Aesthetics My first faceup! Critiques welcomed.

May 6, 2020

    1. This is my first ever faceup! I am pretty proud of how it came out, but I still would like any advice or commentary on it. I had a hard time keeping the lip color even. That was the hardest part :(
I had a lot of fun doing the eyeliner and lashes. Lashes bring everything together and they're just so cute on dolls! Thanks for stopping by.

I ordered some clothing for her from Dollmore that should be here in a week or so. I'll post her official Doll profile then, but here's Lana for now :D

    2. I’m not a faceup artist so I don’t have any tips. In my non-professional opinion she looks gorgeous though! Especially your first try!!

    4. You did an amazing job with the matte lipstick! I would say my only advice is to use a lighter touch with the lower eyelashes. The shading and eyeshadow are great!

    5. Yes; I messed up on one and it all went downhill from there
      Thank you :chibi

    6. This is so great for your first faceup! I think for next time, doing lashes in more than one layer, and with a smaller brush will give a nice effect (and different colors, or lighter and darker versions of the same color to create more depth), the lashes being all the same color and line thickness kinda makes them all blend together visually. I think also for her eyeshadow, to get a more blended, softer look (if that's a look you'd like to go for!) don't put the pastel where you want it to fade out to initially, but lower, then blend upward with a light hand to where you want the eyeshadow to fade out. I also think you did a wonderful job with getting the lipstick even! Doing full opaque matte lipstick is really hard to get even, but I think maybe planning out the outline with a watercolor pencil beforehand can help you decide the placement and allow you to play around a bit with the shape before using acrylic. I'm excited to see your future work! :3nodding:

    7. I think It's really pretty! I don't do faceups myself but personally I would go lighter on the lips. otherwise its absolutely adorable!

    8. I think this is a great first try! I love the lip color, and while I can see that it isn't perfectly symmetrical, I don't think it's distracting at all, and is good the way it is :) I agree with others that the lower lashes are too heavy. Use the thinnest paint brushes you can find (some people use nail art brushes, but Volks also sells some) and water down your paint to an inky consistency. It still takes practice, but it'll make it much easier!

    9. Thank you! I have really small brushes and I'm not sure where to find even smaller ones. It'll be a hunt I think. I didn't think about lining them first. That's probably easier :XD: Thank you for your advice, it will be helpful for my next faceup.

I was going for dark lips for her goth aesthetic.

I will check Volks. I found the smallest brushes on amazon possible but they don't seem to help. It could just be my heavy hand tho :? Thank you!
