My first BJD ( anthro ) joint advice needed!

Oct 20, 2011

    1. So I decided to make my first doll but...I have a huge problem with the joints, especially the hip/thigh joint...
It's still not polished, the clay takes forever to dry :( So I hope I can make the boobies look a lot more natural :XD they sure won't stay that way, but I made them bigger on purpose so i have something to work with when I polish.
but yeah...the joints :dead I was aiming for those joints were you can bend the leg/arm all the way back ( see pic at the bottom )
I made a cat anthro since a human head would suck :o so it will look a lot better with an animal head...Can't sculpt a human head :pout

    2. I don't know if it'll help, but here's a tutorial a did on double joints(the type you're showing) http://batchix.livejournal.com/826827.html

I also have this one, which shows how to make the sphere part of the ball-joint using press molds and wooden spheres. http://batchix.deviantart.com/art/Ball-joint-Tutorial-2-157425903

If you can't find the correct sized spheres, Firefly and I both have 3d modeled some spheres and uploaded them to shapeways.

at any rate, good smooth spheres for your joints is really important to your doll being able to pose and stand.

I'm not sure what type of clay you're using but if it's paperclay you can pop it into the oven at a low temp like 200 degrees to speed up the drying process. Put it in and check it about once an hour until it's dry.
