hi!! after seeing so many people making their own dolls, i decided to give it a go :P so here's my not so finnished doll, she's still missing part of her head and eyes. i'll post some more comments later and now the important thing: the photos (sorry for the quality) tell me what you think and have a nice day
She's very cute and she seems like quite a flexible one. I love how you made her body - it's so sweet and curvy. She looks very cool being transparent and it's a neat idea, but at the same time I still miss being able to see her features, especially the face, in an opaque version. But she's definitely cool - she reminds me of a little sprite that can take the shape of an icile whenever she wants. Nice work
What a great idea! Maybe if you put a solid color behind her, like red or black you would be able to see her better. What brand of resin did you use and have you thought of applying transparent colors to it? Buena suerte!
Wow! I really like the concept, you did a really good job on! She is cute, and has a great face! I'm intersting to see how she will look with eyes and wig!
That's fantastic but is a little hard to see the features, maybe you could tint the resin ever so slightly in a colour you like but so it is still transparent. Have you made one in an opaque resin that we could see for comparison?
i think it's still called resin. a type of resin anyway. when i went to the shop they had 3 different kinds: one that was an imitation of glass, but it was 3 times more expensive; the one i bought, slitly yellowish and work as magnifier glass; and a more usual one, opaque and sick yellow. i liked the transparent one, also i thought it would be the easiest to dye if i want to.
thank you!! she reminds me of an water/ice spirit as well. i thought about getting her some blue strings, like water flowing inside . i think it's still called resin. a type of resin anyway. when i went to the shop they had 3 different kinds: one that was an imitation of glass, but it was 3 times more expensive; the one i bought, slitly yellowish and work as magnifier glass; and a more usual one, opaque and sick yellow. i liked the transparent one, also i thought it would be the easiest to dye if i want to.
lol, yes i've tried to dye the resin with red watercolor and it came out as pink caramel, now i'm thinking of casting the whole doll like that not sure if it will look well though gracias! do you mean to paint her inside? i'm not sure about that because she is quite irregular inside, i'm afraid it won't look right, maybe if i smooth it first... i bought the resin in a small shop, i think they get it directly from fabric as there's nothing written on the bottle, just resin, but i'll ask for it's full name the next time i go there yes, i miss her face as wall hopefuly when i paint her it will look better yess, but being the resin slightly yellow it turns the blue into smothing greenish (and it looses transparency), i'll have to work out how to avoid that
thank you for so many answers. i'm reall glad you liked her not yet but i definitly will, maybe will make another head as well. the next problem will be the eyes, since they could look a bit odd on a transparent face and i'll have ti fix them there with something transparent as well
She looks great! I was planning to cast a transparent doll around summertime and it's nice to see how the final product potentially looks like. I'm going for a more cold cyber look, whereas your girl looks very warm and sweet. I'd love to see your girl with a faceup. For eyes, I was thinking of holding them in place by drops from the gluegun - the glue tends to get transparent and hardens after a while so removal would just need slight picking and scraping. This needs further experimenting, though.
haha. cant wait to see what you do about the eyes! maybe albino/pupil-free clear glass? and what about clothes? lol
Looking forward to more progress and pictures. Suerte!
This is really awesome!!! So unique and amazing...seriously...ahhh so nice >< I can't wait to see more of her!
You could always blush or paint her face to be more opaque and fade out/blend into the transparent areas, so you get her face's details, hide the eyes and can paint her face :3
I love how she's not just a straight waist, that can only turn side to side, or at least looks like that and lacks shape. You have this well done round end in socket connection to the hips... it makes for such a fluid and natural body line. How inspiring! She poses so well. I've always loved transparent things, she's so beautiful and unique. I think Mandiiv's fade out/ blend of opaque to transparent would be just stunning, even though she's awesome how she is. I can't wait to see how she progresses.
wow, never thought there'd be a bjd that's actually transparent. It looks great though I do agree with other about being able to see features, but as they say, ya live and learn. She poses so well XD can't wait to see the finished results. Although I'm wondering if you're using the same resin I'm thinking of. Around here we have something like a clear resin type that's not as pricy etc. like a epoxy resin from Easy Cast (although I've heard it's terrible to use in a casting for dolls) if you've managed to make it work, kudos for you ^^
angmasuzy , i'd like to see your doll as well.it will be interesting to see how different the transparent dolls can look :P for eyes i thought to use white glue, it also becomes transparent when it dries. i'll have to experiment yumenoir , i think i'll cast some beads i have and try different color to see which one works best. lol, the clothes are difficult, should they also be transparent, white or colored? hehe Bruny, si, queria probar hacerlos yo misma y luego pintarles la pupila encima. para teñir la resina utilizo acuarelas liquidas, son sinteticas diferentes de las tradicionales, pero como son transparentes van bien. pero ojo, si echas demasiado la resina no se seca. Mandiiv, yeah, that's a good idea. i should try it. but i've never done it before. i tried painting other parts but when i scratch a bit the paint falls of. i use a spray for fixing pastels. i guess i'll have to buy a special one. :P yoru_miyabi, she's 19 cm tall. that's good because i didn't need much material but it's very bad for sculpting because she's soooo tiny. momo-chan84, the original sculpt was made clay and i got it wrong many times and had to repeat the same parts several times to get them right. O.o
hehe, yes . but sometimes i wondered why i was making three parts and not just two. always have to make it more complicate to myself well, the only thing they wrote on the bottle is that it's for industrial use for casting, that it contains estireno (venilbenceno), that's spanish and i don't know how to translate it. the resin is some sort of polyester thing. is it very different from epoxy? ( it smells sweet and after casting it stays slightly stiky for a while so if touch her it leaves a finger print, it also dissolves with acetone. ) thanks for all who commented! i'm very surprised so many people liked her
i should the doll to my friend yestarday and she was so afraid of her. i know she doesn't have brains or eyes yet but she was even afraid of her hand also, she'll stay without a headcap for a while because i stepped on it and it broke in small peaces (after i made half of the mold) so i'll have to make a new one and to buy more silicone because i have just a tiny bit left ( for the other half of the mold ) but i casted her a friend: i tried different colors. the transparent parts were supposed to be yellow but it just all disappeared. the odd textured are from the water (i was using a pressure pot)
Awhh! they're so sweet.. and sorry about the headcap, I hope you'll be able to make another, even better one
Owari, Tus joyas preciosas!! They look like gems! The white one is the diamond and the colored one is emerald, saphire and ruby!
mmm... edible BJDs.... OH WAIT. that could be v. dangerous. I wish someone would make candy-BJDs. hahahah. Anyways, I love her colorful friend!
Ah! Your dolls are amazing! I am just enchanted.. the colorful one is so awsome! *sighs* I love the transparent resin idea, thats just brilliant^^
They are just gorgeous!! But tell me honestly how wierd would it be... edible dollies *hang on I have a bit of head-cap stuck in my molars* LMAO thats just too funny to contemplate!!
What a neat idea! The transparency gives a unique effect. I love how the light shines through. The colorful dollie reminds me of gummi bears... the really good kind. ^^;;
