Nihilum Dolls

I love them too! The heart-headed one, core, is my favorite. Phantom is a close second. I wish core was going to be released in opaque resin, but alas. The transparent ones are gorgeous too... and I saw nihilum replied to someone's Instagram comment asking for an opaque skull within the transparent resin heart and said this: "I think I may be able to pull it off", which is certainly something to be excited about!

I don't love their bodies so much as their heads, but I appreciate that they seem very poseable. The headbacks and faceplates are sold separately now though, so I'm hoping I might be able to stick one of those cool heads on a cheaper body!

Your smoke/mist spirit sounds lovely! Looking forward to photos! The horns faceplate is so delightfully understated yet intriguing.

I love these, I've been following him on IG for years. I've never been sure what to do with one though, they're so unique I just never knew how to style one so I've just admired them from afar. But his newest frog spirit thing I may have to get at some point.

 

I had never heard of these dolls before, but they are very neat! They remind me of Silent Hill 2's Bobble Headed Nurse, I would love to get one if they were 1:6. I sadly don't collect female BJD (my 1st was a female, but I don't really want more females of this genre, I already hoard a lot of other kinds). I love translucent stuff, so I'm a bit tempted to get the face plates, just to have, but they are in Spain? Shipping would be a pain in the gut just for a face plate. I have too many OT pre-orders to worry about right now, to justify the cost of shipping, if they anywhere in Europe. *sigh*

Shipping appears to be free (how?)? But I just paid DHL shipping for a toy-haul from Japan, so I'm pooped right now (from all the hoarding I've done lately). I think I will get a few plates eventually, if the translucent Phantoms are still around by the time I have extra, extra-funds for toys (and don't hoard other unplanned stuff before then). They are in Russia, not in Spain, sorry I didn't know about this artist before now. Thanks OP for sharing. (:

 

These dolls look super cool, I wouldn't have learned about them if it wasn't for my lurking on this forum without any need (I stopped collecting BJD over a decade ago), and awesome people who share cool stuff, so thanks again @Quiet and Insane, for posting about them. (:

Also, I wasn't suggesting the artist is being careless, or negligent with orders when he offers free shipping, but was actually quite pleasantly surprised when I saw it myself. Of course I don't think you suggested, that I suggested that, I just want to make sure nobody believes that's what I meant when I said "how" to free shipping, because I always suffer the most from international shipping costs more than the actual items, but I'm a hoarder. I would literally be eternally crying tears of joy giving thanks to all the retailers I purchase from, if any offered free shipping at any given time (I highly doubt that's about to happen anytime soon, now that the Japanese post is raising their prices this year).I would love all retailers to offer free shipping all the time! Lol! DX

If I had to guess, PayPal is freaking out over OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) sanctions. Basically, the US govt (where PayPal is based) is cracking down hard on any economic activity with Russia. Any time there's some huge ransomware attack in the news that's tied to Russia, OFAC tightens the screws (via Presidential executive order, of course).
Frankly, I've been surprised at the amount of apparently seamless activity with Russian doll artists and US residents I've read about.

My (reasonably educated) guess is that PayPal got smacked by regulators during an audit and shut down their Russian accounts in response.

Believe me - PayPal wants your money. I'm sure they aren't happy about it, either.

 

Been a while since I’ve read through all PayPal’s rules, but unless something has changed, the official rules don’t allow the use of split payments for goods, like layaways, and given they were demanding shipments for all the payments received, I’m betting that is what they went after them on - though why now could be the above or any other whim of the PayPal algorithm.

 

Fifth Motif and Rugged Realism have been hit with this same regulation in the past, and I wouldn’t be surprised if other dollmakers have suffered the same; PayPal allows preorders, but only if the product can be shipped out in 20 days after the sale. The only way you will know about this rule is if you go combing for it in the terms and regulations yourself, since there is nothing else to indicate that a preorder would violate PayPal’s terms. I believe abs2891 is also correct - an invoice can’t be paid by layaway - but then that also presents confusion because PayPal appears to offer the option to do so. The ToS aren’t written in a way that clearly gives instructions in the context of a dollmaker’s business model, how to host a preorder or a layaway plan for your buyer, and innocent mistakes are rewarded with reserves on the dollmaker’s account, which effectively shuts down any ability to do business using PayPal.

It sucks, and the only way to even know is to be forewarned by another dollmaker.

The good news is that Fifth Motif and Rugged Realism were able to bounce back. I know specifically that Rugged Realism now uses Stripe to process payments, though the platform isn’t available to Russian merchants.

 

The same happened to me, I had to miss out on Helene’s alphabet boys ah well, tough cookies. I did pay in full for Nihilum’s preorder, so I should still be getting my Core.

If they came in 1/3, I'd be so down; there's so few monster girl BJDs out there, and of those, very few suit my aesthetic tastes the way Nihilum does.

My creature is heeere! Her name's Orchid. She holds a pose quite well, though she does seem to hate standing unassisted. Thus, she gets the rocking chair in the doll cabinet for now.

I'm extremely impressed with her, but am very paranoid that I'm going to snap one of her fingers. So tiny and slender!
