View attachment 556 So, so far, I've been pretty terrible at finishing BJDs, but this semester, I have two projects that are a semester long, and for one of them, I'm making a few tiny little BJDs and I'm not only going to finish sculpting their bodies, but also give them faceups and outfits. I took this picture several days ago, but I finished this little guy in a week--just in my free time. I'll take a new picture when I stop feeling anxious about test stringing him and learning how poorly I crafted his stringing loops. For a sense of scale, my notebook is a 5x8. He's a yokai type character and he's a OOAK made from Sculpey--y'know, that gross pink translucent stuff. I added some green and yellow (but apparently not enough) to get that color.
What do you use for your interior inside the sculpey? He's coming along looks like you might finish him :3
Because I am a masochist, I didn't make an armature. I built his head, chest, and limbs as solid pieces and hollowed them using a needle tool and drill tool (I bought a kit of wax working tools and one of the tools is like a drill, but it doesn't have a channel, if that makes sense). For his thighs, I used coil method because I was running out of his color of clay, but for the trunk piece, I used the slab method (which I do NOT recommend--at least on this scale). Normally/for bigger BJDs, I use glue and crumple and wrap newspaper, then add a layer of masking tape to prevent immediate leeching. The body is finished, I'm just too anxious to test string him--but when I do test string him, I'll post pictures. I'll also post pictures when he gets his costume =)
cant wait to see hm all strung up! and i know the feeling of not finishing dolls.... i dont want to count how many ive started.... :/ hollowing out pieces is a paint in the butt thats for sure! I've tried those methods on making dolls before and no matter what the scale, its a pain. he's looking amazing so far! continue continue please!!!
Aw shucks His body is actually finished, I'm just suuuuuuper nervous about stringing him, because I don't have any epoxy right now to fix him. But like I mentioned, I avoid hollowing--I go out of my way to avoid hollowing--because it is such a pain in the butt! I'm also working on the second already. I should put together a post on that one =)
View attachment 558 As a matter of fact, this is my progress to date on the second one =) I meant to do more, but I had other things occupying me this weekend.
