Nabarro’s Boys discussion thread - Part 2

Is everyone using normal "S" hooks on Kalan? This man has such a deep and long groove in his head, I'm wondering if a hook will slip out too easily.
I have a fat, crescent-shaped resin hook that Soom sends with some of their dolls. Am thinking of trying that, but will need someone to help me. lots of tugging!

 

My Dollstown body arrived!

I am in love with the proportions.
The resin match is pretty good too, the head is just a tad more yellow. I'm really happy. And I looooove this body soooo much. What a treat to finally own it.

Ok, so my new goal is to try to take more reference photos for things, so I hope this is a bit useful to people.

I haven't pulled the s-hook through yet (I need to wait for help, hehe that's why he has the little pillow), but I can let you know if it seems sturdy with this body once the head is fastened.

 

My Kalan arrived a few days ago, I haven't had time to take photos or even try a body on him. The faceup is exquisite, I had ordered makeup #2 for the delicate freckles I was not disappointed. Surprisingly, when I opened the box I saw he had beautiful grey eyes.
I'm thinking of putting him on a Dollshe DSam 32 body in Freshskin I hope the resin match is not too bad. I really don't want to order another body. Do you guys think he is closer to Oriental than Freshkin?

I have a WS Kalan and can take a photo with both Dollshe fresh and oriental, but I'm not sure if you have a WS or NS Kalan. Would that help you?

I eye-droppered the colors at the top. The photo is unedited except to add words.

None of the lighter Dollshe resins are a perfect match to Nabarro WS.
In person I think that Fresh is pretty close, though it is more pink. It seems in the same darkness range though, if that makes sense. Oriental would need some blushing up to match, but also totally doable I think. If you want to maintain a WS doll look with a Dollshe hybrid, I think Fresh is a good option.

 

Thank you for the photo, I agree with you Freshskin seems the closest. I would rather use a body I already have and all of those are Freshskin to start with. I'm hoping the Dsam body is good since the head seems large so a tall body would work well.
I have to start digging in those doll boxes to find it.

Oh goodness, I just saw the post where you asked about the s-hook again. Sorry for the wait! My Kalan has been sturdy with the s-hook!

 

All the new photos of Kalan are so lovely.
I really like some of those faceups. Hmm...I'm stilly trying to pin down exactly what I want to do with my own Kalan...he goes back and forth between ideas too much.
I stuck some rather sparkly eyes in him on a whim and he looks so innocent at the moment that I'm still leaning toward a sweet theme. Hehe. But...then sometimes I think he should be an evil wizard or something.

Oh! Haha, thank you! As a character, I think that would make him completely self-concious. But I do have to admit that I find myself just looking at him and sighing happily. Hehe. He's definitely one of my favorite dolls.

Got him blank yesterday, and couldn't even wait for the weekend, I wanted him asap, so painted at night! Today I am sleepy a bit, but it worth!

I was playing with a Nabarro boy today too!
So...Julien stole the Dollstown 18 body that I had gotten for my Kalan...(whoops)...but he looks amazing on it, so I guess all is well that ends well. Hm, guess my Kalan will be a floating head for a bit...
I pulled Julien out for a simple photo, since I need to suede the body still. But it was fun.

I was able to scratch Kalan off my wish list and he is on the way to me, yayyy !!
What is your fav or go to body for him ?
Basically I only own Idealian 72cm so I know that will prob not work lol
Anyone use a Iple SID male body or I was wondering about the 75cm Idealian as it is slimmer.
I tried to look back thru the threads but my internet is slow as molasses lately lol

I found Kalan a bit difficult to hybrid. It's similar to the hairstyle (cut, not color) I was thinking of giving my Kalan too. I'm so happy to see it really suits him!

I got a body for my Kalan! He's on the IoS 80cm body. So far, it works really well for him. It's pretty lean and maybe a little taller than I was originally thinking, but I really like it.

 

@Chikku - that looks very good for him. I never would have guessed that size would work, but my guy overwhelms his borrowed 65cm bod and 68 isnt much better.

 

@petiteballerine I too was surprised! I'd been trying him on my 65/68/70cm bodies I had and I just randomly tried this one.

On Flickr directly from the artist when she casts them, which is once every year at most. So 2nd hand ?

 

Yes, if you're looking for a specific sculpt then your only option currently is second hand. Nabarro tends to cast a limited number of heads, and sells them through their flickr, and tends to do so sporadically. And, so far they haven't sold the same sculpt twice.

Just a quick faceup, but it was so nice to work on him. Ahhhh, he's such a lovely sculpt! It was really exciting to see him blank. It's such a decadent treat to me to paint Wally.

i think we will be trying on many, many looks to find his true self...

But these blue eyes he so graciously arrived with demanded this fabulous do, and the first Edwardian fluff he could nab.
mine's on a DZ B70-003 right now, but i really like the way that 80cm IOS looks... @Chikku - is that the slim or larger neck model?

You know, I'm not sure. I bought an IoS Lacrimosa second hand and ended up commandeering his body for my Kalan. I could measure his neck-- give me a day or two.

Ooh, and yes, these hands are some of my very favorite doll parts ever.

i think those gloves we talked about are going to maybe be smashing for Kalan....
maybe a swept hilt sword.... seeing as we have ruffled shirts and whatnot.

i'll have to play around a bit with him, his face up seems more like for a blond or lighter brunette, not ginger or dark haired. i think the black in my first photo's wig was a tad too dark for being long, so we'll be trying on everything in the box and in the locks bin apparently. i've hardly any modern clothes in that size, so yeah... miles ta go.

Hehe, and you know, he just wants to make sure he gets the best wig.

Oooh! The lute is a doll prop I've been dreaming of for years! I'm so excited to finally have one. The back is gorgeously striped.

Hey! I have an interesting question for folks on this thread.
I recently got a Sumner head, and I dont doubt his legitimacy, as he has a Nabarro faceup (and when you compare to pictures on their instagram it's definitely one of theirs), but I saw in some of the Sumner arrivals in the last thread that they came in a wooden box, while I got a nice cardboard box with a button and string closure and a Nabarro tag, as well as a business card sized COA.
I was wondering if anyone knew if Nabarro changed their boxes and when.
I personally wouldnt care much as the faceup proves legitimacy quite well, but I would like to be able to explain the box discrepancy if anyone asks.

Yes, he changed his boxes when he sold out. I have many heads from Nabarro and my second Yakumo that I bought at the sale was also delivered in the box you described

@zekarmisama Man how time flies. I'm kind of glad it took me as long as it did to complete him because I ended up getting a lot closer to what I had in mind for him then I think I would have ten years ago.

@Cloudedmind - his look is so striking! your colour palette is really neat with the peachy orange highlights, the light blue of his eyes and suit, and his frosty hair and lips.
he looks really well proportioned, what body did you choose for him?

 

@TheyCanSeeInTheDark I've been debating with myself whether or not I want to cut/trim the wig he has on in those pictures. I kind of want some pieces that frame his face more.

@Grimalkin Thanks! He's on the Vings 68cm body. Har has a long face so he could go on a taller body, but the 68 works well for the look I wanted.
