NaNoWriMo 2017!

Oct 26, 2017

    1. @Mayhem Oh no! That's horrible :(
I hate when something like that happens.

    2. Aww thanks for your concern, everyone! Tonight did not go as well as planned, but I'm still typing along!

@SteamWitch At least something good came of this...! :XD:

    3. I'm calling my night at 11,664... I was going to call it much earlier, but I really hate leaving in the middle of a scene, and the one I just did ended up going a bit longer than I thought it was going to. (And then the next scene was such a nice short one that just demanded to be written, too...)

    4. Good is good @Mayhem!
I''m at 9431 and happy about it. My fingers tend to run away with my words so I have to correct a lot of mistakes. I try to add them to my auto correct but still I manage to find new ways to screw up a word.
      Good for you @vicemage.
I'm hoping to continue tomorrow and get further along since I delivered the Legos. I did get to save a few for me and the boys to play with, you should see some of them in the pub scenes, when I get it back together.

    5. That's great @vicemage
I barely made 10051. I did not want to type today. The funny thing is I have a lot I want to get down, it was the getting down part that killed me. It might be this particular scene.....tomorrow I might break order again and write a different part(s)....or not. Who knows.

@SteamWitch uh, I hear that. My typing ability was crap tonight. I think I misspelled every word in one sentence. I think Nano permanently ruined my tying skills that one year I actually won. I could feel them dying as I was writing...

    6. Aaand I am back from my work trip. My laptop was not there for a while, and then the WiFi went out, and the work was really physically tiring so I always fell asleep early. That being said, I managed to squeeze in a few words a day typing on my phone in offline Google Docs. Here's hoping I can catch up before i have to leave again, because I am crazy behind.

    7. The daylight saving time did a reverse thing to me last night I went to sleep really early, usually I fall asleep late :yawn I did get some words down. I'm behind at 10.3K but hoping to catch up today.

@VampireAngel13 I usually wind up with multiple words all smashedtogetherlike this and when I go back to fix it boom my word count goes up.

    8. @SteamWitch - Daylight Savings always seems to play mind games with me, too. :sweat Hopefully your internal clock will get back to usual! Good luck writing!

    9. I'm behind too! I went to lunch yesterday with co-workers (lunch is when I usually start writing) and then saw Thor last night. I still got about 1K but I wasn't ahead....so now I'm really not ahead.

@SteamWitch lol those are like good typos then! My big thing is to add a space before the word is finished so the next word always starts with the last letter of the first word. Doesn't affect my word count and autocorrect can't figure out what I'm trying to type.

    10. Can you be technically ahead and still behind? I got less than 1k done yesterday, but indeed the say at 12.5k so I’m technically ahead. I wanted to be a day ahead so I could spend more of the time in back in my hometown with my girlfriend.

    11. Well technically I think if you add a sentence you are doing good, particularly if you are like me and haven't written much in 6 months or more. Getting 10K is like a miracle and I will gladly take it.
I'm am working on a scene while trying to restring an older Souloid. Why are there no s-hooks in this thing:doh, crud!!!! I had to cut the elastic :veinso to distract myself I am playing the scene over in my mind trying to make sure it is cohesive, also so I don't throw this doll across the room.:thumbup

    12. I think I am failing dramatically. I have all the problems piling up right now - the one and only person who helps me with the story irl is having problems with his family life and fitting our relationship in. I really can't take his wife thinking I am a family breaker so I just said to my long-term reader, "you go, I can try to settle things down without you too."

He was always the best to get ideas with. Maybe I'll manage to do the rest 40k on Christmas. Can one pause NaNo? Lol.

    13. Considering that I started the one I'm working on in 2014, I say yes you can, @vauhtikatti. Sometimes life just gets in the way.

    14. This

resulted in only 600 words last night. noo boo! hiss! :frownyblush::sweat:sigh
But it was fun :fangirl:digging through all the MSD clothing to find something to put on him. The tattoo sleeve from last Halloween made great tights, so they are his 'skin' over the mechanical parts. :sumomo:

I'm going to be writing today.

    15. I don't see the harm in pausing! I mean, I feel like most of the point of Nanowrimo is to get people to write. If you do it outside of November, you're still writing? So it should count.

I think it's cool you have someone you can share your writing with!

@SteamWitch lol your dolls are becoming a bigger distraction from writing than my cats XD

I wish I had a more fun way of not writing. I just have work. I managed about 1K yesterday, but I'm still 2500 behind. So. We'll see what happens. I'm off tomorrow, so in theory I'd have all this time to myself to write. Or. I will have all this time to myself to procrastinate and do everything but write. EDIT I just found out my internet is down and they aren't coming until like, 1pm!! Looks like I will have no excuse now.

At least it'll be too cold for faceups. I must be insane for even saying that.....

    16. Hah... I'm only at a little over 8k words. I haven't written in two days due to being ridiculously tired. I'm hoping to rev myself back up starting today though.

    17. Wellll I finally hat a productive day, and am back ahead by a day. 16671 exactly, if memory serves, so I might still get a day off when I’m home. I can dream...

    18. Wow, big writing day for me over 2K words. I'm at 13.1K total. Dakota's story has churned my imagination, I wish I didn't have to go back and make so many corrections. I definitely used to type better than I do now or my laptop has a screwy keyboard. Hope everyone had a productive day. Mine was wonderful and I even took some photos of two spoiled boys Kise and Taran.
Don't know if I'll write more since I have some time left before I fall asleep. I'm going to lurk m watched pages for a few minutes. TTFN.

    19. I'm stumbling into this thread several days late, but hello! I'm also doing Nano this year!

Life made me take a hiatus from writing in general for almost four years, and this August I sat down to try and see if I could get something out. Now here I am, 30k words later?!? I'd love to be able to hit 50k in time for Nano's end but we'll see...

Wishing everyone else the best of luck on their stories, too!

    20. Welocme @Youzen
I have been writing today but not a lot. Not even 1k yet but I'm still trudging along.

    21. Today's been a slow writing day for me too - unexpected social things have made it hard to concentrate on where I need to be in the story. At least I hit 30k yesterday, so I'm not behind...I just don't want to lose momentum!

    22. My general state of exhaustion did its periodic game of catching up to me today, and I fell asleep on the couch for a while (with two kittens, so it was impossible to get up). Thankfully I was far enough ahead that my meager 453 words for today got me up to the daily par. I've got a busy day tomorrow, but hopefully I can still get back to being ahead of the game over the weekend.

@Rakonto, 30k is impressive! That's definitely double what I've gotten so far for the year. :D

And I just noticed the date, it's day 10, which means I get to check my total length, since this is my third year on this same story...

    23. @vicemage - This is my first year doing something that's not the same story (my first three years I worked on one, my second three years another, and neither of them is anywhere near done). I guess I'm trying to just make myself finish something. xD;;

Hope your weekend gives you time to write! <3

    24. If I'm just going off my word count on all creative fiction, I've hit 50,000 words. Unfortunately... not very many of them, comparatively, have been on the novel I'm supposed to be completing.

    25. Thanks! Unfortunately, yesterday was kind of a wash (which I kind of expected). Though I am going to take it as a mini-win that I got 464 words on a tablet with no keyboard while actively paying attention to the meeting I was in all afternoon. *_* I'm going to try to get some catchup done today, though I also have to take care of all the household stuff that got neglected thanks to the same long meeting. (Seriously, I left here about 12:30 PM, and between the meeting and my usual Saturday game night, I didn't get home until about 12:30 AM! And that was after giving my morning over to a couple of shopping trips that couldn't wait until today.)

2559 words left to go today if I want to regain par by bedtime...

    26. Yikes! Meetings are tedious at the best of times, but worse if you're itching to write. It's amazing that you got any words in at all with a day like that! Hopefully today you can get done with your household stuff quickly and get to write.

      Speaking of household stuff, I'd better go do some laundry. ^_^;;

    27. Ahhhh! I feel good that I got to 17.7k today. I'm still behind but yesterday's 300 word count was pitiful but at least I put words on paper. I am also getting to know my characters better which is, to me, the greatest part of writing about OCs.
Don't know if I'll get any more words down tonight, but you never know.

      • x 1
    28. I'd have to agree that getting to know my characters better is definitely one of my favorite parts of this. ^_^

    29. Fortunately, my weekend meetings are generally better than my weekday work meetings. :) I volunteer with two local conventions; the smaller one was just last month, so this weekend was the lengthy board elections and post mortem meeting. I honestly don't know how long it lasted, since my department head finally asked if we could go next, as I had to get home and feed the cats before going back out for gaming. (And I'm his ride to and from the meeting.) I generally like to hear and be involved in all the feedback at the big con, but this was my first year with and at the small one and all I did was stuff for my department. Maybe next year!

I've been getting a few words out here and there today, but I'm on a stickier part of the story, too, so it's just not flowing out as nicely... fortunately, I'm at least out of the section I didn't dare work on at work. :eusa_sile

      • x 1
    30. Oh wow, that sounds spiffy! The only con I ever helped out with was my college's role-playing guild's annual convention (which was very small) - one large enough to have departments must be huge! I hope you had fun gaming. :3

And same, as my characters are...literally lost in the woods. xD;; I definitely should have planned this part out better. And haha, true, some parts are definitely, err, trickier to work on out in public. I've attended a couple of write-ins for the first time, and I've found them really hard to write at (I'm super easily distracted, whoops).

    31. It's a ton of fun helping out with these ones. They're both anime conventions; the one in the spring is the first and biggest one in the area, where I've been on staff for several years now, and then there's the little fall one that was sort of spun off by a bunch of the staff at the big one, to have a laid-back smaller convention for people to attend. I got pulled onto staff kind of last minute this year, and hadn't ever even actually attended it before, but it was a blast. Plus, I'm on two wildly different departments, which is pretty awesome, too! (At the little one I'm the backstage manager for the cosplay contest; at the big one... well, we're reorganizing my department a bit, so I can't quite say at the moment what I'll be doing in the future, but in the past I did overnight info desk/communications stuff.)

I'm stuck in a part where one of the characters needs to come up with a fake rumor that will get another one to come back from where he's hiding out, and I need to find the best way to get another one back in to address something that I kind of forgot to put into the story earlier (but I think I can use her to work around that and make it look like it was on purpose).

    32. Sounds like a lot of work but a ton of fun! That's really nice of you to volunteer your time to make sure everything goes smoothly and everyone has a blast. :3

And that does sound sticky but quite intriguing! Good luck weaving everything in. ^_^

    33. It really takes a surprising number of people to make a convention run. At the big con, my old department was 14 people (reorganized one TBD); the smaller one, I think officially there's 3 of us in the department, but it's 6 to run the show counting the tech guy who runs the light and sound boards. And both are 100% volunteer run--we don't even get free admission to the event and have to register like everyone else! But man, it's so much fun helping to run it so people can come have a great time for three days, I wouldn't give it up for anything. (Heck, I even agreed to stay with the small one after coming in to fill a role at the last minute.)

I may have bought myself time with the rumor part by switching scenes, so now it's just weaving in that other character who needs to reappear. She's been waiting too long, I think she's going to be mad. ;)

    34. *whistles* That super impressive - good job you guys. <3

Haha, it might seem long to you writing-wise, but perhaps it wasn't too long in terms of your overarching story, so maybe she'll forgive you. xD

    35. Oh no. She's been left in the dark for about two weeks in story time. She's not a happy mama bear. :)

    36. Oh dear. In that case, I can imagine not. xD

    37. Her "kids" are in for it soon. Which should be a lot of fun to write and will hopefully kick me back to par. :)

    38. Haha, oh dear, that sounds like it will be a lot of drama. xD

    39. I am now so far behind I should just throw in the towel!!

    40. Same. I haven't even really been trying to catch up. But I kind of like it. I have a bunch of sources of stress right now, so I've just decided to use this story as a means to relax. And I have been writing every day technically, save yesterday, sigh. That's the most I've done in a while. So even if you can't catch up, I think you should keep writing. It's more than you started with.

      • x 2
    41. Whatever amount you write is still a victory because at least you're writing and making some progress!

      • x 1
    42. I actually thought this as soon as I posted! I won't make it to 50k but I can keep going.
After not writing anything all weekend I might have some new ideas anyway.

This is why I'm happy I have this thread to hang out in <3

      • x 3
    43. Me too. Just getting few words written in a hard to describe scene, made me jump into another 'easier' to write scene and I can't wait to develop it even more. I'll slog through another line or two in that hard to describe scene and hope that one word or phrase will pop the cork, so to speak, and let the words rush out.

Edit: I made it over 20K tonight. :dance:thumbup

    44. Congrats, @SteamWitch!

I just pushed past 20K tonight, too, so as long as I can figure out how best to start the next chapter, I think I might be back on track... of course, I'll be back at a meeting again tomorrow, but hopefully I can get some writing in at work before that.

    45. I'm feeling like I might actually get to the end of a story this NaNo (instead of my usual hit 50k and am still nowhere near a conclusion). Not that it's a brilliant story or anything, but it's still something, and it's been helping me get to know the characters my dolls embody better. ^_^

      • x 1
    46. I'm hoping for the same, @Rakonto! I'll cheer you on to that goal!

Today was pretty much a wash for me, between a long evening meeting and an RSI flare up. I've got elastic braces in my bag for tomorrow, and I'm about to splint my hands for the night, so hopefully I can type tomorrow.

    47. Thanks, @vicemage! I hope you can type tomorrow - that sounds like a major pain in more ways than one. :c

      • x 1
    48. Yikes @vicemage I hope the flare up doesn't last long. My typing is getting so bad I'm thinking about getting a speak and spell LOL (old, old, joke, like me ;))

I made 21.2K lst night still behind but at least I'm not falling that far behind. I am having fun with the banter between the characters. Some are developing a bit differently than I would have thought at first but they are still within their character's bounds.
This is exercise is very enjoyable.

    49. I’m back home, and I love it so much I’m actually considering taking all my uni courses here, even though I swore in twelfth grade that I wouldn’t... that said, I’m so behind and have such bad writer’s block, I’m considering forfeiting NaNo even though this would lose me my longest streak ever...

    50. @Chameleon, keep going with the rest of us, and even if you don't make the deadline, you've still written something!

@Rakonto and @SteamWitch, thanks. The splints last night and keeping them wrapped most of the day today has been a big help. I'm blaming the weather, since it's been really erratic around here lately. We could feel the temperature dropping at work when we went across the street to the mall around midday... I'm not wearing either at the moment, but I'm about to head to bed and splint up again, and hope for the best.

And in spite of Google Docs sort of failing on me at work (it lost connection, and I lost about a half-dozen words or so in the process), I did manage to kick myself back up a bit. I'm still way behind, but not hopelessly so yet.

    51. *does my introverted best to cheer everyone on* I mean, if we can make it halfway through the month, we can do the rest, right?

      • x 1
    52. @vicemage yeaaaah... I’ll give it a whirl and see if I can come close to catching up.

      • x 1
    53. Ooo, I didn't know we had a thread for this. I'm working on my third book for NaNo this year. My first book is on Amazon, and my second book is taking a breather before I get back to it (It's a horrible mess). All of the books I plan to write have my doll characters involved, and the third book is all about Alinash, Sorias, and Ruby.

I just hit 35k yesterday at the halfway point, and I'm hoping to finish 50k by Thanksgiving so I can have wine with my turkey. I'm guessing the book will end up being around 55k when I'm done with it.

      • x 2
    54. 50k achieved! Not much of a story, but it does have a beginning, a middle, and an end, if you squint at it. Now to motivate myself to keep writing...something...the rest of the month. Or perhaps I'll try to work on editing this monstrosity instead...

      • x 1
    55. I made it over 25K yesterday. It was a tiny bit of cheating since part of what I did was adding and editing a portion of the story I'd written before. But I wrote it and now it makes sense where before it didn't.

      • x 2
    56. Oh my god. The word sprints were real. But as a plus I caught up, and then some... this means I can take a bit of time off to work on my papers that are both due this month...

      • x 2
    57. Man, not much activity over here. I am still behind but trying to write just a bit every day. I missed updating yesterday, but I was able to back date my measly 300 words.I'm not doing much better so far today with writing. Got a bunch of other things done, but I'm going to work on it now that I'm settled for the evening. It's going to get cold tonight and that helps me write for some reason.

    58. I think I'm in about the same camp, @SteamWitch. I got about 250 words in yesterday before admitting to myself that I was worn out and just needed to go to bed instead of staring at the computer finding any excuse to not write. Thankfully (hah!), I don't have work again until Monday, so I'll be taking my tablet to my friends' place tomorrow and doing some writing there, and doing some more writing here after I get a quick shower.

    59. Oh boy, after three days of drought I've finally made it to 37K. I'm happy with what I have done. Plus it's like a book of short stories of several of my OCs. I'm glad I've muddled through the drought and have come upon another short story to spark my imagination and fingers.
I added the fan fiction novel I finished in 2014 to my profile. Just because, lol.
