Anyone else collect MLP? I'm a G1 fan, personally. I have a lot of fun restoring and rerooting them. My favorites will always be the babies and So Softs. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme...535917e75eb770f899c19add71c403e0e27e2f03f283& Here's an older picture of my herd. I've expanded it quite a bit since! Oh, and I'm waiting on a G1 Twilight at the moment. I have a few Basic Fun ponies (Twinkle Eyes) but I'm really interested in the Scented ones released a few years back. I've seen the Celestial Ponies on Amazon, and... they're okay. The franchise's 40th Anniversary is this year so there's a bunch of stuff coming out related to G1.
It is so great to see them all together! My favorites are the very tiny ones. I do not know what they are called, but they are smaller than anything in your picture.
Oh, I think those are the Petite Ponies! Do these look familiar? MLP Petite Ponies Database | MLP Merch
Hmmm. The ones that I have are not on any kind of a stand. One of them has tail hair. One of them is a dollar store knock off with moveable wings and tail hair. Maybe all of them are not "real" My Little Ponies. Like I said, there is no stand on the bottom. I think one of them is this type of thing: PICK YOUR OWN, My Little Pony, Blind Bag, Mlp, My Little Pony G4, Transparent Blind Bag, Neon, Glitter, My Little Pony Figures, Rare, Biglot - Etsy
I have just one, which I've had since I was a child. Out of curiosity I looked it up in that database. It is a G1 Princess Primrose. My Little Pony Princess Primrose Year Five Princess Ponies G1 Pony | MLP Merch I was born in '92, so I expect like many of my toys she probably came from a garage sale. I always loved that pretty sparkly butterfly thing on her hip, but her stance used to frustrate me because she fell over easily and was an awkward size for my Barbies. Ah, memories.
My partner collects all gens of MLP! I don't have any pics of our collection but we have so many we can't even display all of them; some are still in storage x3
MLP was my original collection! I still have all of mine - G1 - and I want to collect more. I need to know more about this 40th anniversary stuff though because I turn 40 this year too!
Yeah, sounds like they're Blind Bags! And no worries about them being "real" ponies. "Fakies" are super common and actually quite collectible themselves! Every collector has one or two... Primrose is such a lovely pony! Yeah, there are for sure certain poses that are... not as steady. You should see the ones that rear onto their hind legs! I think those ones might've even come with a stand at one point. That's so cool! I'm almost exclusively G1 but I have some of everything except for G5. That's awesome! It looks like the 40th anniversary was last year (oops) but there's still all the cool stuff on sale! Basic Fun has a lot of really cool reproductions you might be interested in, as well as some new plushes. They're on Amazon here. There's also an exclusive 40th Anniversary pearlized pony set at Target here. I think this G4 Mane 6 set is exclusive to Wal-Mart? A lot of clothing and accessory brands have done collabs with G1 in general but Loungefly in particular. Hot Topic also carries a lot of MLP G1 stuff. I get most of my news from MLP Merch, which is a good collection tracking site in general. ...Hope that wasn't too many links!
You might be a pony customizer... But are you a My Little Time Lord level of customizer? :p Eleven negotiating with Pegasus Four. It takes a craft knife for haircuts, Apoxie Sculpt or something similar for additions, a thin coat of chalk texture paint for a base, thin layers of acrylic, a gloss top coat, and lots of patience. I made exactly two sets, and Pegasus Four, and unless your name is David Tennant or you're directly related to him I'm never making another set.
Yes! I collected them (as much as the parents would allow) when they first came out. Basic Fun has been doing a few re-releases, but from what I've read, they already said hard no to the Flutter ponies. Anyone else have seaponies? Those adorable little vinyl seahorses that had a metal ball in the bottom so they would float, and would fill with rust and mold when you used them in the bathtub? Good times. Great memories!
I have a couple of seaponies! They're quite fun to rehab because you dunk them in the warm water + soap, and they float right back up!
I have sea ponies, two flutter ponies (always wanted more), and a mix and match of other G1 releases.
I have my first pony still. She’s a Razzaroo that came with a birthday set. I used to have a bunch as a kid, and even a castle and salon sets. But I gave most of that away. I always wanted a Wysteria so I found one on eBay in great condition recently! I keep her on my dresser My ponies are Gen 3 cuz that’s when I was a kid. I have half a mind to collect a few others. I especially like the purple ponies lol
Somewhere in the hoard is a herd of G1 and a barn. I had exactly four, Blossom and Moon Dancer and their babies, my sister got what she wanted of them. We were like the bureau of land management with the plastic horses she left behind when she moved. I didn't realize how grayed out Blossom had become until I saw the re release. I once had the original giant palomino who blinked when you brushed her hair, and I think you stores stuff in her bum-bum. For gunky sea ponies mix some Oxyclean laundry additive with hot water, squeeze the water in to the pony and swish it around, then squeeze the water out. Repeat until the water is clean then rinse and squeeze out as much water as you can. For drying you might have to have them do some yoga so their drain hole hangs down. The Oxyclean works on all pony gunk but it might dry their hair out a bit. For general washing Zote soap and a toothbrush, be careful around the cutie marks, works. To really get inside you might have to open them at their neck seam, hopefully with nothing sharper than a table knife, unless the tail comes out. Guess who ran a pony laundry not to long ago.
I love flutter ponies! I've never had one with wings though. Oh, cool! I grew up with G3 too. There's some amazing color combos. Wisteria is one of my favorite ponies too! I have a fondness for her, Cheerilee, and Kimono. I'm a small-time pony launderer (hmm... maybe not the right word... ).
I tried making my own with some reused Rainbow High packaging, but I wasn't happy with the cut lines: And now for something completely different And now for something completely different I highly recommend the replacement wings by shadowonthemoon on Etsy. I have several pairs. They fit perfectly, and they are just as gorgeous in person as they are in photos.
Yes, I have G1 ponies! They were one of my favorite childhood toys, and even now, I find they're just so satisfying to hold and I enjoy how colourful they are. Here's some of my favorite ones- I've recently been doing a restoration on a Starshine I picked up as a 'de-stress from RL problems' project However I've gotten a bit stuck because I can't work out how to get the big roll shape on the mane that the originals have. I can't find any information how the original factories did it and all my attempts haven't gone very well. But on a more positive note, I'm now currently working on re-vamping the character sheets for some Friendship is Magic style OC ponies of mine. I made a few custom ponies in the past and once i'm happy with the character designs I'm thinking I might have another go at making some of them as custom ponies using some HQG1C blanks. So this thread has popped up at just the right time as I'm enjoying a return to MLP stuff at the moment
As someone who owned these when they first came out, I'm going to tell you: they wrapped the hair around the horse's neck. That's it. Get it wet, wrap it tight around the neck, let it air dry, and Bob's your uncle.
Ahh the heart break of Flutter pony wings! I was super careful with mine and was so upset that the wings came off anyway. But being a careful child I still kept the wings so when I get to clean/ revamp that pony I'll have to see if I can re-fix them with my adult skill!
Thank you so much for that link! I have a Rosedust who looks a little lonely without her wings. Your Starshine looks lovely! Did you rehair her or is that her original mane/tail?
i used to buy those little gen4 blind bags all the time while i was in college, i still have most of them somewhere i'm sure! i always wanted to give customizing them a shot but i dont remember if i ever did or not. maybe i'll take a crack at it whenever i find them again! i know it's a somewhat unpopular opinion but i'm a big fan of the g2 ponies from the late 90s & early 00s! probably for mostly nostalgia reasons, being a 90s baby lol. i just think they look adorable! i'd love to own a Blue Pearl / Ivy someday.
I have some ponies from G1, G3, and G4. The G1 ponies are baby Moon Dancer with a pearlescent shimmer. She was a mail-order pony I sent away for when I was like eight or nine years old. I’ve also got Twice as Fancy Dancing Butterflies, one of my faves as a kid. I recently had the pure dumb luck of being on eBay at exactly the right time to score a Baby TAF Dancing Butterflies, which was also mail order and really hard to find in good condition for a reasonable price. Even the ones in poor condition go for a few hundred dollars when they show up at all. And the one I found is pretty much in perfect condition for just over $100. Perfect paint, no damage or markings, silky hair… maybe I should have bought a lottery ticket while I was at it.
I had to look at the picture of the last of the MLPs the Bureau of Toyland Management says remain around here and it's just the adult Fancy we have. I don't think any of the babies are yellow. I'm glad you get the one you missed out on now
I recently purchased my fav G1 pony, Confetti. I used to have them as a child, felt nostalgic ang bought them plus 2 baby unicorn: one with stars and a moon and one with stars and a comet on their back
Cool, I was a bit too young to remember them in the packaging. I have seen photos of unopened box ponies and it looks like they pulled the forelock down the face and over the nose too (I was curious how they did that bit separately). I was thinking maybe the factory set and cut the manes before packing but now im curious if they packed them with wet hair? I've definitely made the mistake of cutting the mane before styling it which is making it harder (lesson learned! ). Anyway, I'll try again when I feel less frustrated One little tidbit I did read somewhere is that the original manes were machine sewn in! I would love to see that and how it works but I guess factories have to keep their secrets! Yes, i've replaced the mane and tail as the original colours were faded (red/pink hair seems to also suffer the same fading issues as pink resin!). I tried both the thread method and re-root tool method with previous custom ponies and I prefer the tool, it's less of a faff I also revamped the cutie mark as it had rub/rust, fortunately micro glitter paints are easy to get hold of nowadays! Nice to see some love for G2s! I really like the bodies on them, the proportions are pleasing and they have some nice poses. Sadly the head shapes/faces don't click for me but it's interesting to see the different styles of each generation
See, I stopped collecting MLPs after a teacher pulled aside (in the SECOND GRADE I was NINE FFS) and told me I was too old to play with dolls. Hooray for maturing early. To prove I was a proper "adult," I enlisted my siblings, and we destroyed all of my toys. We even set my Barbie dreamhouse on fire. I had all the greats, too - a ton of G1 MLPs that we shaved and decapitated, Barbie Peaches 'n Cream and several others who are worth a lot of money now that we shaved, decapitated, ripped up their clothes, and thoroughly destroyed... No. I'm not bitter. Not at all. So I missed G2, G3, and G4. I didn't get back into MLPs until G5 when Basic Fun started re-releasing the toys of my childhood. I would have loved G2. I have a couple very much loved ones that need significant restoration, and I'm looking forward to it.
OMG… It’s too bad your teacher didn’t get to see all that maturity. I collected them when I was nine too. Thankfully, my teachers left me alone. I still have my childhood collection. Too many to list. I display them proudly with my bjds.
@MaleficentMrsofEvil Your teacher would have gotten a talking to by me! I see kids bringing their toys to school all the time and all I do is warn them about having them out when they shouldn't and to keep them safe (too many sticky fingers these days). Kids are supposed to play with toys! But then I am the teacher who also probably knows what your toy is (I really love watching toy unboxing on youtube).
Thank you, @brightberry and @jessholy - I appreciate it. Jessholy, you sound like a great teacher! I would be too tempted to whip out my own toys and play with the kids.
@MaleficentMrsofEvil Nah, I'm too busy doing my job to play with them - plus I never get to go out to recess. But if they had MLP - oh I would be asking them who their pony was! I had a childhood friend who had like everything G1 - I mean the Castle Playset, other playsets - but they were all housed kind of like a collection. My ponies are still in a giant tupperware bin - they used to live in a basket!
I love also G1 and G2, but my favorites were the G3s, especially the customs. at one point I tried my hand at it. As it turns out I'm really bad at painting Do any of you who collect custom ponies have any favorite customizers who sell their ponies?
I have a few. Most of them circle the MLPTP (My Little Pony Trading Post) forum. At least, that's where I see a lot of custom ponies specifically. I just got in a box of accessories, clothes, and dirty dirty ponies. I'm doing a little Dawn scrub down then an Oxyclean dunk to take care of any stubborn stains. Then comes the conditioner. And finally my favorite part, the brushing!
Thanks, I joined the TP! I couldn't find any custom pony who speaks to me yet, but I got my first (non-bait) pony and did my first reroot she is Tea Leaf~ Spoiler: one more picture
I gotta dig out my collection. I got Moondancer when the pegasi and unicorns first came out, and I have 50-sh total of original childhood ones, including a Posey with only slightly bleached out hair.
There's someone on Insta who does the most amazing MLP customs - there's a black one with red/orange/white fire spots, and they rerooted the hair to match the fire spots. I love it so much. I want to repaint all my MLPs now.
Me! I've had my ups and downs with pony collecting but I still love them. I had G1 as a child, collected G4 when the series was out, sold most of my G4 collection and tried re-buying them over the past 1.5 years. I'm planning on letting them go again soon though. I'm currently mostly interested in the Basic Fun repros and HQG1C currently, but not looking to expand my collection too too much. I am planning on attending Pony Friends Forever convention this November and I'm on the MLPTP (Flitter).
@Nell I adore the Basic Fun Repros too. It was a dream come true seeing G1 ponies in stores again. I was pretty young the first time and had to wait for my birthday to get a new pony. Buying my own ponies is one of the very few benefits of being an adult. My favorite gen is G1 but, G3 is my 2nd favorite. Here are all of my Gen 3 ponies aside from a in package Butterscotch. Not too many so it makes it easy to photo them all together. The dark orange is Basic Fun.
Adorable collection @brightberry The one on the left is Autumn Crisp, right? So perfect for this time of year.
Thank you I had to look it up, but that one is Autumn Skye. Autumn Crisp is also very pretty. She’s purple.
