I've been working on this one for a while, well before I went to Japan (Yay! Super Dollfie store!) in July. Actually, it's on hold while I wait for some tools and books I ordered are sent to me. Hopefully they'll get here soon. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38285112/ http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38285015/ Please forgive the fuzzy pictures... I was somewhat in a hurry this afternoon when I took them. The eyes may be too big, or too close together... I want to narrow them, but I need to wait until I get my new eyes so I use their curve to build on. (I was too gungho to sculpt again, and just did without them... it's proven to be a pain. before I do this, though, I need to build up the skull cap just a bit, so I can fit SD sized wigs on a little more snuggly... they sit too low on the forehead, etc. The nose probably needs to be widened, and just enlarged a little over all. and that dip between the eyes is too extreme... again lending to the "eyes are too close together feeling. Also, the upper part of the eye isn't as far out as the bottom... mm... this is going to be the hardest part to fix, I think. The upper lip needs to roll out just a bit more, and should probably be enlarged just a touch... which will likely be easier on my senses when I fix the nose. Ears, I now... I'm working on figuring out a way to get them to stand out from the head just a bit... I might end up using my epoxy resin to make a bit of a frame (aiming for pointies..) ... s/he's a bit featureless at the moment... A good start, but sort of... mask like.... at the moment.
Wow, looking good so far. I'd agree, the eyes look either too big or too close together. As for the nose, I think you're probably spot on again, needs to be a bit longer. Defenately a good start.
The eyes are kinda close together, but I don't think they're too big at all. You could probably get away with adding a little bit of clay to the inside edge of the eyes to give them a bit more space, but not too much. I think the shape of the head is lovely and the features seem to be pretty well balanced. I think she's very pretty. You obviously have an eye for this work, and you know what you want. Since you have the skill to do it- you'll get there
Oooh, she's pretty and very smooth! XD I think you're right - if you widen her nose and make the top of the nose higher, it will help reduce the closeness of the eyes. She has a reall cute nose, though. ^_^
<G> they're a little bigger than I wanted, and that was exactly what I had in mind to fix them, when I get my new eyes in to build on. it's not going to take much to fix it, ultimately. I'm glad you like it. I was actually going for a boy, initially... but it started taking on a mind of it's own pretty early on... and I just kind of went with it. I think he/she will be quiet lovely in the end, though. ^^'
I'm obessive... I don't get far in my sculpting without sanding everything smooth and into a semblance of where I want it to get to...Fortuantely, the ball of the head nestles just perfectly in my palm, so with a course sandpaper I can work on wearing it down into proper shape.. I've started a new one, and I haven't gotten much sanding in at all... it's driving me nuts, but it was too wet to sand last night. I've finished building up the skull cap on this one.. probably as much as I dare. I reshaped the lips slightly, as well... all these changes were too miniscule to really photograph right now, though. When my new tools get in, I hope to finish this lovely up. Maybe I'll get around to a body at some point.
Here I thought I was the only OCD sander out there I have to do the same thing for Oberon's eyes. Once you have the essentials in place, like you do, it's pretty easy to make those miniscule corrections. Or at least that's what I'm hoping I know what you mean about things taking on a mind of their own. I think that's why I put Oberon aside for so long. He got too bossy and I lost the plot on what I was doing. Demanded a sex change from you? Wow. That is a mind of its own
Well, it's still in a process of evolution. Making the nose longer, and it's looking a little more masculine... a little.. As is, I think it could make a decent head for either a particularly pretty guy, or a fairly somber girls. And yeah, ocd sander... I've been building up the skullcap, and I've done as much as I'm going to bother... however, all it has, at the moment, is a 360 grain sanding, so it's kind of rough, and my poor senses are going. ".. 500... I need my 500....then 1000..."
Well, it's probably difficult to tell, but this is actually quite different from the past post on this doll. After a lot of studying of the face, I realized it was waaaay of... part of why I couldn't get the eyes to seem even, no matter how many times I redid them. And the features were slanting across the face in an unfixable manner. So... unfortunately all those features had to go. I shaved off the nose and lips, and filled in the eyes, (not just the lids, but the actual grooves I'd shaped for them). Then, after it'd had a chance to dry, I went about my business of replacing them. I'm quite pleased with the results, if I do say so. The lips still need a bit of work, they aren't as even as I'd like, and the eyes have had a slight bit of reshaping since these photos were taken. They fit an 18mm eye, and that's probably about it. The gooves aren't big enough for anything else, and I'm not sure the head could take bigger groves very well. I should have put the eyes in, you could see how wide they are... I rather like the look, but I might close them up slightly. I'll let you know when I make up my mind... The doll isn't perfectly symmetrical. I'm trying, but I don't think it's even going to be 'close'. Probably as close as I can get, lacking mechanical type callipurs. I've decided I don't care. Nothing I like has ever been "perfect", anyway.
WOW! You did change it. It went from looking soft and feminine to looking masculine with almost Byzantine features (especially the eyes). This one looks great to me too. The real question is are you still having fun?
Deffinately. If it wasn't I wouldn't keep buying this stuff I gave the apoxy sculpt a try.. I think that for me, mostly, it'll be useful for filling in little cracks and such... Like with the scullcap... the AS can get into the crack much easier than La Doll. I need another layer, but I hope to make that gap almost non-existant. A lot of work went into the nose and lips last night, and I plan to put some more into the top lip tonight. Assuming I can move my arms (new work out regime..) Heh. yes, sill having fun. I have no idea how it's even going to look when I'm done. I also measured and drilled holes last night, to help with setting the ears. I need to order some better styrofoam, and make a better torso armature. >_< I'm out, and what I've got isn't going to work.
Why, thank you. ^^' He's changed a bit over the last couple days.. lips and nose have been a little better defined, he has ears now (well, he has the beginning of what I want for ears...I want points, and that is probably what will be worked on tonight...). The eyes have been closed in a bit, and one is showing a more promising shape... Once I get it figure out, I'll press the other one into matching it. They can now hold up to a 20mm eye, but the 18 no longer looks too small. blah, i'm babbling, sorry.
