HOKAY! hi all if I've put this in the wrong place and it needed to be in patterns go ahead a move it, I wasn't to sure so yea.. Its 5am and I cant sleep, so I thought I'd make my 1st ever tutorial ^_^ OK lets get started today we will be making this:- now you do not need to be able to sew at all to do this (unless you want to add something fancy to it like a lace edge or what ever floats your boat, and it takes only about 10 minutes. you will need : doll *AHEM! it's Kora!*, scissors, lace/ribbon or string (or even a long bit of fabric) and pretty much any type of fabric (I'm using an old t-shirt for this one) So.... take the fabricand measure up how long you want your dress to be, now add on a tiny bit more just in case you get a bit scissor happy later on (remember you can slowly cut more off with ease but its harder to stick things back on) now cut out a square that is twice the desired length of the dress on each side (well obviously or it would be a rectangle lol now fold this in half then half again and then cut a curved line (so when it opens it will be a circle) Unfold so its in half not a quarter and figure out where you neck whole will be (make a mark if you wish... I can never find a pen/cil so I normally just guess) and then cut it out *I am not your biggest fan right now....just wait til you restring me im gonna catch your fingers ¬¬'* now place back on top of your doll and work out where your gonna put the arm holes and how big you want them and then cut them out by now it should look a little something like this (but probably more circular...) ok place it on your doll (will probably have to take the head off) *OH GOD IT LOOKS LIKE A MOOMOO!!!!PUT THE CAMERA AWAY!!!* now cut a piece of lace/ribbon/whatever long enough to tie a bow, wrap it round their waist and tie a bow at the back voilà and you are done! *not too shabby I must say...hmm you might be off the hook this time Lunchboxx* Some other pictures -sorry for the one with my Hujoo berry in I know shes OT but she is the smallest doll I currently own and wanted to show its possible on any size- http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t293/lifeblood110/IMAG0729_zps3ff180b3.jpg So yea, let me know what you think, this is my 1st tutorial, I hope you liked it and i really would like it if you could post your pictures on here so i can see how creative you guys can be with it ^_^....now i have to go restring Kora and hope she isnt still made and pinches my fingers :s
Not a bad idea at all! I think I'll use this to make something for my smallest dolls - I'm usually to lazy to sew for this fiddly size!
I've used something similar to this before and I agree, it's so much easier (and lazier) than sewing and it looks really effective! Great tutorial! Hope Kora is happy now at least! *Jaden says hi! :P*
Well... I started out with this tutorial, but then I decided to modify it a bit so have sleeves, and then it wasn't no-sew anymore, just... simple-sew? Here is my dress, with added sleeves: Would you mind if I posted a tutorial thread for my version?
ahh so cute XD.....yea sure go ahead but if you could put a link back to this thread that would be brilliant thankyou
Thanks for the great idea! I also try to make a dress. Only need to carefully handle the edges of the fabric
Perfect for me ! I have no time to take care of my dolls at the moment !!!! Thank you so much for the idea !!!!
I tried this out really quickly while waiting for a dollie friend to come over. I think it turned out pretty good especially considering my sewing skills are pretty nil. Thank you for the tutorial!
Okay yeah good this is probably what I better use for first timing this. Blc Lord I need to learn to sew.
The dress is adorable! She looks ready to go out dancing. I would want to make this even if it weren't no-sew.
I have so much difficulties to sew clothes for my Resinsoul Yu, this is just a miracle !!! Thanks you so much !!! Sorry, I double-post, but I did it !!! Thank you so much for this awsome technic ! I'm gonna make so many more for her ! And I think that if I made te circle smaller, I can just do t-shirt
I slapped one of these together since I'm taking Kanbiet to a Japan festival tomorrow and I had some some spare fabric from a Upcycle-a-thon I volunteered at I think it turned out ok
Great tutorial, thanks for sharing! My girl needs a new wardrobe badly, so I'll be making one or two of these.
The finished product is extremely cute given the absolute simplicity of the design, and no sewing! Absolutely fantastic for people (like myself) suffering from a low dolly budget and a lack of sewing skills/equipment. Thank you for inspiring me to make a simple day dress for my little lovely!
Thanks a bunch for the tutorial, I think I might try it for a Halloween dress for my girl in the future.
I finally did this and made a dress for my SD girl, Lily! Here's a picture! Tomorrow, Tessie is getting a pale blue one! I really enjoyed doing it and the tutorial was pretty easy to follow. I can't wait to do it again!
Love the Idea. I was just wondering what fabric would be good to use on the dress. I was going to make one for my new girl. Would I just need to cut the fabric longer to make it ankle length?
Thanks for sharing this great tutorial! Made a really quick dress for my girl. I'm thinking of adding some lace at the hems later.
Nice tutorial!!! This is a really cool idea especially with new dolls that you don't have clothes for right away.
I used fabric I had leftover from a dress I made for myself. I had to pull the hole back so her wings could fit through it, which resulted in this longer part on the back: (Flash makes this type of fabric COMPLETELY see through) So I cut that off and this is about what I came up with: (no flash so you can see what it actually looks like) I will be doing some stitching anyway just to get the folds to lay right but that's basic stuff you can do by hand. I'll post an updated picture when I finish that.
WOW! all of your dresses look so awesome ^_^ Glad I could be of help :P Keep the pictures coming guys!!!!!!
I'm so excited! I found this before I had my doll and I thought I should try this but I didn't save this thread, and now I have my doll and I so can't wait to try this out!~
I LOVE THis Idea! I Made A Blouse Using This Same Idea Once! For My BJD Idrial! Its Rather Fun And Simple! Thank You For Posting THis!
I can't wait for my girl to get here so I can try this for her. I'm not sure if my boy will like it if I try to make him a dress but he is so small and I can't sew for him yet.
I loved this tutorial! I know how to sew a button back on a coat, but that is about it. And the yellow captions are... well, they make me happy.
