My two dolls... (update)

Apr 21, 2006

    1. Okay... *sweat* Its taken me awhile to pluck up the courage to post these... Heh, I'm silly :P These are two of my few dolls, most of them are in bits. I have a tiny with no head :P A 60cm with crunchy sawdust coating, this sculpy doll, and what I assume is paperclay doll...(the packaging was unclear)

      This is sculpy doll, I harbour a deep resentment for her. Damn sculpy :P

      Oh yes, and sorry for the bad photos, its a phone camera ^_^;

      [IMG]

      I quite like her face (though I'm starting to see it as a boy...) Sculpy is good for faces. But not limbs... or ball joints... or hands... or anything else :P Ok, no more sculpy bitchiness...

      And now for my little favourite ^_^ My paperclay dolly! She's a sweety! and so easy to sculpt :D Though she looks a bit generic, I didn't want to do anything too extravagant with her face or body until I felt sure I'd learned the simple stuff.

      and these photos of her are from yesterday, I think I ruined her cute lips though u_u; but I'm going to give her heavy duty face surgery anyway because I looked at her face using a mirror and the symmetry is way off.

      My boy friend said "You should finish your doll,"
      I said "Why?"
      He said "So I can hold her, and she'll be real,"
      Then I chased him around the house squealing "cute!" and he wished he'd never said it :P

      She looks so crunchy! XD

    2. Oh they are so beautiful! I really really love the face on the first doll, I can't wait to see how these turn out!

      That is so adorable!

    3. Besides being crunchy (XD) they look beautiful! I've been curious about making a doll from paper-clay or sawdust lately...I make mine out of super sculpey...so i am looking forward to more posts of your progress!

    4. Thanks for your nice comments ^_^ Why do you like the first face better Kalee? Everybody says that :P Is it the smaller eyes? Or just better detail?

      Hey Mr Orange ^_^ I've seen your dolls before, and thier so cool and unconventional. I've used the sawdust and paste mix on a doll previously, and it is SO strong! @_@ Not only that but its hard to get off your hands and goes absolutely everywhere!

      The clay I use is Efa Plast by Eberhard Faber, I think they make synthetic clays that mimic the properties of natural clays (the description on the packet is pretty vague). Efa Plast Light is the paperclay (it barely weighs a thing) they have a wood clay (I forget its name) and a china clay called Efa Plast Classic (which weighs a ton). I kind of hope the paper clay is synthetic, because I heard the natural stuff has a tendancy to rot.

      I don't think I'll go back to sculpy again :P I work three times faster in this stuff.

    5. what kind of sculpy were you using? and why didn't you like it? I'm just sort of curious...I liked sculpy way better than paper clay...but I think maybe I was using a different kind of paper clay than you. my biggest complaint about the paper clay is that it would totally loose its shape while drying...and it would wrinkle and crack...and the parts that I added on later would break off sometimes....er....

    6. I've used prosculpt, regular sculpey, and Premo. I loved Premo best but I had to buy it online because shops don't sell it here :S Prosculpt was too gooey for me, I like to work with really firm polymer clay, I had to keep adding other sculpey to it. I'm a bit clumsy, so I was always pushing it out of shape. I also kept making mistakes that I only noticed after baking, and sometimes the sculpey would sag during baking... I like air dry clay because you can sand it easily, chop bits off you don't like, and add bits whenever you want. No sticking bits on and re baking necessary!

      I was using a grey air dry clay before, that cracked like mad "_" My paperclay hasn't had any problems losing shape while drying... I used marker pens as leg cores :D Though if I lay my pieces down to dry they would flatten at the bottom, but that was easily solved.

      Its probably down to brand, and everyone's different. I'm just happy I found a clay I liked :) I love how easy it is to sand and smooth!

      My doll can STAND! I tested her today! :D

    7. Wonderful dolls! You bf is right-finish! :)

    8. Anyone got any critism before I finish her? I'm not sure her legs are straight enough :S and her arm joints are dreadful :P I find that the hardest part to do for some reason...

    9. I love your faces! Wow I wish I could make adorable faces like that!
      and the detail in her hands! ::squeals:: so cute!

    10. Here's some new pics, she's had all her limbs separated and the ball joints put in. I'm going to string her once she dries, then I'll finish her up with sanding and so on... oh, I forgot her boosums @_@

      Any tips on shoulder joints? I always mess them up ^_^;;

    11. Both of those things I think, mostly the detail, and it's also probably because I prefer heads with open eyes. I can't wait to see it with a wig and face up.
