Today I finally started to make my own bjd, using La doll premix and some sculpting tools. It was really nice and fun when I handling the La doll, so smooth and light. Now I understand why the price is quite expensive, but it's really worth than DAS clay. View attachment 490 View attachment 491 View attachment 492 I made the body first in a basic shape. While waiting to dry, as you can see, the crack that was small at first become more larger and noticeable. Now it has more crack than the photo shown. The crack is around the butt and stomach though, the most thinnest and un-supported part in the body. should I just add more clay while sculpting the detail or destroy this one, make it into slur and make a new body?
Just smush some wet clay into there and smooth it out, it'll be fine. As you add more layers of clay to add detail and refining, it'll help reinforce any cracked areas, and you can fill in some of the core once you hollow it.
It's good to work in thin layers, that way it doesn't take a long time for the clay to dry through and it wont crack as much. I've never worked with la doll, but most clays you can fill in the cracks and smooth it over. It wont be as strong as a solid piece of clay, but it will work if you are just making a mold base. It depends on what you are going for as a final product. ^^
Thanks for the tips everyone , this week I try to add the clay, remove falling pieces from the crack and reshape the body like butt and waist. View attachment 497 Anyone can recommend me a good anatomy book with lots of slim, slender woman body and clear photo? I only found lots of muscle man body, for woman, it is either muscular or chubby. It make hard to know which muscle should be shown on my doll, like the back torso I make right now. Can anyone give me advice and critique maybe?
She looks lovely! Good work. ) The only thing I can suggest is looking online for pictures of women's backs. That's what I do when I need a reference. Or maybe you can look at books for drawing poses, rather than anatomy. I hope you figure it out soon!
Sorry for the late reply and thank you very much, DollsEyes. I got some art books for woman pose and been sculpting while looking at it. While my progress is super slow because of my laziness + other works, at least I finally sculpted a torso that look decent, remove the inside and cut it into 3 part. View attachment 626 But I'm still confused with this whole anatomy work when looking from the side. View attachment 627 View attachment 628 What do you all think? Is this weird or not? Does a girl body curve look like this? Any tips is very much welcomed
I think the front looks better but the side looks odd here is a pick of a woman with a side profile I found: http://d.lib.ncsu.edu/adore-djatoka...:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:jpeg2000&url_ver=Z39.88-2004 it should be less of an exact C shape. Maybe pad out the butt a bit and make the angle on the back less of a curve and more sharp where the shoulder blade ends.
