My SD bed project

Jun 17, 2008

    1. So...
after seeing this thread:Getting Crafty: SD bed project ^^
I decided to make my boys a bed too!

Instead of having the box open side up, i put the open side down.
Then i went to a DIY store and bought some sticky back plastic that had a wood effect.

For the headboard i use polystyrene, cut it to shape and used the same sticky back plastic.

Here is River, my DZ discovering the bed.
      River: Whats this?
Me: Its a bed for you to share.

River: Oh right! *sits on it*

River: *lays down* Not very comfortable here!!!
      Me: I know, i know ^^;

Me: *Gives him doll box blanket* That'll do for now..
      River: Bedding next!!!

      Basic bed finished.
I lined the inner with the wood effect plastic as well and the headboard is detachable so that i can use it either way round.
Might try and make this into a four poster bed yet.

      Next up! Bedding.
How on earth do i make a mattress? lol

    2. If you don't mind scaling a pattern up, Doll's House Needlecrafts (I think that's the title) has a pattern for a mattress, and the boxspring. I'll have to pull out my copy, since I've been thinking of doing that myself. ;)

I like your idea of the wood patterned paper. And I love the little headboard. To me, it looks like flames to match River's tattoos. :love

Of course, you could always just get some cotton batting or better yet, that foam batting and then cover it with a mattress type fabric. You could sew through the mattress to get the quilt top look, if you want.

    3. ooooh good idea!!!!

i thought of the foam idea, but not doing little stitches in it to make it look mattress like XD

Glad you like the headboard...think im gonna have to make a taller one once i have a mattress though, heheh.

Want to find some tubes too to try out this four poster thing^^

    4. Hi Jess!
The bed looking great! I'm kinda jelous now cause it didn't even cross my mind to use sticky back plastic for the wood effect Instead I made life difficult for myself and used real wood. -_- Was the sticky back plastic expensive?
Another thing, are you sure you're guys are gonna fit in that bed? I measured my bed around 80cm x 45cm so two 70cm boys can sleep in it quite comfortably but your seems just a tad small.
Anyway I'll keep checking back on this thread to see how you get on. Keep up the good work!^^

    5. Its a 66 cm old doll box so its a bit small for my 70cm, but the rest of them fit on nicely ^^
I made the bed for everyone of my boys to share. Didnt want it any bigger...i'm running out of room in my bedroom as it is thanks to my boys XD lol

The sticky back plastic costed me all of £4 from B&Q ^^

    6. Great idea, Pendrithgirl! I think your boy likes it :)

    8. the-sinister-Yeah it was cheap ^^
