My first Modding Project! +Finally Finished!! 7/5+

Apr 22, 2007

    1. Ok so i received a broken recall head from the dz contest. (DZ replaced the broken one) but i figured id use the broken one to use as my first modding victim.

      the victim:

i'm gonna take pics of my progress...i should have gotten a better pic of this one...but i got excited and just started! LOL!

The questions. I evened out the eyes, by enlarging them...but i'm thinking i want to sand the nose, chin and possiably the cheek bones...what are the steps i should take to do this?

Like what grit papers should i use??i have dry wet of 600 and a 1000. but i need something rougher for the major sanding...suggestions?

      thanks ahead of time.

      5/13/07 PROGRESS

Well i decided to do some more with the hand, so i went on ahead and sanded the nose, cheeks, chin and even a tiny bit of the lips. I know she looks startled...those are 20MM eyes...i guess she needs 22MM...having no eye lids makes it a bit diffcult too...i'm in the process of giving her a temporary face up to see if it softens her expresion any...so any advice would be appreciated! :)

      7/5/07 FINISHED

Well Akeelah is finished now! Like i said in my bump, I sent her head to Para-chan for a face-up, and she also did some light finishing sanding and added some apoxy eye-lids to her...but very subtle amount. just to give her a hint of eye lid. then she did a beautiful job at a face-up. So now PICS!

Tell me what you think! :D

    2. You need something stronger. I would suggest at least a 220, if not stronger. I use 220 for primary sanding, and 600 for smoothing. ^^ I whipped out the 60 for Weros' breast removal, but only use that for serious modding. :)

      Good luck!

    3. oooh thanks guys!!! Your weros is awesome by the way!!! XD

    4. The resin sands much faster than you think it would, so take care. Also I like nail sanding sponges. You can get them from medium to very fine grit.
Have you thought about repairing the damage. I used Acrylic nail kit to repair some eyes on a Soah.

    5. I haven't had any trouble starting at 320 grit, but I do tend to carve down to approximately where I want to be. Saves time and resin dust. :)

Speaking of which, wear a dust mask!

    6. Ah! well i've already modded the eyes open. i wanted to do something interesting. i want to make the head more feminie. :D

    8. The red is the before pics? I love the green pics! So pretty!

    9. well actually the red is yet another head that i'm selling for a friend cause she has no access to the forum

    10. Larger eyes will fix the startled look, and I LOVE the sanding you did on her nose...it looks much more feminine. Dollzones have such pointy noses, don't they?

    11. Looks scared of what you are going to do next. hehehehehe. But yes I agree that the larger eyes will probably fix that, at least some. I will be curious as to where you decide to paint the brows, since if they fit on the normal ridge, I think they will look odd.

    12. thanks! i thought a cuter button nose would be more feminine. :)

yes i need larger eyes unfortunatly i dont have any at the moment. it shall be interesting.

    13. Nice job! I don't think you need larger eyes. You can probably position them differently to get rid of the startled look.

    14. If you have her looking a little more up, I find that will also fix the startled look.

    15. Thanks! i will try that!

Apperantly your not alone thinking this. :P

    16. I think she'll look less startled with eyelashes, too - even the faceup will help, when you do it.

      I think :-)

    17. Looks good so far :)

    18. thanks alot! Its my first serious mod.

    19. I agree with the people before: The mods look great! I think she'd look good with worried eyebrows, that could get rid of the suprised look.

      EDIT: Wups... Did I revive a dead thread? O_O;

    20. nah i just didnt notice someone bumped it. :P Actually shes out for a face-up to my good friend Para-chan. parachan did the other recals face-up...so since their brother and sister i figured it would be appropriate. she may or may not be adding a tiny amount of eye-lid to her to make her less startled. i havent decided yet.

Thanks for the comments though! :)

    21. She looks great!

    22. thanks! i mailed her off to get a face-up by the same person who did her brother...so that they look similar like siblings. :)

    23. Well i guess i should post pics of her finished shouldnt I?

I sent her to Para-chan, the same person who did my other Recal's face-up...i want them to look like siblings. :) She also did a few touch up mods for me, she evened out my sanding which i still think i did a good job on...and she added a touch of apoxy eyelids, so it wasnt completly just eye holes...and then did her face-up and added eye lashes of doom! XD She's soooo pretty now!! Definatly gypsy material in my eyes:
