Payment Need Advice (PayPal)

Nov 20, 2011

    1. Hi, I just need some advice on what I should do. Here's my situation:
      (Please note that I'm fully aware that it's my fault.)

      Before I placed a long list of order, I asked a bunch of questions (via e-mail) to Dollmore's e-mail and they were great at answering 'em. So, no problem with that. My mom also offered to pay for my first BJD using her credit card (Paypal).

      When I placed my order on 9th November 2011 (the total cost of it is $1426), I paid immediately (through Paypal). But it turns out, a problem occured within my family. It turns out my mom said it was too expensive. So, my mom asked to stop the transaction so my mom asked my sister to file for "unauthorized transaction" (the Paypal account belongs to my sister but the credit card belongs to my mom) on the same day of the payment.

      I told Dollmore (via Q&A board) about it and Jee said to resolve the Paypal thing first. And so, I did. The money was refunded a few days later. So, the case was solved and I told Dollmore about it. Btw, I also got a message from Dollmore (on 15th November 2011) stating my order was cancelled.

      Anyways, I told Dollmore about it. Here's my message to Dollmore and the replies (via Q&A board).
      I was charged $60 (see reasons from the screenshot message below).

      Read from the bottom to the top.

      So far, they haven't replied my message. They replied to everyone else's except mine.
      I think it's because my message was already at the second page? Honestly, I just don't know.

      After I told my mom about it, she said the money that was refunded didn't actually went through the transaction because I filed for unauthorized transaction. (Even my sister's order on Amazon couldn't go through because of it.) So, this is when I started to feel wary. This is because my mom called the bank to confirm it too.

      What should I do? Why are they actually charging me $60? Is it for the re-stock fee (but the transaction didn't even go through)?

      Please help! I need some advice on this problem.
      I'm just so confused! T___T

      PS: I know Dollmore has great feedback (I checked the feedback thread on them). This experience has definitely traumatize me, a little bit...

    2. I can't tell for paypal,i'm located in EU and the paypal rules are just different,so i don't know how much it will take from paypal to get back the money to your mom credit card ^^"
      But on the other side: DollMore said that is fine to add on your next order the $60usd,i guess that are the fee that paypal charged on them for the intial transactionrefunds.
      The next time better for your mom to be sure when she's using her cc for a bjd order,then again maybe the best was to cancel the transaction in agreement with DollMore..maybe the file for unauthorized transaction wasn't really the best choice..at least this what i think..^^"

    3. @$abbatha: Yeah, I think filing the unauthorized transaction wasn't a good idea either. I wished my mom and sis told me about it before they did anything. Then, I could've settle it with Dollmore instead. >< I don't mind paying up the $60 (for Idk what reason, honestly) but my mom's been asking me so many questions about it to the point where I can't even answer her anymore. ><

      I just wanna re-order and settle everything as soon as possible... D:

    4. Er...To be honest, you've kind of put Dollmore in a really tough corner with your combined actions. "Unauthorized Transaction" in particular was a really really bad idea. It would have been best just to contact Jee, cancel the order and ask for a refund. It's not a reason to be traumatized, Jee is very understanding and helpful. Just consider your own actions the next time you place a large order. :S

      To my understanding, they were charged $60 for no reason for a customer that detracted an order over 1k. Understandably, Dollmore would like you to pay back that fee, all things considered you have declared this your own fault, so they are asking that you repay them.

      I don't understand what you're trying to do though. Are you re-ordering even though your mom said you couldn't?

    5. @Laelen: Yeah, I wanna re-order but with less stuff (and slightly). And no, my mom is just asking why must we pay $60 even if the transaction didn't go through.

    6. Ok,now to me it's more clear:
      try to say to your mom that as penalty for the cancelled transaction you or her need to pay for the re-stocking fee,or tell her that is the penalty for the cancelled transaction,this maybe will help her to calm down a bit.
      Then again your sis and mom they rushed to cancel the order and maybe better for them to settle things with you as first thing.
      The last suggestion i can give is to create your own paypal account,using maybe a revolving credit card,it's the best solution..go figure out that me and my twin sister are both here on doa and we keep separate paypal account and we do own different credit card,good luck :)

    7. @$abbatha: Thank for the suggestion! I'll try to explain it to her that way and see what happens. <3 Unfortunately, I'm not old enough to own a credit card yet. >< Can't wait to turn 21, officially. XD;

    8. Ah. I don't think it was a restocking fee; I've never heard of Dollmore having anything like that 8S but I could be wrong.

      My hunch is that it is a fee for paypal to revert the money to your account and to investigate the "unauthorized transaction". To put it plainly, the fees are what you pay for paypal's services, which include protection etc.. When you put in an "unauthorized transaction" ticket to paypal, Dollmore had to pay $60 out of their own pocket to cover the cost of paypal wiring the money back to you. The transaction 'not going through' doesn't have anything to do with it. It's the legwork which paypal has to do to give you back your money.

      Because you have declared yourself at fault, Dollmore wants you to reimburse them for the fee that they paid for no reason; it isn't their fault that you suddenly cancelled the transaction and furthermore they were charged for it. This is why they'd like you to pay back that $60 fee.

      That's just my understanding of it :V...

    9. @Laelen: Ah, I think I get it now. >< Well, your explanation definitely helped me cause I wasn't sure of Paypal. Thanks! ^^

    10. I hope your mom is aware that filing an "unauthorized transaction" while the transaction was authorised is committing fraud and is damaging for the other party (in this case Dollmore), because it accuses them of trying to steal money. This has caused Dollmore problems while they were not at fault and your mother should be more understanding towards the costs she has caused because Paypal will launch an investigation when something as serious as an "unauthorized transaction" is filed (possibly freezing the investigated account, which bars Dollmore from accepting payments and thus orders. Unfreezing an account may also come with fees).
      I hope your mother understands that there are better ways to cancel a transaction and get a refund.

      Also, when someone sends you payment through Paypal, you get it through Paypal, no matter whether the bank of the CC the money eventually will be paid with has already charged the CC or not. Dollmore had to pay Paypal to refund that money to Paypal so that Paypal could cancel the transaction. It doesn't matter that your mother claims the transaction didn't go through to the credit card. Money had already been transferred from Paypal to Dollmore and that money would eventually be charged on the CC had the transaction not been cancelled. That's why Dollmore had to pay Paypal a refund fee.

    11. @Muisje: Thanks for replying! I'll try to explain it to her as best as I can. I know I won't be repeating the same mistakes ever... again! ><

    12. Also, I would suggest changing the title of this thread. Im was just random reading some titles and for a second thought there was just another company that was in trouble and almost came to the conclusion, ok not to buy there anymore either. Luckily i read the story, only to find out the truth. A lot of people might read just the title of your post and this will give DM bad publicity.

    13. @cyberspacegirl: Um, how do you change the thread title? ><;

    14. In your first post, to the left of the reply button you will find the edit button. Press button, now you will get three new buttons, save, go advanced, cancel. Press go advanced and you can change the title.

    15. Ah, thanks! ^^;
