THANKS!! , i really love that people like her sorry right now i really have no idea , i dont know how much material i'll be needing etc....and if i'll succeed in even casting her ....and than if it is of enough quality to sell....so many ifs so i really i don't know yet Thanks , i hope the casting process will go ok!! that's all new to me
Hehe thanks^^ than i'll try post often so people have something new to see thank you!! hope you will like her too when she is finished this thursday i started the mold of my head cause i'm desperate for doing the faceup. First i had to get a few things, it was really raining heavily that day( i so hate the dutch weather...want to live in another country someday) so i postponed getting the items till the afternoon, not that it stopped raining but it was getting late and like i said i was desperate of trying to cast. Well i remembered reading something about rain is bad for casting, so to be sure i send Carol of alumilite a mail, she was very helpfull telling me that rain has no effect on the silicone rubber but it does however on casting resin....but i was just starting the first part of the mold so only rubber required(gonna make a 3 part head mold)so i had no excuse to stop now. Well i thought let's do this right, let's read the documentation first which came with it ,normally i'm to impatient and just start thinking i got the general i dea how it should be done so GO GO GO and than finding out later on...eeeee must have done something wrong. Well glad i did cause i thought the ratio 1:10 was based on volume...but it was based on weight. Ok i'm going to fast first what i did was making the head ready for pouring the first part here is what it looked like i used playdoh for the bedding of the head.....man that stuff sure smells nice!!!! Glad my parents didn't give that stuff to me as a kid...i sure would have tried a few bites. Well getting this part done i needed to know how much rubber i needed, well i read somewhere to put rice in it and after take the rice out put it in a measuring jug and voila you know how much you need. well DON'T DO IT LIKE THIS IF YOU ARE USING PLAYDOH!!! The next part i didnt take a cam shot from.....i was to ghdioqhwoqw getting all the grains of rice out who all got stuck in the playdoh. well i used the same kind of method after but first used a piece of plastic to cover the mold, i'll never make that mistake again. Well after i did my calculations and poured the rubber. It was only a light color pink and i thought to have seen some really bright colored pink rubber somewhere.....so than started the doubt....did i do my calculations right I even send Carol a mail again about if the color was right, she was really friendly again and send me a mail that it should be a good medium pink, but if i had used to scales it must be ok. was my color a good medium pink?????.., oh the doubt!!i really was so nervous!! Well i couldnt change anything anymore now so i had to let it go. It was already late so i went to sleep...i even dreamed about the rubber being translucent and not wanting to cure(no kidding). But it was such a relief to see the measuring jug in the morning the rubber on it had nicely cured and was really elastic so i figured my mold must be ok too. The rubber has a 24 hour demold time so i could demold it late this evening it looked like this here i was already taking the lego blocks away.
here is what it looked after Than came the fun part getting the playdoy of the mold This took some time a while after it looked like this (btw where the green red playdoh still is will be my 3th piece the core of the head) I think i've cleaned it enough, i payed extra attention to the parting line. After i put some elastic strings from the top of the ears to the top of the mold ill use them as vent holes when the mold is done. than i put vaseline all over the rubber(yeah i 'still remember zidora's funny story ) and poured again, the outcome i'll see tomorrow hope to post the rest soon too.
Oooh!! o3o you must've been so nervous, but it seems like it's fun and rewarding, too <.<;; why do people always use legos for the outside bit?? o.O
yes i was really nervous,i felt my heart pounding in my chest....way to much adrenaline!!, when i was wanting to sleep it took some time normally i sleep when my head touches my pillow, but the second pour i wasn't nervous anymore. And to answer your questions, because it's easy, you can make any format moldbox you want and after reuse it again, you could use alot of things for your moldbox for instance cardboard but than you have to seal it properly cause if you have a tiny hole in your moldbox the rubber will come through it ,you can see it can come a little inbetween the lego stones and there is hardly any space between the stones ,but the rubber get's there, with lego you dont have to worry to much about that as long as you got some clay in the bottom(seen that on lolipop's site http://www.vivcore.com/dolly_daydream.html good info there).
well just a quik reply, i casted 3 times today(the head without headcap) 1 was only half cause the resin came through the parting line on my carpet XD... it was quite a mess....hmm is still a mess ...have to clean it up but but im to tired atm ill clean it up tomorrow. the second try i messed up with the color way to much color than what i'm going for(it also has some stains)but was fun trying to do a face up,on this junk mold (but its not the face up i want,i did this one is really bad just did it in 5 min just for the general idea) the 3th try and last came out supirisingly good almost no airbubbles apart from the ones on top, the head cap will hide them, so im quite pleased ill do a decent faceup tomorrow and post the pictures, i also can post the pictures of the mold if people are interested night night for now i need to get some sleep....my head is spinning...or was it cause of the resin fumes(jk i used a mask)
thanks^^ glad you like her but this was the junkcast piece yes it is but it wasnt what i was going for maybe i'll cast a tan doll later. Thanks really happy you like her, but the other one will look alot different, but really happy you guys even like the junk cast piece
ok here is what i had in mind for her in the first place....she still needs her lipgloss but i cant find it in the mess ..i really need to tidy up sorry again for the poor quality of the pictures..
*is in shock* Please tell me you are seriously considering selling some of her. She's even better now! I get excited every time I see you've posted something in here hoping its new updates!
I agree with Lupe, she's totally amazing! I'm not sure if you posted how tall she'll be? I really like her and can't wait to see her finished!
wow that skin color is simply wonderful! I love how it looks with green eyes You have done a wonderful job
WOW thats really a compliment thanks alot , as for selling her , i still need to finish her body and be able to cast that(that will take some time), so i can't yet think of selling. thanks alot too , she will be arround 60 cm i don't know precisely yet cause im still making changes to her body. Thanks alot too , i like the green eyes on her aswell , she is allowed to keep them
Oh my - she came out beautiful. COngratulations on your casts being so succesful She really is stunning and her profile is just beautiful. Good luck on the further casting. She's gonna be gorgeous.
Thanks alot zidora!!! hope i'll be just as lucky with casting of the body (when i finish it that is). you dont know it but cause of your posts of your own doll i got enough confidence to actually try to to cast,so thanks again Thanks, i'm so happy with all the responce i'm getting, seems you guys like her as much as i do
She's so gorgeous, she looks so professionally made! I love her face... I never thought I'd want a girl doll... But your's is sooo gorgeous.
She's charming! So pretty! And those ears are beautiful! Arwen approves, as she tries to get at her through the screen! A little tip to make your life easier - use waterclay instead of playdough. (IE like smooth ceramic type earth clay, the kind you fire ushally after it's dry). It's reuseable just like playdough (just keep it sealed in a plastic baggie), and when you're digging it out to clean the first half of the mold, it's easy to wash out the leftover bits with a big paint brush under a facuet.
dank je!!^^ i hope her body will turn out nice too . thank you very much it's a huge compliment , it feels kind of weird to me i inspire other people , i'm only used to be inspired by other people. really thanks alot for the compliments enpu!! thanks alot!! but now two big green eyes are staring at me ...i know what she thinks....make my arms so i can wave to arwen and make a new friend . and really thanks for the tip ill use it next time i make molds, getting playdoh of your mold is really time consuming and it left color stains on the master too, i thought about clay before but i was scared it would dry in 24 hours it takes for the rubber to cure and than i wouldn't be able get my master out easily. And btw i just love what you did with the joints of tier in mir, that's really amazing!! a normal human leg already is a challenge for me and you made such a complicated leg!!! you have really done an amazing job!!
LOL it's alright, Arwen understands. She's used to half made dollies sitting around. XD (And *blush* thank you! It was a challenge, but it came out good. ^^ Heck I'm jealous of your head skills, it's so hard for me to get the eyes symmetrical or the right shape!! >__< ) Yes it's perfectly fine! just get a good grey/whiteish waterclay that retains moisture and make sure it's damp (but not LIQUIDly X3 ) when you pour in the silicone. Since it's completely sealed in by your moldbox and silicone it keeps it from drying out (as if putting it in a ziplock container). It will not dry inside the mold in just 24 hours. ^__^ Maybe in a WEEK or two. XD *just thought of something* Is Ladoll paperclay (water soluble?)? You must be careful then using waterclay with it then if it is, I'm not sure if that type of clay hardens to a point where water can not affect it again? Or did you seal it well with gesso and sealer? Cause then it'd be okay I guess. (I always seal everything before casting with a coat of acrylic sealer to block off risk of sulfur contamination) *just wants to be sure so you don't hurt your model* o___o
woow! that's amazing! aye I should try it sometime.. but I'm scared to fail ;-; haha xD you did such a good job!
i can rinse my untreated doll pieces with water without it doing any harm, but i wouldnt know what will happen if i would soak the pieces in water for hours. And yes like you do, i also seal my finished pieces , i spray several layers of Mr.Base White 1000 after doing that i don't think water can do any harm at all. It totally makes sence what you told me about the clay not drying... i keep my opened packages of la doll clay in a plastic bag(with a damp piece of cloth)it never dries. So i'll sure use clay instead of playdoh next time
Thanks alot!! and please please try, really it is said to much but it's true practise makes perfect, so please just try,you don't want to know what my doll looked like in the beginning... You might be suprised what you can do
your doll is amazing!!! i also like her face in dark color, btw. your work is very interesting to follow. what colors are you using to paint the resin? beacause i tried watercolors and acrilycs :P but they don't dissolve 100%. well, the watercolors were fine but i put too much ...& it came out too pinkish anyway, hope you finnish your doll soon. cannot wait to see the results
♥ oh wow. she's beautiful! you've done really well with her! ♥♥♥ I've become pretty enamoured with her. I think the photo of her face in resin fresh out of the mold inspired me to dig up one of my old characters. XD I'm having the worst time getting started making my doll. *squeals* Thank you so much for posting her here!
*snuggles your girl* I was thinking of starting an SD girl of my own simply cause I can't find one who is the character I am looking for. :..( None of the shorter girls have the serious, grown up face I want her to have.
thank you for the compliment , really makes me happy that much people like her Thank you so much, the resin was already colored when i poured it, after i used rembrandt soft pastels to blush her face and do the shadows in her ears , used them too for the first base of her eyebrows and lips(well i sprayed layers of mr super clear first ofcourse and inbetween stages of blushing)after this i used acrylic paint (my mom used to paint alot so i have alot of colors to choose from but mostly i mix them to my liking) to do the under eyelashes and line the eyes, and paint her mouth and eyebrows, i used water color pencil to make lines on her mouth after. Hope this is any help to you . thanks alot!! nice you want to start with your doll again, when i started with this doll i used a tutorial on making a head (it is posted here somewhere too but i just write the link since i have it in my favourites )http://noxiv.cool.ne.jp/dreamscreator/BJD/Otino01record/eng.html and for the body http://www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~dhnoah/make_001.htm and ofcourse twiglings notes on the joints they are found in her signature I used these sites as a guide you adapt things to your personal taste and liking and there is alot of info on making doll's here on DoA to help you get started. yeah please do!! i loved your other doll , and it's true when you make your own doll you can make it exactly the way you want it to be nobody else can do that...and its FUN!!(most of the times ) Last week i have been extremely busy , work, stuff i have to do arround the house,my social live, so i had little time to work on my doll but i did some work on her however. I have been sculpting totally new arms for her cause there wasnt enough space to get the elastic through. Thats something i want to ask you dollowners what size of elastic is used to string the arms?!? , i ordered elastic for large dolls and was like 3,5 mm i believe. well that X2 has to run through the arms,i consider using only 3,5 mm elastic on the legs and use other elastic on the arms...how big are the holes in the arms of a "real bjd" from arround 60 cm?? At these times i hate it i dont own a "real bjd"myself so i can check how it has been done. here is how the arms look (they are really rough and the joints are not working as i want yet but i have to work on them some more) hehe she has a nice bellybutton now too but you guys cant see that with the nice pictures my webcam makes
ok, i'm stupid. i actually meant what do you use to color the resin before pouring it in. :P sorry. oh, but do you use mr super clear for fixing the paint as well or only for protecting the resin? i was thinking about using a pastel fixer for that...
lol no you aren't stupid i thought before you might have meant that . But to answer your question i used the colors of alumilite thats where i got my resin from also,i used native american at a real low % it gives a really nice skin color, i read somewhere that their caucasian color is somewhat pink so thats why i tried it this way(and i'm quite pleased with the result). I don't know if their colors work well with other brands of resin though.
I'll be using Alumilite resin too! Are you using the Regular or the White? It looks like you can get a really rich color from only a little dye! That's really good to know, since I need to get a bunch of colors.
i used the white resin and less than 1% color, i loved working with alumilite rubber and resin, and carol is really helpfull if you have any questions about it.
She sure is beautiful. That is stunning, why I'm not as talented as you are? : D Anyways, keep goin'!(sure you will haha) ps. I would deffinitely buy her..
how great will she be !!!!!the shot with wig make a better exemple of what she will become !!! "bravo"
woowww.....i would to do this some day. I draw often and love to here about forms of art....this would be an amazing thing to do in real life
thanks alot , and yes i will keep going i want to see her finished too, i already have thoughts about another doll after this one, but i want to finish this one first. Her body is close to completion now , just needs a little bit of work before i can cast her. Next week i hope her body will be finished(not casted cause mold making is really time consuming, and i guess i need to order more rubber to be able to cast her body, i estimate right now i don't have enough) I'm working on an armor plate atm(will be cast in resin) ,she will have some armor plates on one arm. I'll add pictures when it is finished. Thank you Thank you and please give it a try it's really fun, and if you draw it's a big plus, i think most if not all of the artists here can draw. I think paper , clay etc it's just a tool, if you have artistic talent it is just a matter of getting familiar with the material, you can do it
i just posted today i would probably finish her body next week......well today i strung her again for testing the arm joints they still aren't the way i want them(i'm focusing more on functionality now, after i'll concentrate on the aprearance) . When i put her arm in horizontal position and i let go she drops her arm cause of the weight of her arm and hand...still have to figure out a solution for that. The elbows work decent but when i take pictures i think maybe the arms are a little long...and her legs maybe to short(i already added length to her upper leg)...or her head is to big for her body... The weird thing is when i look at her rl she looks fine to me but not when i take pictures she doesn't look good. here are the pictures i took today while taking the pictures one hand and feet snapped off, so i need to repair it And somehow it took me way longer to get her to sit than last time...don't know why. Sofar she stands, but she isn't really easy to pose ...really can't let her stand on one leg or something Well right now i don't think i'll finish her body next week...i feel kinda atm, but maybe tomorrow i'll feel totally different after a good night rest
Aww, I'm so sorry you are having difficulty! I think you are right about the arms being a little long. Maybe if you made that double elbow joint smaller so that most of it was inside her arms it would make them a little shorter?P.S. I totally found a character in one of my sketch books that would be perfect for her.
thanks i think it might be a good idea^^, i'll give that a try tomorrow(i hope i will have the time) And about that character of yours, does she have a nice name..hint hint
hehe thats a nice name...it's better than "project 1" with this wig it would be white mischief I've just resized the joints a bit her arms are shorter now but, i think the trouble is in the legs , i'm gonna lenghten them again tomorrow hope that will help me get rid of the feeling she is a dwarf on photo's
I am a super picky person but i must admit this is way better then ive seen b4. It seems u have a real knack at this. If u start selling dolls i may have to hid my wallet X.x
thanks i use 18 mm eyes on her those are the only size i got so i haven't tried other sizes yet and about the wig, she is wearing a L size wig of leekeworld, she has a big head even those wigs are snug.
Ok last night i said i thought it was in the legs.. well i guess i'm right i lenghten her legs quite a bit. First her upper leg than i put sticks in the legs and took a photo, i added her feet with photoshop, just copied the feet of the other photo and ajusted the color cause lighting is way different during day time. After i lenghten her under legs too, but cant make a photo now cause if i'll make her stand now they will be ruined cause the clay is still wet. The overall shape of the leg needs alot of work now(they are to thin atm, and i need to sculpt knees again), but cant do that with the clay all wet, have to wait till it's dry so i can ajust it again. Well hope to post photo's of her new legs soon. My mood is much better now she lost her dwarf looks But what i didnt expect her is that her lenght is much more than the original 60 cm , my mom measured her while i was working on her ,she is arround 67 cm atm But i like her much more than before now somehow the resolution changes alot with this image in my photobucket account it shows up normal http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb46/milda_photos/
I hate to say it since you are happy with her again... The length is a lot better, but I think the knee joint looks a little too low on her leg now.
thanks i'll work on her till she is exactly how i like her to be, just alot of bumps along the road. No i'm happy with honest feedback thanks and you are right but i'm not far off at this length(i'll probably change it a little with a knife after it has dried), keep in mind that in the photo she doesnt have length added to her under legs also the shape of the upper legs isnt right yet. also i cut off the overlapping bits of knee who were on her underlegs before(they will be sculpted again). so it does look kinda weird but it will change i promise
Today i worked on the legs to me it already looks less weird now, i still need to sculpt the knees on the underlegs but have to wait till the clay dries again tomorrow i'll probably work on her again Well i just post the little steps forward When i have done the legs i'll concentrate on the arms again , i hate the shape they are right now and i need to work on the joints again...but i've seen enough clay for today
^_^ WOW...such a Beauty ^_^ I"m really impressed and just wanted to say that your Doll is Stunning ^_^ and yourself as well ^_^ can't wait to see this girl out to completion...and yes I agree...if and when you may decide to make her for sale O.O watch out wallet...
