My Very First Bjd is here…but I’m a little heartbroken and confused

Oct 23, 2025

    1. Update: I’ve reached out to legenddoll and a solution has been made! Thank you guys!

Hello, this is the unboxing of my VERY FIRST BJD. An Angell-Studio Pan An. I purchased him May 15,2025 from Legenddoll.net. It was a gift from my mother. :(:hug:He is Angell-Studio Pan An. I’m excited to receive him but I’m a little heartbroken at this unboxing and the conditions he came in. Backstory: I decided to take a leap of faith and order him despite reading somewhere that he was out of production when I saw a picture since 2021/22. I thought that he was perfect for my characters and I was excited at the prospect of having him. I read that Legenddoll is a trusted company/dealer so I messaged Angell-studio first directly through their website and then Erica through legenddoll. Initially Legenddoll Erica told me it was out of stock. Erica responded only a few minutes later stating Angell-studio would be willing to make one for me. Angell-studio much later responded that they can make him in solid butter in the separate email I sent and that they would give me a quote. I went with legenddoll and ordered him in Milk skin. I figured since Legenddoll is a trusted dealer and because of the tariff situation. Communication on the layaway process was smooth.
By June Erica messaged me stating that my order was ready to ship and to make the last payment. I ask to divide the payment into two to make it 3 months total. I paid him off by July. I noticed he hadn’t shipped despite being ready so I message and by August 25 I received a tracking. The tracking didn’t move for 3 days so per Erica’s instructions, I messaged. She then told me to wait an additional 2 weeks. I proceeded to wait longer than that. When weeks passed I explain to her that initially she told me it was ready since June. I realized Bjds can take 5-6 months time so I decided to be patient through the advice of the forum and wait and because she admitted that the manufacturer hadn’t given Pan An to them yet.
To my surprise Angell-studio Pan A was on the way to me as of last week! I was EXCITED! :danceThis was my very first bjd I was excited for! I’ve looked at Bjds for years!! I couldn’t believe it was actually happening. But what came to me kind of broke my heart? :(The box was bent. But not just bent, it looks used inside and outside. There were holes in the box though it said “Angell-studio”. I figured this is not on Legenddoll. Perhaps this is UPS fault. When I open the inside, The smell of the box and inside gives an old smell almost like mildew but I don’t even see how’s that possible. He has no signs of it on him. It was in a plastic with a legenddoll sticker on it. I opened it and Pan An wasnt placed perfectly in like I often see with unboxing. He wasn’t laying flat all the way neatly which doesn’t makes sense to me and makes him appear almost used? He too was in a plastic? He also came in underwear which I’ve never seen before and the underwear is ripped? Has your bjd come in underwear is that normal? I’m not sure if that’s normal for Angell-studio bjd? He came with two certificate of authenticity but one appears faded and the other new? Both have the same information? Has your Angell-studio bjd come with two certificate of authenticity? I just don’t know what to make of it and I am a bit heartbroken with how he arrived? If this was new and just made how is this possible? I want to be happy about my first bjd…I don’t want to tell my mother because she made me even getting Pan An possible. I want to love my first Bjd but the condition he came in makes me confused. :pout:

I don’t know what to make of this.

      legenddoll sticker
      le[IMG] [IMG]
The cover was behind his head not actually protecting his head?
The cover is slightly powdery? It also smells slightly of old
      [IMG]
      Broken pieces from his ankle
      [IMG] [IMG]
      A chip by his knee

The foam insert is bent and he wasn’t laying flat in it
      [IMG]
      His face is fine :)
His lower belly tilts from is hip so I am thinking it’s loose? And right arm is more stiff then the left so when I fix it his head moves. The left arm doesn’t effect other parts of his body though.
      two certificate of authenticity

I want to love my first bjd he was supposed to be new and a gift from my mother but the way he arrived leaves me confuse tbh. :( I don’t know what to believe. But he is a gorgeous sculpt in the face :kitty2

    2. You are so valid for being upset, this is NOT typical and I'm sorry it happened to you, most especially for a first doll. You should definitely let LegendDoll know what happened! They will likely also be shocked at the state of that box and willing to help you set things right. No clue on that double CoA; it's possible they had printer issues and it's not more serious than that. Hopefully they can explain.

But as far as the box damage - that looks like UPS to me. What a nightmare to recieve a box in that condition. It's very good you took a bunch of pictures, including before you opened it. The damage to the interior box matches the outside, so it was likely fine when it went in. I think the damage and shifted position and face cover are also from what looks like some pretty violent treatment. Poor guy had a rough trip to you. The odd smell may even be from the trip... hard to say.

Again, so sorry you're dealing with this. Inform LegendDoll right away, and UPS should also take responsibility.

    3. Thank you! I’m in tears..i want to cherish him because my mom made it possible she gave me all the payments to get him. She always says “if it makes you happy” because she wants to see me happy but I’m so sad right now I can’t show her I talk to her about it and the pictures I want to take and the fact that I will do my very first faceup. I have just messaged legend doll through my purchase and sent 5 pictures. Hopefully I hear back soon then I can send the others. I hope somehow this gets rectified.

    4. I hope they get back to you quickly! I don't have experience having issues with a LegendDoll order, but I can't imagine they wouldn't want to set this right. And your mom will understand, too! You will still get to have fun with your boy soon, I'm sure of it.

    5. It's not typical, but it does happen sometimes that a box gets severely damaged in transport. I had a Ringdoll boy that looked fairly bad, the whole side was ripped and the top of the company box fell apart. The dolls leg was broken. It almost looks like your box got stuck on a conveyor belt. That happened to my Soom doll and he got lost for a month in the mail.

Some dolls do come wearing underwear. Mystic Kids and Dollmore have underwear, and Volks dolls also come in chemise and bloomers. I don't know if Angel Studio does this. I don't have any of the dolls.

Some companies do send a doll with two certificates, one is for the head and one for the body. One certificate might be more faded or a different date if the parts were not made at the same time.

I am not making excuses for the way that your box looks, it looks terrible and you have every right to be upset about how badly it looks. I hope that the doll is fine and all in one piece.

I just wanted to answer some of the questions that you had asked.

    6. Thank you! I finally showed my mom. My mom looked at the box and she’s convinced that the confusion is UPS had the package the whole time and that’s where the communication between my messages between legenddoll happened. She believes UPS sat with my package for months in the warehouse and went through the box and even the box looks like it got wet then dried and that is probably where the slight old smell is coming from. I was convince he was completely broken when he arrived with the condition it came! Thankfully it is only his leg and ankle. Ups is doing terrible right now. Thank you. The reassurance was definitely needed!
Thank you so much! This relieves some of my concern very much with all the answers you have given! My mother believes the same. That Ups did this, Just his leg near his knee is chip and the ankle has been broken on one side. Where the package was crushed the most is where the ankles were, I’m so happy he is not completely ruined. His waist near his hips is a little loose but I believe I have to tightened him slightly. He looks new to me, the packaging caused some doubt. Thank you!

    7. I would also recommend a good bath for everything - maybe the powdery coating on the face cover is just from dust, but it *could* be mold or resin dust and either could potentially be bad for your health.

You'll probably need to restring him anyway to adjust the tension and repair the chipped pieces, so while you're at it I would give all the parts a wash with basic dish soap and then put him back together with fresh elastic.

It's a little work and might seem intimidating for your first doll, but personally I find working on my dolls to be very satisfying and a good bonding experience!

    8. This is awful. I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's even worse it's your first doll.
You are currently sitting at 151 days since the purchase date. If you paid through paypal, your protection is almost up. This is absolutely unacceptable and you should NOT let the claim period pass. I wouldn't be suggesting this without having you contact Legenddoll first and seeing if they will fix this without a claim, but you are extremely close to having paid the full amount for a destroyed doll. I don't think they'll be able to fix this in 23 days and it would be awful to see your mother's money go to waste.
I do not suggest doing anything with this doll until it is solved. If you change anything, it won't be in the same condition you got it in.

    9. I agree that sending Legend Doll all the pictures of the box damage and broken doll parts is important. They can file the claim with UPS and possibly even send you replacement parts for your doll.

However, if they cannot send you replacements, fixing those parts is doable. There are tutorials here on DoA and possibly elsewhere online.

    10. It looks like some one stomped on the box as hard as they could. The boxes are sturdy enough that this kind of damage wouldn't happen though casual mishandling. If it had not been so badly damaged, the doll would have arrived exactly as you imagined it would.

I am actually surprised there isn't more damage.
Still, you will now get to be better acquainted with your doll when you make repairs to him.

He's beautiful and now he has a hero's backstory to go with him!

    11. Oh my god I'm so sorry this happened to you and its definitely not typical. I have heard some horror stories about legendoll though and I personally steer clear from their website. But I'll echo the same sentiments as others have said: definitely reach out to Legenddoll and send them photos. Hopefully they can help in some way, whether it be a partial refund or filing a claim with UPS. I hope everything works out for you and its made right. This is absolutely unacceptable.

    12. That box looks almost accordioned, like it was crushed end to end. It's amazing there isn't more damage!

Whether or not you are able to get replacement parts comped to you, that little guy went through a lot to get to your door. He deserves a warm blanket and a hot drink!

When dolls arrive without any faceup or body blushing, they are likely to have the mold release powder still on them from the casting process. Use a mild dish soap, not one with hand moisturizing properties, and that will resolve at least one issue.

Hard to say if the smell is from dampness, which entirely possible, but new resin outgasses and it's a very strong odor. I have dolls I've owned for years that are in a bookshelf with glass doors, even opening that after a while I can smell the resin again. If the smell doesn't go away after a wash, that is the smell of resin. Left out in the open it will diminish.

UPS is a mess right now, maybe worse than things got during lockdown. with the changes to tariffs and the end of de minimis UPS has been in chaos. I've read they're even throwing away packages that allegedly don't have the correct customs information on them. The last package I had incoming was stuck in transit for almost three weeks before it was delivered but it was a small solid box of doll shoes so everything was okay.

But agreeing with everyone else, email Legend, send all the photos, ask them what they can do to help~:clover

    13. Did that box get run through a hydraulic press or what? :horror:

I'm sorry this is your first experience with bjd, but as was said, he certainly has a heroic story now and so do you! Thank goodness the head itself is fine. :thumbup
I hope you keep us updated on the situation when it's resolved!

    14. I have ordered directly from Angell Studio’s English website and my doll did arrive in plastic. Typically around this time of year, I also request that the outer box be wrapped as well for weather proofing. Hope this can give you a reference point because mine was squished but not accordianed.

Mold release is pretty common on many products, so I typically will go in with a damp micro fiber if I think there is residue.

    15. @Bluechelle : I'm SO SORRY that happened to you :( WOW. the box damage is insane... from what it looks like (this is just me conjecturing) but I think the box must have gotten caught up in some type of machine - maybe when going through all these sorting facilities and gotten crushed.

I know it's very hard to be excited and happy - everyone wants to open their first doll in the fancy box, fresh and new out of the box... so you are totally valid for feeling sad and disappointed. But, if it helps in some way - my first doll arrived with one of his hands completely broken. Fingers were all snapped off, this was back in the day when doll companies weren't doing all the fancy foam packing (which is likely what minimized the damage to your lovely guy!)

I was really bummed because I wanted to just enjoy him, and instead I had to take all these photos and email the company to get a replacement, but they did replace the hands as I'm sure Legend/A-S will do for you as well. Once the shock wore off, I had so much fun with my first new doll! So take some time to feel your feelings, but just know the shock will wear off. You have a gorgeous doll now, and once you're feeling up to it, play with him. He will make you feel so much better ;)

Also... your guy is officially the poster child for Angell-Studio durability because I CANNOT believe he survived all of that with a couple of chips. :aeyepop: Color me impressed...

    16. I'm so sorry that happened! Echoing the others in this is 100% transport damage from UPS mishandling your package or it getting stuck somewhere in the system. Make sure to ask Legenddoll to get you replacements of all the broken parts if they haven't offered it yet.

As for why you got to order a discontinued sculpt in a certain skin tone - afaik LegendDoll has special agreements with some companies that allow such backorders, even if the company is no longer offering them directly. So I'm pretty sure your doll is new and not used goods! The ripped underwear is unfortunate but uhh... haven't we all :sweat the posing issues are just from the string tension being uneven and is a very easy fix.

In any case - congrats on your beautiful doll! I hope LD sends you replacements for the broken parts quickly, and once you've relaxed a bit, everything else is easily fixable. Hope you get to fully enjoy your doll soon!

    17. I’m so, so sorry you and your beautiful guy had to experience this! I’m sending you my condolences.

At the very least, he looks very happy to finally be home. I hope he can bring you lots of joy in the future.

    18. Geez, that is… quite a lot of damage. I haven’t ordered from Legendoll before, but I would agree that this is most likely the shipping company’s fault, and hopefully the dealer can send you some replacement parts.

I’m really sorry this happened. Opening your first BJD should be a magical experience, and it’s very unfortunate you were denied that. I definitely understand being frustrated and sad about the condition he arrived in, but it’s not the doll’s fault, so do try to enjoy him. Like others have said, at least now he has an interesting backstory.

    19. Thank you! I will definitely do that. I’m looking at tutorials and images on how to restring. I saw one that showed how easy it is to unstring.
Thank you for this information! I was worried about the cut off date as well. :aeyepop:I’ve contacted legenddoll and Erica offered a solution thankfully, to replace parts and a 20usd coupon. I’m going to hold off in the faceup until I know for sure the parts are here.
Thank you! I have contacted legenddoll. Erica offered a solution so I’m hoping all goes well from here. It will still be useful to know about repairs so im definitely going to research it
I love the idea of him having a hero backstory :3nodding: Yes my moms convince the same! It looks almost deliberate. The top of the box that said “fragile” was clearly opened and retapped. It all looked suspicious tbh. When I initially opened it there was a big hump I was sure was his arm being broken but thankfully it wasnt! Just his legs are chip with one leg more so than the other and a broken ankle. Top of the same broken ankle leg is chipped as well.
Ive run into some stories as well. I decided to reach out and I believe Erica is doing an investigation. She offered me a solution. Im hoping everything works smoothly from there. Thank you!
That’s the best way to describe it lol definitely accordion. I’ll be sure to wash him fully. It’s such a scary time now I see so many horror stories about peoples packages I’m lucky he got here and wasnt fully broken considering the way he arrived. Thank you. I have a better understanding of the new resin smell etc.

Lol that is the best way to describe it! I do love the idea of the heroic story and i will implement that. Yes omg I was so worried for that too because it was definitely his face that compelled me to seek him out :love lol. I reached out to legenddoll and she offed a solution to replace the parts and a 20usd. I confirmed so now to play the waiting game. I feel relieved! :3nodding: I also believe she’s asking the shipping about what happened.
Thank you! Yes I ran into your video yesterday when I went researching on how they should come and I was relieved to see another Angell-studio doll that was in plastic so now I know for sure! Thank you for sharing
Omg I’m sorry to hear that. I was worried that would be the case when I saw a hump that almost looked like the shape of an arm, thankfully it wasn't broken. Lol so true! I was convince he was completely broken with the presentation. I’m very happy to finally have my first bjd. He is a gorgeous sculpt. And you’re right, I’ve reached out to legenddoll and a solution was made. I’m glad a solution was made for both is us. Now to wait :dance
Thank you! I still can’t believe I have him considering he isn’t really sold anymore I’m excited to do his faceup very soon!
Thank you! I will. I will implement that backstory to him. It’s perfect for his character!

    20. Thank you guys for the supportive encouragement and helping me learn the process of receiving a bjd. I’m learning so much!:hug:I’ve reached out to legenddoll and Erica came back with a solution. She was shocked to see the condition and said that isn’t normal. The solution was to send replacement parts and a 20usd. I accepted that so now I wait. I’m excited to get the parts and do his faceup and body blushing :dance

    21. I am so glad a solution was provided for you. Generally with newer dolls, it is easier to get a resin matched body part. I have had body parts replaced by companies through dealers with pretty smooth results. I have also had them offer to sell me a replacement part when something was broken. The resin match wasn't there, but the function is sometimes more important.

I know duties suck, but in this logistical world, especially around the holidays, I think it is worth paying extra for peace of mind and insurance.

    22. Aww, I'm sorry you had such a stressful experience! I hope you bond with your doll in future <3

    23. So sorry this happened. My first bjd arrived broken too, it was such a deflating moment.
thankfully replacement parts can be cast and I see they've agreed to do that which is great.

looks like UPS just mangled this. It looks like it got wet and got really knocked around. That he isn't more broken I think is a testament to how tough resin actually IS. I mean damn.

    24. My god, what a disaster! I'm so glad you were able to get replacement pieces. If this had happened to me I would have passed out from sheer horror! (I nearly did when my dog decided to use my limited Darak-i Wendy as a chewtoy, btu was able to get replacement parts like you did.)

    25. Sorry that this happened to you.
