Customs New Zealand Customs hold times?

Feb 8, 2011

    1. I purchased a doll on the MP a week and a half ago and the parcel was sent Express Mail from USPS (United States). I am guessing because of the weather it took an entire week to make it to NZ. Now my girl has been sitting in customs for three days and the tracking has been stuck on "Held for Clearance".

I have never experienced this before and I receive quite a few parcels from overseas...My last parcel from Leekeworld got here in only 3 days.

Anyone have this happen with NZ Customs? When can I expect to have my girl released from her prison? :(

    2. Well I'm from Australia but I rang up customs today and they said if somethings held it could be from 5-10 business days ^^; there has been extra care with parcels in Aus/NZ from America lately because of safety concerns so maybe that would be the reason, if you're concerned, ring up the customs and ask them, perhaps they need you to fill out paperwork for her before they'll send her on :)

    3. Was her value declared at over NZ$400? If so you may need to wait for their ransom demands :(

    4. Thank you. I think if the tracking doesn't change by Friday (or she doesn't show up by then), I'll ring them. I am just really anxious to finally have her. The wait feels like an eternity :)

    5. It probably was. The seller probably declared the full value/what I paid which is over that amount.

    6. They will send a letter, but if you ring them with the tracking & customs number it's quicker :)

    7. OMG :/ So I have to pay ransom, eh? That is a first for me...Yikes. Is it normal GST? (15%) or something much worse? :)

    8. If it's declared over NZ$400 there will be a fee. It's usually GST, plus Duty's Tax I think? I would ring NZ Post in the morning before ringing NZ Customs, they should at least be able to tell you what the hold up is :)
      Nite nite...

    9. Theres nothing in their Duty Rate list to say 'dolls' get charged Duty Fees :)

    10. Ah thanks again. I have been looking at the Customs site and am a bit sad to have to part with even more money :(

    11. $117 in ransom paid. :(

    12. Gosh I really feel for you international buyers. Having to pay such high customs fees

    13. Yeah, its pretty terrible. I'm an expat, so this is new to me. :( I now dread getting my next 2 girls.
