt). And elf ears, tails, horns etc. are second reason my love to bjd.
I have 13 dolls with 2 more on the way. My dolls are mostly human, but I also have 3 who are elves (2 Minifees and 1 Littlefee). I collect mostly SD size dolls and so far none of my SDs are fantasy characters. That is about to change however. The 2 dolls on layaway will be characters from Final Fantasy VII. They aren't fantasy dolls in the traditional sense, though one is going to be the character Yazoo, who is technically non-human. I would definitely be open to more fantasy dolls, such as elves and vampires.
I wouldn't be interested in BJD if it were not for fantasy sculpts. I do have a few human dolls anyway, but I perceive them as living in the same world as my fantasy dolls.
I strongly prefer fantasy dolls for my own collection! So far I've got two fully assembled elves and one fully assembled goblin, plus another elf head awaiting a body. I have some planned dolls who aren't fantasy sculpts, but they'll be fantasy characters, so
I prefer non-fantasy sculpts, though I might consider a vampire or elf, if the sculpt looked very human-like. Some vampire fangs are small and elf ears can be covered by a long wig. Centaurs, mermaids and anthropomorphic animal dolls don't really interest me.
Just arrived yesterday... there are so many fun fantasy dolls these days! Villitunes Mizuki Cyclops (tiny)
I love fantasy sculpts! I've only got 3 human sculpts on my wishlist (one of which is ordered and shipping soon). All the others are fantasy in some way or another, from elf ears to vampire or werewolf fangs to being anthropomorphic in some way! I've always loved fantasy characters and settings and so it doesn't surprise me that my collection will be mostly fantasy sculpts
I like human sculpts with fantasy elements. Doll Chateau is a really good blend of this, human features that are a little too delicate or elongated and lend well to fairy style builds. The Doll Zone Tarot II series is something I’m salivating over, as well — I want to make a psychopomp. I like little sprite BJDs as well, and the Elizabeth spider BJD. I put in an order with doll chateau and they’re sending me a free Clemens for a promotion so I guess I will own more fantasy dolls than human ones, soon. So logically I think “human!” but by the facts I guess I’m a fantasy collector.
Hmmm that's a tough choice for right now I guess sculpt wise I prefer "human" but their characters come from a fantasy world so the real answer is both? I dunno sounds about right haha
Hello ! I think it depend on what character you want to shell in a doll. For my first doll, I didn't know what to choose between fantasy or human doll so when I found an event of an elf doll with a human head as a gift I was super happy ! Right now fantasy or human I don't care as long as I fall for them !
I like both human and fantasy dolls. I like to see different concepts of fantasy parts other than centaurs, deers, mermaids/seahorse, and vampires though. They're way too mainstream IMO
I love fantasy dolls conceptually, but I can never seem to bond with them. I have sold my centaur dragon, and vampire. I have all humans and one tiny elf.
I used to like both but not anymore , I strongly prefer non fantasy ones cause they are far more versatile some fantasy colors or elf ears I still like but fantasy parts and stuff are not for me anymore it limits the fashions my dolls wear and are pretty in so I prefer human dolls cause I have much more freedom in how I can dress them and still feel it fits them nicely
All my dolls are regular human sculpts bar one – Dollzone's jellyfish (once AusPost decide to finally get him across the country...). I tend to prefer the versatility of human sculpts, but I enjoy seeing what people do with their fantasy dolls
I have a fairly good-sized collection, and I’d have to say my crew is a delightful mix of both (and I love it that way!) I created my dolliverse to be something akin to a Tim Burton’s Alice world, where all sizes and forms of creatures could coexist and commingle. This freed me up to collect whatever caught my eye as long as I could come up with a character for them, because diversity was key from the very beginning. I have human sculpts and fantasy ones, anthros and planthros too! And I love fantasy colored resin.
Probably a third of my collection is fantasy coloured resin. Maybe a quarter, I haven’t done the actual math. A majority of my dolls are getting wings, while those that aren’t are likely getting horns and tails. For actual fantasy sculpts, I have one on the way (soom breccia), one with a scorpion tail, two with skull heads, one with a birdcage in her chest, one with a mechanical mermaid tail, and I have spare feline looking feet that are gonna go on someone eventually, so solidly a fantasy doll collector here!
I have exactly 1 regular human doll (my first), and he's surrounded by a plethora of fantasy dolls in all shapes and sizes lol. These range from a (incoming) tiny elf to a SD sized weasel anthro, and I love them all! The more fantasy the better!
I think fantasy dolls look cool, but I wouldn't want to own one. I definitely prefer human or at least human-like such as an elf.
I like both fantasy and human dolls. I prefer fantasy dolls a bit more, but I have more human dolls at the moment.
