My second doll-Imogene

Jan 27, 2009

    1. I thought I'd put some pictures of my second BJD, Imogene, up here. Ultimately, she is going to be costumed as a young Victorian girl of about 9-10 years old. She's 37.5 cm at present, but her head is going to sit higher on her neck when she's finished.

Things I'm currently doing-adding to her hips, lengthening her left shin, reworking the ball joint on her left foot (it's canted sideways, so the bottom of the foot is not flat.) She's also getting ears, and I'm working on the back skull/jaw area, along with just overall tweaking and evening.

I've been working on this little girl for months now, and torn her face down several times. I'm now reasonably pleased with it, but would appreciate critique on any aspect of the doll. I'm not happy with her hands, though they look better than they are photographing at present-I had to basically go for a mittenish thing, because the fingers kept breaking off. I've got some Apoxie (both kinds), but I've not had much luck adapting to it so far. I had thought about making hands for smaller dolls out of that. Now I just think I'll make bigger dolls!;)

She does stand, she's just a bit fiddly. A good friend pointed out the shin length problem when I couldn't see it. She also pointed out the problem with the hips, which I'm working on now.

    2. She has a pretty face and nice proportions. I really appreciate more realistic proportions. Others are more qualified to give criticism, but they may want bigger pictures.

    3. Thanks, SimonPurple! Given my skills with a camera (negligable!), bigger pictures might be a problem. But I'd give it a go.

    4. she looks wonderful - and she stands! <grin> that is always the big moment for me when they finally agree to stand on their own.

I was wondering if you might want to define her upper chest a little more - hollow out from the shoulder down to the collarbone a little... an example is like this fragment of a Jock Sturges photo of a girl around 8-10 years old...

    5. Thank you, patl, for the kind words and the picture. I was wanting a photo reference, but for obvious reasons was hesitant to google something like "little naked girls"!

    6. Pat, what a great photo!!!

I can't wait to see what comes of IMogene. Her face is wonderful!

    7. I'd have to agree. She looks wonderful!
Also her chest needs a little bit of modeling and something else was a little off in my mind. I'm not sure if anyone else would agree but her bottom looks a little rounded and big in the third picture before the bottom. This might be because of the posture she is in. But I always have difficulties in waist downward areas. So it might just be me.
Overall can't wait to see her in progress.

    8. You don't have to look up nude pictures, you could google 'human anatomy'.

    9. Deviant art has a lot of stock images of the human form ( artistic Nudes and clothed) you could look there for referance in stead of using a serch function like Google. the Pictures and monetered for mature content so mostly it should be just art type pictures ( some can be sugestive tho)
Here is a link to deviant art... http://www.deviantart.com/#catpath=resources/stockart/model&order=5

your doll is very cute tho. she does need a bit of deffinition. Good luck

    10. Absolutely beautiful face! I like her proportions especially in the side view.
