I have a big procrastination problem when it comes to sculpting... But I've managed to come this far and I've spent a lot of money so I'd better finish... Anyway, these are the two dolls I'm working on now. One's smaller and made with super sculpey and the other's MSD sized and made of la doll and premier clay. I was going to take lots of progress pics but as it turns out, I suck at taking pictures. Here's what I have so far: I was having lots of trouble sculpting the legs, especially since I want them to be as posable as possible...if anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it! The head is made of la doll clay. Lots of sanding and touch ups needed*nods* I started using premier for the torso, and wow is it ever different! It's so much smoother and easier to shape and mix! Is that normal for them to be so different? What do you think? If you have any critique at all, don't hesitate to tell me; I want my dolls to be as nice as possible.
They are both looking good. I would suggest keeping the sculpy off of your wooden desk. The sculpy will react with the finish and ruin the wood. I don't know what it will do with the sculpy.
I try to keep the unbaked clay on ceramic tiles, but I'll keep that in mind. The pieces there are already baked(it's safe then, right?)
-UPDATE- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA220248.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA220247.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA220246.jpg Man, that head cap was hard to get off @_@ I think it woulda been impossible if I hadn't used a saw. I layered the clay way too thick Anyway, I think the head's come a long way from my first post. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA220249.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA220250.jpg I worry about how I'm going to get the styrofoam out of the legs. I figured out my camera problem-my hands weren't steady enough...
eek that's too cute for words! it looks so nice and smoooth, and ur proportions look acurate. wondreful job
My head walls tend to get VERY thick... in the couple of dolls I've done, it often takes me an entire evening (or three epsiodes of smallville) to go about the process... but then, I'm limited in what I have to use... I think I used some very big exacto blades at first, followed up with a sawblade.... >_< I might have to refit it, and try again, though... Anyway, all my doll making, except maybe some ear molds I'm working on for a friend, will probably be put off until I get home for R&R.
I have heard that premier is much better than la doll. The legs look beautiful>< I don't use styrofoam, because I haven't enough patience to take them out.....
Thanks for the comments! Here's another update... So I chopped up the legs and started on the rest of the pieces. I think I might have to restart one of the hands though--somehow it ended up smaller than the other(hands are the hardest to sculpt I think @.@). I used wood balls for the arm joints, but I'm not sure if they'll stay on. I dunno if I should just go ahead and do the other arm... And he still needs a name http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA290253.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA290254.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/PA290255.jpg I bought modeling paste because I heard you can mix it with water and paint and use it to coat the doll. I really hope it works(I had a bad dream about it last night! That it was a nasty dark color but I'd already painted my doll with it )
Yay, he stands! I'm so excited ^o^ I think his poses are kinda limited since his torso is one piece. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/P1050286.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/P1050289.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/P1050290.jpg I ordered so cheap eyes because the ones I made suck And a wig, since I have yet to make a decent wig. Hope they get here soon... So what do you think?
oh my gosh o_o; I didn't know people could SCULPT dolls, and look SO good o_O. you did a great job >_> . I wish I had half of your talent XD
He looks wonderfull! And it seems like hes posing very well allready! Can't wait to see the finished results ^^
Yaaaay~ He's done I made him some clothes too; I'm kinda proud of that too. He doesn't sit very well. I figured the poll things I put in the hip joints are too high up. Here's some more pics of him without clothes. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/yukamina/3.jpg I've named him Laika. People are gunna think he's a she XD I might cut his hair if I can ever work up the courage...
Oh my gosh... Soooo awesome. o_o I'm having such trouble making my boy legs and arms, and yours look AMAZING! Wonderfull job, you should be very proud! I love him~ (Lol, that sounds kind of strange because you don't know me, but he's dang awesome.)
*stunned* He came out even more gorgeous than I expected! I love him! He's got such a cute childlike body ^^ Any plans to cast??
Thank you all I'd like to cast him, but I don't think I can... at least not for a long time. I can't be spending any money right now, I don't have a ventilated area to do it, I hate ordering stuff online(but the closest thing I can find where I live is clear resin, no silicone even). And then I still don't really know how
