Aesthetics My second face up

Feb 18, 2017

    1. I did my first face up and it was horrible...BUT I feel like I was somehow "turned on" at the second time only three days after!

The biggest problem is that eyebrows are hard to be symmetrical. By the way, I'm still waiting for my gloss paint and tiny brushes, so I only used color pencil (water-soluble) and soft pastels this time.

I'm going to receive my 1/6 size head called "Dream" from Dance Soul doll on Taobao which is a face up practicing head. She is a sleeping head, so I guess I will get more challenge next time!;)

    10. I took about 4 attempts and totally gave up all hope and sent my boy for a faceup, so I think you've totally nailed it if this is only attempt number 2!!

    11. Great job, I can't believe it's only your second attempt!

    12. That is fantastic! Like others have said, I had to give up because my practice dolls are turning out like monsters. You have a ton of talent :)

    13. Yes! But I want to use gloss paint to stick them on and the paint has't arrived yet...do you know anything else which can replace it?

Thank you! I will keep practicing and try more styles:whee:

Thank you! I'm in design major and have learnt drawing for a while. I guess that's a reason?

    14. I think your face up looks great! I don't think the eyebrows are too symmetrical. I hear the saying is sisters, not twins :P

*Edit: I meant not too asymmetrical - in that I think they look good to me :)

    17. If you're going for a more realistic look then being a little different is what will make the look.
Fantastic job btw, I'm scared to death to even try to touch mine so I'm getting company faceups.

    18. I have a hard enough time getting my eyebrows symmetrical on my own head, so I'm not surprised it's even harder on a doll. They look great, though. I can't wait to see what you can do with gloss!

    19. I use templates to make eyebrows - I stick a piece of masking tape over the brow, use a pencil to sketch one eyebrow out where I want it, then remove it, fold the tape in half, then cut the shape out. Then I re-stick the tape on, and apply my pastel base. :) I do still have to re-position the templates on the head sometimes, since even then, they will still be asymmetrical, but more often than not, they turn out just great. :)

    20. You can blend the watercolour pencil with water to help reduce the graininess and blotchy colour. :)
      The shading in the nostrils is uneven, which makes one appear larger than the other. ^^;

Me too! It's very handy. :)
Here's an old photo set I made back in 2013 of the whole process.

    21. Its a beautiful, simple soft face. Its very childlike. I think it's wonderful.
