Large My Crisis Core Sephiroth (Heavily Modified DIM MNM, 9 imgs)

Jun 28, 2025

    1. I custom ordered this head sculpt back when DIM decided they could make more of the same "character," as long as it was an individual order. I got two copies of the sculpt, one was considered free, so I paid way too much for them not to even do the promised 50-75 percent likeness (I believe they called it "realism," back then). I even paid extra to have them make it as small as possible, for a larger head. Yet, they ended up making it as big as possible. Lol!

      He has taken me many tries to get him slowly to my dream version of Sephy, which is the (specifically) key art version of OG Crisis Core Sephiroth. I am not close, but I feel I am slowly getting there. I fixed his left nostril, since I did a crappy job the first time, I had already built both his nostrils, as they did a horrible job on those, but I made them too asymmetrical the very first few times. I also added a bit of material to his left upper eyelid, since they made that thin as paper, it was looking like it would chip or brake off at any moment. I also added a sharper tip to his upper lip, but I feel I could have made it sharper and more symmetrical.

      I repainted him a few days ago. He doesn't have a body of his own and is way too large for my biggest dude's bod, which is 67cm tall, but scrawny and willowy as the dickens. Terrible fit, overall. That's why he is covered to the neck (he looks like an apple on a stick on this body!) and using my Kadaj's outfit instead of anything Sephy.

      Bald; they made his head a weird shape! I love him nonetheless and look forward to getting him closer to my ideal version of Sephy. His eyelashes are really that long in the game. Probably not as curling up, more like straight outward, but I don't know if I can flatten synthetic lashes.

      Edit: It seems titles can't be edited, so I will add one more photo. I was going to add seven (FFVII *wink**wink*) photos, typed nine, but now I'll add the one I forgot to even account for, which is the progress throughout the years. I like to modify my head sculpts as slow as possible. Just so I don't regret the mods later, I could do them much faster (bigger, more significant mods at once), but then I feel I can learn along the way as well. That's probably what I enjoy the most about modifying things. The learning process. (:

    2. Aah yes, I remember those infamous non-likenesses! Was involved in a group order for one, Summer Glau, the only resemblance to her that their first attempt had was the fact it had two eyes, a nose and a mouth! It was a nice face but it wasn’t hers.
      Luckily for the group being a relatively decent drawer I did some overlay drawings for the sculptor using the photos they sent showing very clearly where they went wrong as well as a few more simplified line sketches of Summer to explain her features. That did the trick and the second draft actually did look like her. I ended up selling the head a year or so after getting it as back then there weren’t the same body choices around for those huge heads….wish I’d kept it!

      He is getting there, you’re very good with subtle mods and have the right attitude doing things a bit at a time.

    3. I also joined a few Minimee GOs. I got a few head sculpts that weren't all that terrible (I might be spamming more soon! If the gross summer heat doesn't kill me first! lol!). I did some edits for some of those GO, while I was part of a few. So that DIM's Chinese sculpting team could make changes based on those. Some of the leaders/hosts on those, submitted their own it seems, without asking everyone else in the GO for approval (from what I recall, everyone had to pay for their own sculpts so it was only fair that everyone approved the changes and images submitted). Which resulted in things not going as well, as I had hoped for some of the sculpts. Oh, well. I learned about it too late, otherwise I would have probably not joined as many GO, as I did back in the day. Despite not having been part of more than three, if memory serves (if even that many!).

      The mistake I made when I got this sculpt was not waiting until DIM Korean team was sculpting the MNM heads. I know I would have gotten a much more accurate sculpt that way, they released quite a few 1:6 action figure sets and head sculpts that were amazingly accurate to the characters they were based on. If only time travel was a thing... I still need to fix/mod a lot of this dude's face, but I feel if I don't kick the bucket soon, I'll be able to get him close enough, in the not-so-distant future.

      Thank you so much for your comments, Blodeuwedd! It's always so entertaining when I find an older forum members, that can reminisce with me about the good old times, within this hobby! (:

    4. He's fabulous! He reminds of someone, besides Sephiroth. Someone well-known, like an actor. If it comes to me I'll let you know :abambi:

    5. Thank you for your comments, VickiAngela! If you do remember who he reminds you of, do tell me! I did a quick go-gle img search out of curiosity and got a lot of other Sephiroth BJD sculpts, after I framed his face specifically. Before framing just his face, I got a bunch of questionable full-bodied/jumpsuit/PVC-outfitted people with silver hair, mostly females. Lol! (;

    6. Is that Peter Weller as Sephiroth? I have no clue why I am seeing that. Or maybe it's because the bjd has a sci-fi feel and is handsome? I have seen a couple of the mods you have done on here. I forgot if you mentioned if you sculpted, in the past.
      Okay, I admit, there are probably a lot of people out there who wouldn't mind their bjd to having a cuddle with either Sephiroth or PW.

    7. Lol! I don't know why my immediate thought was Peter Weller as he looks now, at 78! Lol! DX Or maybe, that is exactly what you meant... :lol:

      I feel like it might be the super pronounced cheekbones both have, and the lip shape. My Seph has a squarer face, but I feel the camera distortion makes it look super long and pointy, so that's a me problem (sucking at taking photos with crappy cellphones). I have a hard time with people's faces. Never had an issue with anime/Japanese-video game faces, or other non-human animals but real people, I struggle to remember/retain in my mind. I always thought it was earlier sings of mental issues, but I guess I just don't recognize faces well enough. I don't have trouble with voices however, so that has saved many a time in real life, from completely embarrassing myself Infront of people I am supposed to "know." (:

      I am not a profesional sculptor and I never took classes. I have been a traditional artist (paint on canvas) all my life, and I find most art related hobbies to be intuitive enough that I can most of the time get into most without instruction. I need better tools however and probably do need to watch a tutorial or two on how to sculpt human faces. It would probably save me a lot of sanding and polishing later. I was stubborn about watching how to repaint one sixth action figures the right way, and now I can't wait to paint all my toys that way, even my BJD that I've been spamming (and my tiny that I got in 2022). I love paint though, so it is only natural -- I should have done it sooner, I can only complain about not trying it sooner!

      Thanks for your comments tinyflame! It's always fun to read and chat with other people about toys/dolls. n__n

    8. I have always enjoyed seeing photos of your Sephiroth. Some dolls are seriously 'forever projects' that we just seem to mod and work on again and again and again and again.... The face up that your guy has right now is so nice tho, it suits him so well! He's a very handsome guy indeed!

    9. Thank you very much for your sweet comments, Lotte Rotten! I feel like all my resin dolls are forever projects, because I am a weirdo. I wish I could stop looking at what's wrong, and just focus on what is not too sh1tty, but my mind doesn't work that way. Lol! I'll forever be working on most of my resin dolls, unfortunately for them. (;

    10. love that face, that look! so intriguing

    11. mmilena, thank you so much for leaving your comments! Sincerely appreciated! (:

    12. He looks so cool, like a real human version of Sephiroth rather than something overly perfected. He kind of reminds me of Michael Wincott from The Crow (1994).

    13. Gothbubbles, thank you for your comments! I feel Peter Weller and Michael Wincott both have very similar facial features and bone structure. They both have very similar lips and mouth shape as well and eyes. I don't believe either looks anything like Sephiroth, other than perhaps having similar long nose and lip proportions.

      My photos do make mine look a lot sharper faced, but he's actually pretty squared jawed. I just have very cheap cellphones and have to choose between heavy distortion or pixelation/noise. I guess I go for the former, but his eyes are somewhat smaller than they should be and I am trying not to mod those too much as I fear DIM didn't give me too much room to work with... Regardless, I guess I am still ways off if my Sephy looks so thin in the face, compared to two real life males that look quite similar in facial structure leaning towards extremely narrow/pointy-face, if my convenient face blindness is not playing tricks on me. My Sephiroth is definitely not pointy faced at all, other than his chin which I keep procrastinating on squaring off a bit, because his profile is quite spot on, if I do say so myself. I am a huge fan of the Brandon Lee's Crow film, and do enjoy hearing all these people my Sephy reminds others of, it makes me question my stubbornness about not seriously learning portraiture, and if my face blindness might actually extend beyond actual humans. I also wonder if I am adding too much realism, since that is the art style I am most comfortable with. (;

    14. I love to see your thoughts on this, your Sephiroth is amazing and it is great to see how things are going with him. Just very impressive all around. I think people are just appreciating him and he has such a striking look I think we may be trying to feel around for a connection to something familiar. The realism is special and gorgeous to me.

    15. Gothbubles, thank you so much for coming back to reply to my two-page rant! Lol! I can keep going for years online, but get two words out of me IRL, and you'll probably win the lottery! lol!

      I don't fault people for trying to find who my Sephy reminds them off. I know I do that all the time when I see actors, 3D models, art-pieces, that look familiar to me, but I can't remember why. I do that literally all the time. Unfortunately, most of the time I can't recall where I've seen a face before, because I have a hard time remembering people's faces. I have a lot of friends who let me know who dolls/figures remind them of, and then I wish they hadn't told me because I can't unsee it. Most of those dolls/figures I don't own, so it's not terrible but perhaps if I did own them, I would have a hard time making the connection in real life, because of how distorted my photos tend to look!

      I always find it interesting, to learn about people's perceptions of look alikes. Like when they released a Mila Jovovich Resident Evil film, that included an actual Leon S. Kennedy character for the first time, the director (if I recall correctly) kept saying how much the actor looked like Leon. Just because he is blond and has blue eyes... like all people who have blond hair and blue eyes look exactly the same. It frustrated me, as a huge fan of OG RE4 Leon, it made me wonder if I was blinder (at recognizing faces) than I thought, because to me the actor looks nothing like any Leon from any game or CGI film that was available at the time (or even now). I feel like I am bias as well, because I want the dolls/figures I own to look exactly a certain way, and kind of frustrated that I can't get them there. Although, I choose the slow route most of the time, to get there. DX It's nothing that bothers me of course, I don't mind if people feel my Sephy looks like X person, or X character. It's interesting to me, and I feel it adds to my motivation to get him to look more like the Sephiroth I want to own in giant form. I already own a 1:6 action figure that has a head sculpt that was a modified direct 3D print off the Remake game, so this is me just being obsessively wanting to own a Crisis Core version, with just extreme and pure obsession, because I already own a (few) Sephiroth that are as accurate to the game version, as possible in 3D form. (:

      Edit: I didn't add any photos from my newer (cheaper) phone for my Sephy either (I just added some to my Kadaj gallery post recently). I am a lazy bum. I did actually resized these back when I posted this thread, but I wanted to reduce some of the yellow cast this cellphone seems to want to add to all my resin dolls photos, but I was lazy and didn't do it, so I didn't share these then. Who's stopping me from spamming them now... I should try to reduce the yellow from them, it bothers me.
