I've tried a couple other times to make a BJD of my own, but ended up unsatisfied (the results are on my site, if you're curious ). I felt inspired after looking through this section of the forum, and I thought I'd try again I started the head tonight, using super sculpy. She's going to be a a bit smaller than MSD size, I think my design sketch thingy for the head: the actual head so far: I'm having trouble making the profile look right, especially around the mouth. hopefully I'll be able to figure it out next time I work on it. right now I'm plannig the move the nose down a little, and maybe the eyes, as well as making the nose more delicate. I'm worried that the eyes might be too far in, but I'm no sure yet... hopefully I can keep myself motivated to finish this time! any comments are appreciated
She's cute! X3 Some friendly artist advide: Make sure you add enough to make the back of her head, people have alot of skull back there, more than you think... XD ! Also, I'd make her forehead come out a liiitttle bit more about the brow ridge (just a bit). And make sure you round off the top of her head! ^^ To look more like you sketch, yea, he nose could be made a little smaller, you're right. Her eyes don't look TOO far back, a little more than ushal, but it's not enough to look bizzare or anything. You should make it to your style afterall. ^_^ keep at it! X3
Worked more on the head today. I started on the eye holes =3 I'm pretty pleased so far. her expression reminds me alot of the girl in the movie 'the secret garden'.
She's very cute! She looks a little surprised, though. It's a nice expression, if that's what you were aiming for; if not, I'd bring down the arch of her brow a bit.
oh, I see what you mean, I hadn't noticed that. I sort of like it, but I'll decide for sure when I work on her again thanks!
Please don't take this the wrong way, as I think shes absolutly adorable, but her nose make her seem a bit toll-ish. I collect trolls and they tend to have round slightly bulous noses like that. I would raise the tip of it just a bit. I think that would help alot.
Ahaha! A sculpting question, I love those... Your face is very lovely, and I like the sketch very much-it has a lot of potential ofr character. As for the profile...the forehead should be in line with the upper lip. Then the lower lip is slightly further back...then the chin. Give the lower lip volume to avoid the chin looking like its receeding or weak. Your chin is in line with your lower lip, but theres a deep groove under your lower lip. The upper lip is quite angular-its top edge is almost sharp on some people and dolls. It is actually longer than the lower lip, but shallower. The lower lip is more plump, shorter than the upper lip but deeper. Im very impressed with your sculpt so far-you have included the filtrum (groove under the nose) and the shape of the eyes is very refined. Can't wait to see her when you've smoothed and painted her! She will be so lovely!
