Shipping Nightmare Scenario

Aug 4, 2023

    1. Hello, just looking to find some solace here. I'm dealing with a nightmare scenario with two of my grail dolls and don't even know what to do.

I was sending my beloved Illusion Garden's Unicorn Yuli and Yuli heads out to a face-up artist abroad to get them painted. And USPS has decided despite the very expensive shipping and insurance that I've paid for to play hopscotch with my package. I sent it out on 3 day shipping, and its now been in the mailing system for over a month traveling from country to country in some kind of death loop :...( Its traveled to Japan, China, then back to the US where it went across the US and now it looks like its traveling back out abroad.

The artist is just sitting there waiting and I don't even know what to tell them this is just a disaster! :(

This is now the second package recently that USPS has decided to play games with me with. I have lost all faith in them to take care of any package at all.

    2. Oh my god, what a nightmare!
I've had some packages do a loop between states before reaching me, but a world tour is a new one.
What the heck is even going on there??

    3. I know its absolutely wild to me. :atremblin I've literally never seen something like this, I have 30 days worth of tracking letting me know of the 25+ different locations they've been too. Honestly if they get back to me Yuli and U.Yuli will have traveled more than I can hope too in my life :doh

I know right now there's striking on the horizon for the mailing systems here in the US. I have to wonder if this is part of it? Maybe just not enough workers so things just get tossed about in different cargo bins without a thought?

    4. Have you spoken to anyone at USPS?

    5. I have heard from other people recently that international packages have had.... inconsistent results. I was lucky and mine made it no problem without being returned, but I don't think you're alone in logistics being difficult in some situations.

    6. I'm sorry this is happening to you. I had no idea this could happen. I think it's best you just tell the artist what is happening. Not saying anything because of fear might lead to the artist losing trust in you or perhaps cause unnessary problems. Once you tell the artist that will be one less thing to worry about for you. You are already worried and stressed out about USPS, so if you explain to the artist it might at least lessen your stress levels a tiny bit if you at least have one less thing to worry about.

    7. Oh gosh, my heart goes out to you; that must be beyond stressful and frustrating :(. I’ve been pretty lucky with dolls, but my husband had an issue with a very limited boxed set Zelda game he had his heart set on, it had actually managed to get to our local post office before being sent back into oblivion. I’ll be sending out positive vibes that your chosen artist receives your heads very soon. Keep us posted.

    8. Yes I've gotten in contact with them and they've opened an investigation for me at this time! I will need to wait to see if they can catch the package for me :(

I'm hoping it turns around and stays in the US rather than goes abroad again.

I've been very lucky prior to this with none of my international packages encountering any struggle.

I'm not sure what it is about this month however it's been just a terrible experience with the post office. Not even just with international but in the United States.

I'm so glad to hear you're packages have been safe and I hope that continues to always be the case for you! <3

Thank you so much for this advice. I completely agree with you, I've been holding off exactly for this reason. But it truly has been stressful between waiting for the post office and debating on what to say.

The last thing I want is to be causing this artist grief, it was never my intention. I already paid large a deposit too so I'm sure they're nervous.

I have updated them on the situation at hand and am hoping it all goes well. :sorry

Thank you so much for the positive energy, Im trying to keep my spirits up (but realistic)<3 if they are lost it'd break my heart but I did at least insure them fully. :sorry I'll fight to get something back for this.

I'm so sorry that your husband lost his box set. I never wish anyone trouble with the post office it's a nightmare to get in contact with and get updates on. I hope you both never encounter something like this again!

    9. I hope USPS can catch it and bring it back to you. I've never received some prints because of where the sender lives - their post office is KNOWN to be full of people who don't like their jobs and make mailing things a nightmare on purpose. Where I live, I have great post office staff so I have been lucky.

I also hope the face up artist is understanding. If you get your heads back, maybe try UPS or FedEx or DHL? Or ask the artist what services are reputable for getting packages to them?

    10. Update on the situation. The Yuli's are back in Tokyo! :...(

I have no idea what USPS is doing

I'm so sorry about your prints! :sorry What an awful situation to be stuck with a post office like that!!!

Mine isn't even usually awful. I've hardly had issues until this month. But I guess when it doesn't work out it REALLY doesn't work out with this one. That shipping was 3 day shipping too cost over $100. How did my $25 package to France make it but not the more expensive fully insured one :doh

The artist has been nothing but kind to me, they have offered to refund me the deposit I placed. I'm truly grateful and dying of shame to be troubling them like this :(

    11. @PorcelainVeins The artist even sent the prints out TWICE. At this point, I just have accepted I will never get them. I also don't really talk with the artist anymore so I guess it's okay.

The mysteries of the postal service! I just hope they can find it for you and bring it back to you!

It's not your fault though and it is very kind of them to give back the deposit. I admit, I have never sent my dolls out of the country for a face up. I sent a body out for making sure an outfit fit but that's it. I have anxiety and I just feared the heads never making it back even though plenty of people send them out and get them back from overseas. But if your heart is set on this faceup artist, I would still ask them which mail carrier is the best to use. It might cost you even MORE but if it will get there and back safely, that's what matters. If you're not set on that artist, maybe find a US based artist?

    12. You don't have anything to be ashamed of, I 100% guarantee that the artist is not judging you in any way! Everyone knows the mail is out of our hands. There's nothing you can do but wait and the artist knows this.

I agree with jessholy that if the heads make it back to you, send them using a different service. And make sure that the artist does not return them to you using a method that will go through USPS again.

I haven't had any problems with USPS, but this makes me nervous. I hope the box makes it to the artist safely, or gets returned to you, soon... :horror:
