Need Assistance with DuoDuo Headcap!

Mar 25, 2022

    1. Hello All,

I believe some face-up sealant (I used both Liquitex Matte Medium and Varnish, fyi) may have gotten into the headcap seam of my Doll Family-A DuoDuo, because the little guy’s head just won’t open back up for me! Does anybody know of a good way to loosen the cap back up again? His eyes have gone all wonky, and I don’t want to leave the poor deer like that (pun intended). :sweat

    2. Hey! This has happened to me before. Have you tried rubbing alcohol around the rim/seam? You might be able to get the end of a paper clip in the seam and jimmy it open too.

Liquidtex Matte Medium/Varnish can be a pain to remove if you've used it undiluted or applied it too heavily.

    3. If you're able to do so, you could try wedging something like a credit card or object with a thin enough edge to fit into the crack and try to either pry the two pieces apart, or break the seal created by the sealant between the two parts. A mini ice scraper or plastic exacto blade would be good examples of what you could use. It would save you from damaging the faceup with a chemical solvent, and if you're careful, can separate the two parts while un'gluing' the sealant.

I wish you luck in getting the headcap off:kitty1

    4. Update: thank you for the advice, everyone! I’ll definitely be a lot more careful next time with my sealant application. :XD: Probably will just keep the cap off the head entirely while doing the face-up to avoid this.

I tried the credit card solution, but eventually had to resort to a very brief soak in low-percentage isopropyl alcohol to get the gunk loose enough. Which was fine in this case, since I happened to be cleaning off the face-up in preparation for a new one anyway.
