Wearables My second alpaca wig!

Sep 27, 2015

    1. So about a week ago, I finished my second ever alpaca wig :D I used a stocking with glue for the wig cap, then glued the locks of fiber on the cap directly (no wefts). I used the slit method for most of the part. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, EXCEPT for the very front. It's messy, and you can see glue :( No matter how much fiber I added, I just couldn't get it to look natural. I intend to either comb some of his hair back, or give him some sort of hair ornament to cover that bit.

I find I enjoy the wig-making process, so I'd love any tips for how to get the front to look better.

Anyway, here's Legolas/Granado Pancho :D (He hopes you will ignore his wonky eye.)

I know, the ends need trimming!

    2. From the top and back it looks wonderful, but as you said you can see glue from the front view. Maybe he could wear some sort of crown. Ive seen flower ones that look amazing. As for tips, I'm not sure how you would fix this one but i have some advise for future wigs! I've never had any luck doing split parts, they seem more complicated then they have to be. When I am doing a part, I make a weft (longer and thicker then the rest) and fold it and iron it flat. I don't think i'm describing it well, I think i'll have to take pictures the next time I make one.

    3. Thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking of having him wear a bit of a crown. I got some brown floral wire and I am going to try to make something with it that looks like it's made of wood. I know what you are trying to say for the part. I actually tried it that way at first, but I was always able to see the glue all along the part. That's why I did it the split way along most of the part. I didn't split the very front...that is using the fold-over method, and the glue shows :( I was probably doing it wrong, or maybe I'm using the wrong glue (Aleene's Tacky Glue).

    4. I had that problem too with the folded part, but i found that if i make two-three wefts and stick them on top of eachother so you have one nice thick weft, the glue doesn't end up showing sine there is so much hair covering it. I've tried a few different glues, but so far my favourite has been a tacky fabric glue. I've heard of people using modge podge but it didn't work well for me.

    5. I will try fabric glue next time, probably. At least, I hope it will blend in better than Aleene's.
