[Namonaki Workshop] Discussion

Nov 27, 2013

    1. At first I was all 'dang son what even is there to discuss' - but then my pupils dilated and I looked to the stars and I whispered 'what isn't there to discuss. . . . . . . '

But seriously; questions, comments, assorted pictographic miscellany - discuss away!

    2. I'm really impressed with the detail. I find the prospect of owning a middle aged man doll tantalizing. Unfortunately 1/3 scale is too big. I don't have room for a doll of that size in my tiny military barrack like dorm room. Still maybe smaller models will come out in the future? I'm really looking forward to seeing what else these guys can produce. Maybe a middle aged woman? More men? I'm pretty excited so far.

    3. it's cillian murphy and mads mikkelson?! so bizarre! they really are the spitting image.

    4. Wow! The heads look really incredible!
      Definitly a well-done job in sculpting <3
      Gratulations -^^-

    5. @tuna-chan
I was thinking the exact same thing! xD

The sculpts are very interesting and different, I like them.
      Awesome job. :)

    6. I kind of like him, and I'm excited for the prospect of finally getting some older sculpts! I've still got one character to shell, and this is the closest I've found yet, but I'm not sure if he's exactly the face I'm looking for. I might decide to go for it just to see how it works out, but I'm not sure how big the Soom SG bodies are. If the heads will look silly on a 60-63cm body, then it won't work for me, unfortunately. All the mature guys around are on the super-tall bodies, which makes me sad ;_;

    7. Really like these sculpts a lot. Which body would be best? Would there be a good resin match with any company?

    8. Thank you for all the kind words! Debating changing the title of this thread to 'discussion and middle-aged men fan club', lol.

StacheRabbit - We're currently working on a 47cm male, and we have WIPs of him kind of haphazardly around our facebook page. But compared to a standard MSD, he's more like a small SD - his body is very big and bulky. YMMV? We don't have current plans for anything smaller than that, and whether or not we create some female sculpts will depend on the success of Mikkel and Murph.

Edtel - Regrettably, I only have larger males in my collection so I would not be able to give you any input on how the heads would look on a 60cm~63cm body. But, the Soom SG body is 65cm. Mikkel is a smaller head at 7''~8'' around, so in theory he'd work out well enough - but Murph is a little larger at 8''~9'' and putting him on a smaller body might make him look unnervingly bobble-headed.

cyberspacegirl - 65cm~70cm bodies with a neck circumference of around 10.5cm would be ideal for these guys. Our Fleshtone matches Soom from 2010 and 2011 and Dollshe Oriental, our Pale Fleshtone matches Dollshe Fresh, and our White is stark paper white.

    9. Thanks PegasusxCroquet

Hm I have an OS Dollshe body...
      Are they cast by Dollshe?

    10. ugh i love Murph his eyes are so gentle he looks like a human version of a this humanoid alien character I have

    11. Finally there is a company to produce eldery BJDs. Are you gonna make elderly bodies in the future? (fat belly body or wrinkled hand parts maybe?) :)

    12. I loveee the idea of older heads and bodies... I've been looking for them for a while and the only other company who does it is Souldoll (to some extent)

    13. I'd love to see Murph and Mikkel with some face up and can't seem to find pics anywhere! Any owners willing to share some?

    14. The details on these dolls are so intricate x3 I'm fascinated by more realistic dolls ~

    15. I have been following you with great interest on DeviantArt. There is some excellent work coming out. Lots of character and a good likeness. Also liking the move towards realistic texture. A realistic sculpt benefits greatly from that.

But, middle aged? Cillian Murphy is only 37. *hobbles off on Zimmer frame*

      • x 1
    16. I knew instantly that was Cillian Murphy. No one else has that face. Amazing. [IMG]

    17. Thank you so much for the compliments, everyone!

We're really glad to hear the textured surface of our dolls is going over well - we were a little worried about how people would feel about it, but thought that, yep, a textured surface would lend itself better to the more realistic works we were hoping to produce.

Sadly we haven't seen any owner pictures of finished dolls that we can share. We're really hoping that changes some time soon! But in the meantime, we're working on getting some of our dolls finished up properly. \o/

    18. The only thing I'm worried about is the quality of the work with a faceup. Not all of this is due to texture. I'm going to critique this sculpt as I love it, but have a few concerns. This is coming from someone who sculpts dolls and does extensive mod work so I'm sensitive to sculpt perfection.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, especially as someone who hand sculpts it's really difficult to mimic companies like Iplehouse who use all computer generated symmetry for their sculpts. Symmetry is just more attractive to the human eye, and when we're talking dolls here. We like dolls because they're aesthetically pleasing to us.

This disambiguation of my sculpt assessing is really thorough.

This is just one for general symmetry I rotated the pic first off.

      A. Bottom lobe extends lower ( I also realized my line for the top ear isn't perfectly straight so the right ear may be a little smaller.

      B. the entire tip is off centered and uneven

      C. the chin shaping is uneven

      D. Right eye is much thinner and longer than left eye.

      E. Left nostril is higher, also the nose is slightly off center.

      1. The bottom of the lid that touches the eye directly is not smooth. This bothers me as this part is even in all humans

      2. this carved line hasn't been tended to properly and is jaggedy

      3. VERY uneven part of lid that touches eye (this is the part of the lid that touches itself when the eye is closed).

      4. There's a large dented area here (zoom to see or look at orig)

      5. When you indent into something soft like clay, with the indention you make, there's a part of the clay that is displaced on the ridges. This part of the clay has not been properly handled after this displacement has happened, wrinkles are usually rounded out on the sides on a human face.

The ear in all of the numbers here has a LOT of clay that was not cleaned properly and thus turned into resin chips as seen in 8 and 9, 9 appears to have this ridge that looks like a crack or fold. The ear also shows intentions that are too deep and not "texture" as seen in 6.

      7. Back of headcap needs fixing to be even.

      10. Very concerning to me, the eye does not properly rest in the channel as there is a gap between the channel and the lid.

If you look at side views of humans you can see the eye fully meets the lids, and that the area I mentioned is smooth even in older individuals. I would re-evaluate these areas if I were the sculptor on this project as I don't think they will take a faceup well or leave a good end result for an otherwise beautiful sculpt.

    19. I first saw Namonaki Workshop's heads on DA and The Joint and thought it would be very interesting to face-up such a realistic head, since I've already painted a lot of Minimees and other almost realistic sculpts. Murph's sculptor was also very eager to see one of his heads painted, so he gave me on of his junk heads for free to get creative on. Murph spent some weeks travelling and only arrived in Germany a couple of days ago. I gave him a face-up right away:

[IMG]Namonaki Workshop Murph by eviexm, on Flickr
This photo is taken in daylight and straight from my camera. No enhancements whatsoever.
I love how he turned out. He was great fun to paint. I smoothed the areas around the eyes an the lips a bit. The junk head has a strange color, so I blushed him quite a bit to look like a light tan. What I'm also trying to say is: I cannot answer any questions about color matching and such. :sweat

    20. evie the kid, congratulations, you did a fantastic job on this head! Realistic faceups always look good on minimees.
He is a completely original character!

I'd love to show my Mikkel as well - l've been a huge fan of Hannibal and mr. Fuller's amazing show from the start, so it was a complete surprize to see Namonaki Workshop sculpting Mads Mikkelsen! He turned out to be very recognizable and exquisite in detail, so I ordered him and tried to paint Mikkel as Doctor Lecter.

    21. Reya, thank you! Painting this head was fun, he is so very detailed. Such an interesting sculpt, I really want to make him into an original character. Hopefully I'll find a body to match his skin, but a "coffee" tan might just work.

Wow, your Mikkel looks cool, so very realistic. It's very interesting to see mature looking dolls in the community, as well. What body is he on?

    22. Evie, thanks a lot! Choosing a proper body for a hybrid is such pain all the time. +__+ It's even more difficult when it comes to tan heads, so good luck with your one!

This is a borrowed Volks SD17, not his actual body. I ordered an April Story body during the event - it looked quite mature among all else, and the neck isn't thin. It will come next week - hope it will be fine for Mikkel.

    23. I also just got a Murph head! *^____^* I'm going to create a "Tommy Shelby" from Peaky Blinders with this head. I got a 68cm. Mirodoll body for him.
I'll post progress pics when I have 'em. :)

    24. Resurrecting this thread by sharing my Murph - who finally has a body!

His name is Xaion Belcore and he is an old fashioned gentleman who is probably not quite human.^^

    25. Wow, aernath, you have Pacle! Another great sculpt. Any plans for his style? I like the SDGou body for him, but the DT 18 keeps impressing me …

    26. No name or style ideas until he gets a faceup. I've been kind of itching to get him done up, but now it's too cold, so it may be a while. He is a very nice head! I guess I will have to look at it as having the winter to decide his name and look. ;)

    27. Soooo I know the last post here was about five years ago, but surely at least people still have these beautiful heads! -does arcane ritual to try to bring the thread back from the dead-
I need to find a body for the Mikkel 2.0 head I just snagged second hand. I saw all the good body pics @aernath had done years ago, but unfortunately the Dollstown body seems to have changed its neck size twice since then. Sooo any help would be appreciated. I figure 16.5 cm shoulder width would work well overall, and I can mod some if neck size isn't quite right. . . maybe the Ringdoll RGM-3 would work with a little neck sanding? Thoughts? -watches the tumbleweeds drift past-
      Anyone?

    28. @TatterPunk
Hey! I have the first version of Mikkel (with the sculpted wrinkles). I don't have any Ringdoll bodies, but I could possibly try mine on some of the bodies around here? I still haven't found a body for mine, but I've been kinda picky lol. When he first arrived, I tried him on my Dollshe Pure body since that was going to be his, but my Aramis got to keep it cause the neck was too long for Mikkel imo (and I fell in love with the Aramis lmao).

Here's a not great pic of him dressed (for a Halloween meet lol). One day he'll have a proper wig and...well, everything else lol. He's hard to fit things (so, I could also try some eyes/wigs too if you need? I don't know how many differences the 2.0 has from mine, or if it's just that the sculpt was smoothed out)
And a pic when I first put him on the body to try it. He's Pale Fleshtone and the body is Fresh. (pic is from 2014, I got Mikkel in February that year and the Aramis in August and they were a very good color match)

    29. A magical try-on post would be wonderful. Whatever bodies you've got! Also Eyes are definitely a concern. Most of what I have right now for bigger dolls is 12mm small iris (I think 5mm iris). Wigs aren't a problem for me since I usually make my own, though it'd be nice to see other options for if I am lazy to begin with. . I have a little wait ahead of me, so hopefully I can get enough information gathered to get him a little trousseau together.
Your Hannibal is absolutely lovely <3 <3 <3 I love hiiim.

    30. I'll try to get some pics this weekend <3
Making your own wig for him will probably be your best bet, to be honest. A lot of wigs have too much hair for his face, since his features are small compared to most BJDs. If you'd also like to see pics of him next to some other dolls, feel free to poke around my profile and let me know. ^^
Thank you so much ;; <3 Poor guy has been a major work in progress for so long. Hopefully I can get him a body soon, he has suit fabric that's been waiting for him for years lol

    31. You are wonderful <3 I'd love to see his head next to any ladies you might have, and next to LLT Roderick . . and Aramis, V-07, and Agent Mads. . .I'm a little jealous of the Mads portion of your Doll List (namely cause of V-07) I am working on attempting to ammass a Mads Army as well, but I got started later than would have been convenient.
My Mikkel is going to be a dollmaker and alchemist named Dr. Wather Madsen. Not sure if he'll be modern or more neo victorian or what sort of fashion world. Possibly a mixture of many just so I can make menswear that doesn't make me want to pull my eyes out from prescise tailoring.

    32. Always happy to help ^^ Will do! I don't have many ladies, but I'll see if I can borrow some of the girls in the house. I hope you can complete your Mads Army one day! I honestly got lucky being able to get all of mine, but am beyond happy to have them...even if trying to find bodies has been a pain. (my V-07 has a kinda intense faceup, so hopefully it won't be too distracting. He's a Skyrim OC lmao. Oh, lemme know if you'd like to see the Granado boys on bodies. I can just do a head swap day lol)
That sounds so cool though. I'm excited to see him when you get him/have him complete! Having many different styles for him sounds like fun. Mads is a very versatile actor and I think sculpts based on him can work with a lot of looks too :'D

    33. I would love to see the Agent Mads head on other bodies (though that might be better discussed in the Granado thread) I have one coming at some point cause Clover Singing managed to get them to make one last one. I've seen your V-07, I don't think the faceup should be too distracting since I'll be focusing on the actual archetecture of the head.
I'm planning to have Mikkel paired up with a Supia Juah, which may end up a bit odd with her being slightly less hyperrealistic, but she's going to be a living doll anyway, so that works.
My thought on bodies is that the chest needs to be sufficiently broad to make his head not look overly huge. Not sure how many heads wide, but from what I've seen, the ones where the chest is thinner look a little wonky to me. Obviously shoulder width works along with this. . . and he has to look extra nice from the back while cooking people. . . I mean. . cooking food. . yes. Currently I'm leaning towards trying to get a RD RGM-3 still, since the Dollstown bodies are kinda expensive to still have to mod the neck on. (not that the Ringdoll ones are that much less, but there's about a hundred dollars difference at least). If you have anything with an 11.5 inch neck so I can see how much modding I'd have to do on there that would help too. I'll also have a Mystic body for my Granado Uriel head, so I'll be able to do at least a little head showing too when I get Mikkel's head in (in three months or however long the post from Russia takes).

    34. I'll get some and put them in the Granado photo reference thread. Congrats on being able to get one! To be honest, I'm actually the reason he ended up on the Clover Singing site lmao. That's good at least, I'm glad he won't be too distracting. ^^
Oooh, that sounds like an interesting pair. Don't have any Supia girls, but if you give me her head size, I can try to get photos of him with girls that have similar sized heads.
That's very true. Mads is a broad man, so I definitely agree. And he must look good while cooking 'food' lol. I'll check if any of my bodies have that neck size. I know I've got 10.5 and 12, but not sure about 11.5 (I honestly forget the measurements sometimes, too). I'll try to remember to include the neck measurements when I post the pictures. I would definitely love to see how he looks on the Mystic body, though. Doubt the Dollshe boys I'm waiting on will arrive before your Mikkel, with how long Dollshe takes... (I hope your Mikkel doesn't take that long, though ;; )

To stay more on topic, I do have a picture of him with more visible eyes (he's wearing ridiculously large silicone ones in the previous picture, wanted to make him creepier for Halloween). I can't remember what size these are, but I'll measure them when I take pics (I'll try to include iris measurements with the pictures, too)

    35. Aaaaaaaa he's so handsome -swoon-
I will definitely get some pics with the Mystic body. I got one second hand, so he'll be here before any of the 10 dollshes I'm waiting for probably -weeps cause that number isn't an exaggeration at all- I will also of course get a hilarious photo of him on my 26f body too, because I am a goof like that.
I'm hoping the 12mm eyes work well, though I can easily order some smaller (or unlikely this'll be needed) bigger ones if need be. I'm currently waiting for some Soul in a Box eyes to get in also, and I'd love those to work for him. I NEED ALL THE EYES 0___0.
12 cm neck is fine to see him on too please.

    36. Thank you so much ;; I actually plan to repaint him, but figured I'd just wait til he has his own body lol
Awesome! And that's quite a lot of Dollshes, but they are pretty addicting lol. omg yes please. I'd love to see him on the 26f body XD
Small iris 12mm eyes would probably work (I only have small iris 14s, sadly). The ones I posted before turned out to be 8mm...so small, but the iris still looks too large imo
I need to measure my eyes, but I did get a bunch of pictures. Still need to get them off my phone and resize them. I'm thinking maybe I should just make a post for them in Photo Reference, so everything won't have to be links? (due to the discussion thread one pic limit) Maybe someone else might find the info useful too? o:

    37. Yeah, a photo reference post would be good. Even if we're the only people who use it lol.
Interesting about the 8mm. When I get him I can try my smollshe (fashion dollshe lol) eyes in him too. I have some 7's and 8's with smol irises. 10 with extra small iris might be where it's at for him though to avoid any possible gapping and the like. . . Which is totally okay since I should be able to get those made just fine.
I really am looking forward to painting him when he gets here, and hopefully I'll be able to at LEAST get a plan for his body by then. I wonder how long the wait for Dollstown is right now. . .

Edit: I just snagged a Dollzone B70-004 body I'm gonna try on him when he gets here. Obviously he's gonna be a bit cause ground/sea mail transport and things, but at least I'll have the Dollshe Mystic and the Dollzone bodies available by then to possibly work with him! And to add to the body comparison option list.

    38. I'll do that then. Finally got the pics resized, just trying to get them uploaded now (I have a rather slow connection orz)
Yeah, the 8mm has some noticeable gaps. Which might not be too bad if they're filled in with white eye putty, but prob not good for long term. I am curious how those really small eyes fit, though, so looking forward to being able to see that. Where did you get your smollshe eyes? I need to get some eventually lol
Looking forward to how you paint him! And I imagine you'll have an easier time than I did, since yours is the 2.0 (I like the sculpted wrinkles and texture, but it's difficult to paint). Hopefully Dollstown waits aren't anything like Dollshe ones :|

Oh, nice! Congrats! It'll be really good to see him on both those bodies.
I tried him on some really beefy bodies just for the neck/shoulder sizes and some of them are hilarious because of how muscular they are lmao (couldn't get him on the Impl Idol though, the c-ring was too big and wouldn't fit)

      Edit: Got it posted!

    39. I get most of my eyes from Dreaming Tree Studio Eye-Maker by trade, and Artist by career the website is a little difficult to navigate, but pretty much, you e-mail her and tell her you would like to have eyes made and would like to see color charts . . then she sends you the charts . . and you tell her what size and colour. Get the Paperweights as the regular sort -the flat backs - don't really work like regular doll eyes. She'll do custom sizes down to a point. Turn around time is about a month since obviously she has to make them. . BUT she's in the states, so the shipping doesn't take horribly long even now.
The other option for custom iris size is OOAK author dolls eyes wings accessories for craft by DOLLines They're based in Russia though, so the shipping time right now is. . long.
For now I'm not worrying about Dollstown since I have the two body options. Really hoping the Dollzone one works for him since the body shape is nice and the shoulders won't make him look like a linebacker or anything. The Mystic would probably need more neck modding, but again, we'll see when eventually everyone is here.
I'm definitely looking forward to painting him I need to study Mads' face a bunch. . . for science (okay fine I just wanna look at him) so I can decide what sort of techniques I must adopt to make him look proper. So far I haven't painted any older looking dolls, so this should be a fun challenge. I did get some lovely alpaca with some gray in it for making his wig.

    41. They're all wonderful! Do you know if they're still doing customs? I know they had a listing on their Etsy but then just recently all the Etsy listings were taken down from the shop.

I can't wait till I have some photos to contribute to this thread instead of just walls of text lol!

    42. I’m not sure, I know they had to take some time out because of a personal thing. I got two years ago, then when the customs opened again I literally sold some other dolls to get the other two done. I’d been looking for another sculptor but hadn’t got anywhere. I enjoyed working with them, it was a very good process, photos all the way along & discussion, which was better than I read some other places (limit on revisions etc). I hope they do reopen some day, as they’re really undervalued I think. I’m glad I got all the ones I’d originally wanted.

And thanks! I don’t get to show these guys as often as I’d like, because they don’t fit most people’s tastes. :XD: I have 27 dolls but these four are clear favourites!

    43. I haven't quite made it to 27 yet, but that's mostly because I'm waiting on Dollshe, Supiadoll, and Granado. Right now, in my house, I'm at 11 - almost 12, I think I may be at about 26 when everyone comes in. . possibly 27. . but most of the current ones are fashion Iplehouse and Dollshe ones.

I personally love more realistic looking dolls (I blame finding Iplehouse early on in my Doll journey), so I expect my Mikkel 2.0 will quickly become a favorite of mine. Just hoping the other dolls can work well with his realism. At least my Juah is actually supposed to be a doll, so that should be okay.

If they did start making new doll sculpts ever, who would you absolutely love to see? Personally, I'd like to see some lady sculpts - Dove Cameron for one would be wonderful in doll form and Lily Cole also, and for the fellows, I'd like to see Bowie, Gaspard Ulliel, and Johnathan Rhys Meyers. . . . among others.

    45. I'm kinda the opposite with the female/male ratios. . though I think it'll be more balanced out a bit once I have the new ones. In the current lineup of 11 there are only two males. I love looking at the handsome male dolls, but finding clothes for them is not my favorite. Female dolls tend to be more fun for me to dress. . . even when they're in guy clothes half the time. I'm determined to make Mikkel's character (Dr. Walther Madsen - the surname started as a joke since he was always Mads in my head) some really nice clothes though, so hopefully that will make things more interesting. I am hoping the body I have in mail quarantine right now will end up being exactly what I was hoping. Likely I will have to do a little mod on the neck. . If I need to, I may make a little shelf like the old version of the Dollstown 18 body had so that the head fits on the neck and the neck still looks a bit bigger than a 10.5ish cm neck would. I will be annoyed if I make a bunch of tailored neo-victorian-gothic-whatever clothes and then he ends up demanding a different body afterwards.
I still have to actually properly sit down and start writing his story. . which is technically Wendy's story (the other reason I mainly get girls is that most of my stories have a female main character). Dr. Madsen is a dollmaker and alchemist who falls in love with a girl. . but she dies. . . so he brings her back as a sort of reanimated doll. . . ish. . . clockwork. . . construct. There are hints of inspiration from Frankenstein and an episode of Fringe and whatnot in there of course. . . and of course he made another creation first which was not quite as lovely and may cause issues. (definitely will cause issues for my wallet since he's supposed to be a D. Lace Ex Machina Male >__> ,)

    46. @TatterPunk - Have you seen the "Penny Dreadful" series? Your description of Dr. Madsen's "earlier creation" makes me think of their take on the Frankenstein mythos (in a good way, of course! - can't have too many versions of that concept! The way Penny Dreadful does it is quite creepy).

@Spuggey - What great custom faces! One thing I like about them is that they definitely resemble the referenced real people but also (at least to me) look like independent characters. Congratulations on being able to have them made!

    47. I thnk I watched maybe one episode about a million years ago. . I really should go back and actually watch it though. I just keep forgetting that it's on my list of stuff I want to see lol. I also need to actually READ Frankenstein one of these days. Too many things to do! I think today's project (after work) is going to be compiling costume history research and narrowing down my inspiration time window. Their story isn't going to take place in a very specific time period, but the fashions will need to have at least some idea of what they're doing and the subtle differences in menswear are important! Gotta have nice things for Dr. Madsen when his head gets here!

    48. @TatterPunk - To be honest, Penny Dreadful got too weird for me. I watched a few episodes, and appreciate the style but it is a very dark show! If you do decide to read Frankenstein, be prepared for a lot of angst . I've read it, and listened to an audiobook recently and boy, Victor and the Monster both whine so much haha. But it is still a classic and brings up a lot of interesting things to think about.

I completely get it about narrowing down the historical inspiration period - I'm having the same problem with several projects! No need to be slavishly accurate, but fashion is usually closed linked to how a particular society functions, so why not take advantage of it? Good luck with choosing a time period!

    49. The whinieness doesn't particularly surprise me considering. That seems to be a staple in monster stuff. Apparently there's a YA novel which is a retelling of it called The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. . . which looks interesting. I love me some YA novels though.

I definitely didn't get any research done yesterday. I was too tired after work. . . however I'm off today, so I'll be working on that and maybe doing some designing for both Dr. Madsen and Wendy. I'm thinking likely 1870'sish. . . which brings a bit more fun scandal to the fact that this doctor fell in love with a ballerina 0__0 . I wish I still had my old costume history books from college though >__<. At least there's the internet!

My Mikkel 2.0 head is likely hopping on a ship right now to make the long voyage across the ocean. I really need to stop refreshing the tracking page, since I'll be doing that for a month or two if I keep it up.

Oh, also, @LupusDarkmoon , you were wondering if Mikkel was smaller than Pacle and the like I think in the other thread? It looks as though they're about the same size from the one photo on Namonaki's old website. Here is the photo . . . now to continue waiting. I'm being patient. . . really. . . no, really I am. . . why is everyone looking at me like they don't believe me?

    50. Sorry to double post. @Spuggey which 18M body is your one head on? Is it the Mystic or Arsene, or one of the earlier ones?

    51. Mystic body. I did have to modify the neck though, it was sanded down. The head did not fit properly on the body as is, but the body was one I had spare so I sanded it & dyed it. Looks pretty good now, though!

    52. Thank you! If you are able and it isn't too much trouble, I would love to see the actual mod as well as the shoulders and head without a shirt or wig?

    53. Might be able to do a photo in the next few days as his new outfit is coming & he’ll be getting undressed anyway. I don’t generally undress my dolls but you’re in luck as I have new clothes coming for him! Will try to get a picture in the next day or two.

    54. That would be totally awesome!
And I just got some crazy good news! My Mikkel 2.0 head has made it to the states! Apparently he somehow sweet-talked the Russian postal service into letting him board a plane. . likely he managed to get in first class, too, considering. Now he's just waiting to go through customs and then he'll be on his way to my mail quarantine room (siiigh for 7 days). This is good since his potential body is here and sitting headless on my dresser.
His eyes won't be here till later in the month likely, since I just ordered them last week. . . but there's yet a lot of work to do to get him to be his proper self. So much sewing and finding of shoes and wig making is to be done!!

    55. Ha ha! Unfortunate he had to come from Russia since Namonaki are US based in the first place. All my heads have shipped from them in the us, but I’m U.K. so it doesn’t help me one bit!

    56. Yeah, I found that a little amusing really. He traveled all the way to Russia just so he could come back to the states. . I'm just glad I was able to find him up for sale since I was a little late to the party in deciding I needed a Mads Mikkelesen looking doll. Thankfully the stars alligned though! It'll still be a couple weeks before I have him in my hands. He has to get here and then go through seven days of mail quarantine. . . but that's WAY sooner than I was expecting. I AM NOT PREPARED!! I need to make a couple patterns for his potential body and then make some pants and a shirt at the very least. Maybe a waistcoat too. Those are always nice.
      Edit:
By a couple weeks, it seems I meant one week. I get him out of mail quarantine on Friday! From what I can tell so far, the body I got for him will only need minor modifications. Likely a little neck shortening and then adding in some shoulder donuts to make his shoulders just a centimeter or so more broad. Oh and dying to match (not looking forward to that part). That's going by what my Uriel head looks like on it anyway. I'll know for sure what all I have to do on Friday. He only spent two weeks in transit, which is rather impressive considering! Time to start working on pants patterns after work. The only ones I have that fit on that body happen to be about two centimeters too short >__<.

    57. I know, I know, another double post, but this time it's important!
      HE IS HERE!!!
Apologies for the absolutely terrible phone photo, but it's early and there is no light.
[IMG]He Arrives!! by Tatterpunk, on Flickr

Currently he's sitting on a beautifully mismatched Dollzone B70-004 body, which works much better than I was expecting sizewise. I managed to find my first choice though . . . . a Dollstown 18 boy body . . on the marketplace, so that will be coming to me hopefully soon!
There will be better photos once I start actually working on things for him. I've got to make him a wig first, then once his proper body gets here I can do the faceup thing. The sculpt is SO lovely. I can't even. Even if it weren't a Mads likeness I'd probably be totally enamoured with the sculpt because it's SO well done!

@LupusDarkmoon , I'll be adding to the Mikkel Comparisons thread once I have the other two bodies too. The body I currently have him on wouldn't require much modding it looks like, just possibly a little neck shortening and sanding (the head fits on pretty well as is, but if you shorten the neck it gets a little wider - closer to 11cm, so he'd need some work then. The shoulders might benefit from donuts to make them a smidge wider too, but fitwise and proportion wise it seems work well right out of the gate. I'd say it's not quite ideal when it comes to realism match. . . but it definitely is an option.
