My first head

Oct 27, 2006

    1. Hello everybody!

      I am new here and haven't actually had much real exposure to bjd dolls except through the computer screen and drooling all over the keyboard.. I am really impressed with all the hand made bjds in this forum so I am trying to sculpt one in clay.. :")

      I haven't gotten any eyes, so hopefully I will be able to correct the eyewells and add eyelids, brow ridges and so forth when I get hold of a couple of eyeballs :D well there are lots of imperfections(eyes, lips, nose, I could go on and on), hardly symmetrical at all.. but here's half a head at any rate XD

      unbalanced in part to the different length of face on each side.. ^^;;

      input extremely welcome, the clay is still damp to make changes :"D

    2. Welcome^^ That looks pretty good for a first:) for as long as you don't have eyes, you could go down to the hobbystore and get yourself some wooden ball beads of the same size as the eyes you want, and use them as substitutes to push in the eyewells with (you'll probably need ball beads for joints anyway, if you're making a full BJD). I did that myself, and it worked pretty good. You will have to resculpt the eyelids and such though, if you do it that way. When I pushed in my beads, the whole eye area got deformed first, but it did the trick. There's also special eyetools out there, which basically look like a pencil with a rubber ball stuck to the tip.

      Good luck:) !

    3. Wow, looks a m a z i n g for a first try! I can't come with my good advise of pointer as I never have sculpted and cast my own doll, but what Shuri said sounds pretty solid, and I figure that is the easiest way to get eye sockets and joints symmetrically done :)

    4. Thanks for the advice!

      I do intend on sculpting the whole body so the beads definitely sound like a good idea, hopefully the hobby shop will have them in stock ^^ I shall keep a look out for the eye beveler as well :"D
