Okay, so I have two big projects going on right now and I'm going to post them both here since one I don't think is big enough for it's own thread and the other is only halfway finished. I have a minor obsession with demons and crazy looking dolls, and I just got that itch to make another demon character (or two) after taking like a year break from the last big project. so my first project was to create a new character named Acadia. Here's the reference picture I sketched up and my poor victim, a feeple65 Ingrid that was not working for the original character I got her for (excuse the half done faceup) for this project, only the faceplate is going to be modded, I ordered some fairyland demon wings when Rick was released and I wanted to keep this project somewhat small. I'm not even going to attempt the skin color change- it's not worth the effort to me. Maybe some day, but for now, dyeing and me are not friends. For the second project, it' been a more long term thing. It's one of my most beloved characters who I've been working on shelling for a couple years now and finally have enough pieces together to do. Here's my reference sketch of Ari: I've ordered lots of pieces and parts (ears, horns, a custom colored body, doll hooves, etc.) and I finally have enough pieces to start on this. While there's still a ton to do with this, today I'm just working on connecting the hooves I bought to the custom colored body. Again, my unfortunate victims for this project: a custom colored impldoll MGB body (side note: this is probably my favorite body in terms of poseability). She luckily came with her feet detached, which helped save me a step. And some Creamsoda BJD cassie hooves. I forgot to take pictures before I started so here they are part way through my first step (will explain what I was doing here later). I'm going to be building a new joint for this for both proportioning and poseability. Okay! with all that out of the way, next post is all about Acadia!
For Acadia, the first thing I had to do was drill in wire. I measured across the head to get the spacing right, and then attached jewelry wire as the base for her 4 horns and for creating the shape for the ears. you can see the super chunky epoxy of this layer, I was just trying to get the base to stay on at this point, everything else was secondary. here's the first proper block then I sanded and shaped the ears to be more elf (demon?) like Here she is post sanding! and ready to paint! the Rick wings came right as I was finishing up the sanding so I was able to get a picture of her all together! And here she is all color matched and painted! She still needs her wig and outfit but I'm putting that off for now. I'll post here though once she's all put together. As for mods though! Acadia is all finished!
Now to the other mess For the Creamsoda hooves, I first needed to cut out and sand down the existing joint. I decided it would be easier to extend the legs to fit the existing double joint that the MBG body already had so that first single joint had to go! Here you can see my idea in action, I'm just using apoxie to build a new joint around the existing knee joint. and much uglier photo of me making sure that the joint is flush with the new built part. it's still in that chunky phase but next up I'll be working on making this much more aesthetic. Also building up the hooves, the hooves are too small for my taste so I'm going to need to make them big
You're so talented! It's incredible to see the amount of progress in these pictures. I think it's always the most fun using dolls to shell OCs. Not to mention -- your digital art is absolutely incredible!!
Yeah! I know you’ve already seen all these but I wanted to make a proper post cataloguing it all! Thank you so so much!! I love shelling ocs, my whole collection is just random characters from my head thank you! I can’t wait to post more!!
Update on the hooves! Everything has been pretty boring since it just is going back and forth, sanding and adjusting and all of that. I took a good bit of pictures but I realized when reviewing them that they all look kind of the same so I'm just going to go over the main points. Just a mobility test, lots of back and forth to make sure that the leg would look the way I wanted, this was pretty early on since It was easier to correct things now than later. and here are the sanded pieces! They still need to be smoothed out more and sprayed with some primer (and then sanded again...) but they're looking pretty good so far! Here you can see some of the problems, it's not totally flush with the joint but it's almost there, I think I'm going to try to use some tamiya paste to fix that last little bit but we'll see how it goes! also got started on 3D sculpting some new hooves for the doll, I really don't like the hooves that the creamsoda legs came with so I just decided to sculpt my own. This is still a rough draft right now but more to come. Also Omake bonus still working on acadia, she now has her wig started, no clue when I'll get around to finished it
Doll blood and guts everywhere, but it doesn't phase you! You are a fearless doll surgeon! You know just what you want, and you can create it! Wow! I'm too timid to ever attempt something so daring! Can't wait to see more!
I have been following this thread but haven't yet commented till now. I just wanted to wish you luck! The mods look great so far and are encouraging to me, as I plan to do some mods myself.
This is really amazing work I am excited to follow your progress on the projects! Also I just love the characters you have planned out!
sorry I forgot to update here! Acadia is finally done! here she is with her faceup and all together! also xaenyth has been done but heres his pic anyway the goat legs didn't end up working because the epoxy was too weak for such an important joint, so any movement ended up causing problems. I decided to sculpt my own goat legs later and 3d print them when I have the space post move. but the girl they were meant for came out beautifully anyway. I meant to shell a different character but I realized I'd have to sculpt my own head or do heavy modding and I just haven't been up to modding. So the body was stolen by a new character instead. bonus unnamed demon that I painted the hands and face for. I'm happy to listen to any suggestion for the guy on the rights name. the girl on the left is Luci, not technically a demon. also link in case any of the images aren't working
