I made these using silicone molds and 2-part resin. I have a bit of prior resin experience - nothing to write home about, but it probably helped some! oh, and they're 10/5mm, 12/5mm and 12/6mm. Demo on a blank Leeke Chloe, cause my kids are all getting repainted atm. Feel free to leave critiques or tipps! Do you like them? Maybe I'll share more at a later point. I'm definitely making more for myself and friends.
Wow! Those eyes look amazing ! I’ve always wanted to try making my own ones, but was always hesitant about the process. Now you get to make any eyes you want do you have any tips on how to get started?
Ohh, thank you! I got most of my supplies on aliexpress, but I'm sure you can get them other places. These are my tips: - Opt for molds with the iris sculpted in, saves you the work of having to carve em out. I think it's easier for beginners. - I also recommend 2-part resin over UV resin. Depending on the size of eye, you'd have to cure it in several increments with the UV, and I find it tends to be kinda finnicky, just in general. Then again, that might just be me and my subpar UV lamp, though. - When you pour your resin, you wanna start with just a little bit around the iris and move it around with a toothpick/other tool to be sure it's in all the crevices without any bubbles. Tap it on your table a couple of times to make any bubbles rise to the top, so you can pop them. Then you can pour the rest, and repeat the tapping process. - When you do get a bubble in your whites, putting a blob of resin where the gap is and popping it back in the mold to cure again can save it! sometimes it doesn't work, but seeing how it only takes a tiny bit of resin, it's worth the try. - Watch some videos on it! These were some my hot tips that are sometimes glossed over, but anything else you might wanna know should be out there. Probably also some wisdoms that I don't know yet. - Oh and don't neglect your own safety. That means wearing a respirator and gloves when working with uncured resin. Some people don't talk about this, maybe because they take it for granted, but definitely protect your health.
Thank you so much for the tips! I’m really excited to try it I’ll have to look around more for materials and videos before I do it just always looked so difficult I never got the courage to try it.
A tip i got from a friend just a couple weeks ago, you can buff the surface of the eye with a nail buffer and put uv nail polish on top, the eyes dont get dirty and if they do, you can simply wipe them with a cloth without residue! On top of that they get a really nice shine.
You did a great job! I do arts/crafts product reviews as a side gig. I can tell you from testing over a dozen UV resin products and molds that not all of them are the same, some never cure right and some work differently depending on the lamp. I'm so happy you mentioned to wear PPE, because uncured resin is quite toxic, as is any sanding and dust that may result. I love the stars with the pink background. They are stunning and look great in your dolly.
Those are very cute and amazing for your first eyes! Itll be exciting to see how you improve as you keep making them since theyre already so lovely
