New start

Mar 1, 2012

    1. I started new projects I wasnt very satisfied with the others...or better I dont know if I can work on them now...

I actually was just messing around with making clay stuff for my kids and also made casts from dolls for them and one turned out so stretched, but sweet that I will try to use it for making a doll..

what do you think? doesnt she look a bit like an ape girl?

i really need some more motivation for the projects...

    2. I don't see the ape in the girl's head, but I do think it looks nice. ^_^ The profile is looking great on the guy. Good luck with this!

    3. I just bought "real" doll clay...I am quite curious about how working goes with this...so I am not really keen on to work on my projects above...*shame on me"...dont really know if its worth it do you know?

    4. I have my new clay now and I started making a body...dont have a head yet...

this is just the inner parts, I will also form more curves, bute these are baked so far...

      are the proportions ok?

    5. It is a bit hard to say considering the current level of refinement but the thighs look too long compared to the calfs. And the arms looks short but maybe because they lack shoulders and once you add shoulders it will be fine.
I am not sure starting from this body shape (I am not talking about the arms and legs) will bring something anatomically cool but then again I am no sculptor xD
Try refining it a bit by at least linking the parts together and I believe we will have a better idea of what is correct and what can be improved.

    6. worked a bit on the body

I will cut her in two parts under the breasts, I hope she will get a more natural line then...

    7. Wigs! I love the white one on her. I can't wait to see how she turns out!

    8. how can I /should I cut the body to correct some of the not so good parts?
or shall I have it fixed first before cutting?

    9. heylo~ A small suggestion? The corners of the mouth go very deep into the face, and then there's a half-ring of flesh that comes outwards around the dip. Right now your lips look a bit pursed, like she's making the duck-face expression while expression displeasure..?

    10. I find that it's better to cut the body apart after you're satisfied with it-- that way you're not left having to hold the body parts together when you make modifications. Makes for better flow overall. How do you think that cutting it apart will help you?

    11. if you're doing multiple bakes, hollowing it out early can mean you don't have to cut through --- and dig out --- a solid piece of hard clay later. But take care that your hollow piece doesn't collapse in the oven. When you bake uncured clay, it softens before firming up. Some people will use a heat gun to blow on the parts the parts under the most pressure, so that those parts hardens a bit, before baking the whole thing. Your hollowed out piece can collapse or warp during the first bake, and there's a small chance that it can warp during subsequent bakes (especially if the walls become too uneven or thin in places). Do tests?

      EDIT:
      Wait, I misread. Er...

I second what sailor said, it's pbb best to get the body mostly where you want it before cutting up...

    12. Hi...thank you very much...in fact I have worked on these parts yesterday after I asked my question about the body, because I didnt know how to continue...I will post a new pic of the face soon, I think its a bit different now...

I made the nose a bit more equal on both sides and also added clay to the mouth sides...

    13. about the body:
I actually have no idea where to work on the body to make it look more natural...it looks really stiff...not like an S-form, do you think adding more clay to the shoulders will help?

I thought about cutting it in the middle and lean it together in a more natural form? so I can take away parts that dont fit and add clay where needed?? No?

I think I find it really hard to make the first body...lol

    14. Hmm. Have you baked it yet? If so, I would suggest taking away clay from her lower back and adding clay to the front, rather than cutting it apart. Cutting may seem like the easier option, but it will affect the structural integrity of the sculpt, which will lead to problems and heartache down the line. Polymer clay is never as strong after it's been broken. (If your armature gets in the way of that, that's a different story...)

It is tough, haha. You should've seen my first body. It will be worth it in the end.

    15. yes have already baked it...a few times, each time when I added things...

I also cut away parts of the head and added them newly and baked it...its seems strong enough...

(can I see your first try somewhere?? )

    16. If it seems strong enough, then go for it :D I never had much luck with polymer clays, which is why I'm giving such cautious advice. The stuff would always shatter or break in unexpected ways. Tried different brands, different curing methods... I hope it works out much better for you.

I don't think I've kept any pictures around. Threw out the thing some time ago, heh. was too embarrassed of it :o

    17. The body, I think it's the rib cage shape that makes it look like a body. The rib cage is shaped like an egg leaning backwards...

    18. The breasts look much more natural now, and I like the stylized curve of her hips. I think your head might need a little more forehead, though.

    19. the breasts look even better now that I worked on them ( no picture yet)...I also evened out the curve of the hips a bit, she should be able to wear a corset later...
thank you for your thoughts about her head I also think she need a bit more forehead, you are right...
