Hi! I am so happy to have found this forum thanks to Patl! There is a wealth of information and talent here. I am trying to get the courage up to sculpt a SD size head made from Ladoll, Ladoll Premix or Polymer clay. I think my preference would be to use an airdry clay as I like the ease of flexibility in adding and substracting to the sculpt. Patl had mentioned to me that LaDoll may not be strong enough to withstand the tension needed. Has anyone tried Ladoll or Ladoll Premix in doing a head sculpt and found there to be problems with cracking? Any tips would be helpful. Thanks so much. Hugs, Stephanie
hi Stephanie! so glad to see you here! and just to clarify abit - my concern with the ladoll or premix for a head is when you are stringing it on a full resin doll.... I have had heads crack and and crunch a bit when I tried to do that - when I pulled the elastics for the legs up thru the hole in the neck of the head and tried to pull them tight enough - it cracked the ladoll neck area. hope to see pics of your sculpts here soon.... take care, patl
Welcome! And Patl is right about the airdry clay. When you want to string it on a doll, it won't hold, because the elastics will put too much pressure on it. But then again, it is very easy to work with, you can sand it endlessly and it's not as fragile as one might think. My doll's head fell on the floor three times and nothing was wrong with it apart from a little dent on the nose. No cracks, nothing. I doubt I would've had the same luck with super sculpey. I'm not sure what clay you'll have to use if you want to use the head without casting it, sorry. You'll need someone else's advice on that. Anyways, I wish you good luck and am looking forward to seeing some progress-pictures!
