Hi. I decided to post about my bjd project. This is my very first bjd doll. Please let me know what you think about her. I´m aware she looks a bit dirty on the pictures, but I´m thinking about casting her in resin when she is finished. I´m sorry that the pictures are not so good. I will try take better pictures later.
Thank you all so much for your lovely comments. Dark Sakura: She is made from fimo puppen (polymer clay) . Kim in Mo. She is about 14 cm with head and torso, about 5 2/4 inches.
Oh wow!!! I'm even more impressed given her small size! Her detailing looks perfect. Any plans to cast more than one if you do cast her in resin?????
ohhhh i love her face!! I think she's gorgeous and I like where her joints are located I thought you did a splendid job with her
Kim in Mo: Thank you! Yes, if she will turn out ok and when I have figured out how to do molds, I will then cast more than one. Kasita : Thank you
She is just beautifull!!... i cant sculpt at all with polymer clay ops: you did a great job,..and her expression is really charming  I cant wait to see her completed !
A litle update on my doll. I´m working on her legs now, been struggling with her joints to make them fit. If I´m going to make another doll, I will probably not use polymer clay, instead I will use air dry clay like ladoll and premier, cuase I think it has it advantages,I also thought maybe to use chavant cause it has some advantages too...hmm... Oh well, I´m learning a lot on this.
WOOT! looks great so far I love how she looks so far, she has such a delicate face and hope this doesn't sound wrong but I thought the breast are really well done, very poportionate lol Will you be casting this is resin?
She's beautiful. She has a really lovely face. You've done a wonderful job so far. I'm so impressed with all of the wonderful sculptors on the board.
Thank you. Yes hopefully I will cast her in resin. I am also impressed by all the others sculptors on this board, really fun to see how it evolves for everyone and to see how everyone has their own style
She really looks great! She has a sweet childlike face that is done really well and the proportion looks apropriate though she does look young 12 -13 maybe. Im surprised that she is a first attempt. have you never sculpted before? I wont feel so embarrassed to show my dirty doll now !Im not alone! *hugs self* I posted black and white images to help it not look so bad the polymer clay is a dirt magnet! Nita
Thank you, yes, I have sculpted some sculpts before, I started in april and have made some fairy/ pixie sculpts, however this is my first attempt to do a bjd. I actually wanted her to be older like 16 -19, but still have a young face that some people can have, and wanted her to be slim and not to curvy but still not to flat...heh. Yes I agree, polymer clay is really a dirt magnet , and I also work too long before I bake it so you can imagine the results ops: But hopefully I will cast her in resin , and if not I can always paint her
Blah there went my post and I forgot.. what did I say?... .. . she is realy good for having started so soon! I agree about the age thing. its a guideline not a hard fast rule and anyway the anime influenced faces have traditional babyish features round forehead, large head and eyes full cheeks etc. She will probably look older too depending on her face up. I finally cast my head in resin..and its a wonderful strange feeling like..did I make that?? They turn out so professional when cast! I think your girl would look awesome in resin. Nita
Whooo, you have cast the head in resin, I´m so jealous I want to do that too, I can´t wait!!! Was is difficult to do that? Is it difficult to find the materials? Sorry for my many questions. ..heh. Do post pictures when you have the time , I´m sure she looks awsome in resin! And thanks again for the nice comments about my doll
Yes I made a junk mold of the head and cast in white alumilite resin. I have to drill out behind the eyes and sand this casting up for the second mold..she almost doesnt need it though because I was careful about refining the sculpt. Ill post as soon as I have eyes in and she looks human. The body is really holding things up though. I really want it to be as perfect as possible. So, I got a head laying around without her bod! The moldmaking materials are expensive... for me anyway . I bought just enough to mold the head one paycheck and now I have to get enough for the whole body..perhaps molded twice..not sure that will be nessisary. The resin isnt really expensive and its not hard to work with ,though I did discover when they say 3 min set up time they mean it. Dont try to stir it longer or it will set up before you can pour it! There was no odor and the stuff by itself look like a semi translucent white wax. You can buy everything online no problem finding it. I think its really worth the trouble. You can tint the stuff any color and also put porcelain powder for a nice texture. It also is not as breakable as polymer clay, has a flawless complextion..no moonies or dirt. Im considering using it for non jointed dolls as well. Nita
Thanks for the info, I appriciate it a lot, makes me less scared about trying to cast my girl in resin. I have also been thinking about making a junk mold first so you can make her even more smoother and even. My girl has a lot of moonies and is very dirty, it makes it harder for me to see if she is smooth or not and I want her too to be as perfect as possible. Bunni: Thanks!
Yeah the resin is easier to sand and scrape than the polymer and will hold up to rough handling while refining. Polymer wants to gunk up sandpaper. Also for me my head was so small and thin I didnt want to risk shattering it by drilling out the eyeholes. My body has been sculpted of several scrap clays so she is marbled and with dirt! it does make it hard to see what your doing! Nita
What beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >o<!!!!! Your doll is great!! I really like her!!!!! If someday you sell one sur I´d buy one for me!!!!
An update on my doll. I have made her legs and feet now and I am working on her arms at the moment. I´m going to make option parts like highheel feet. I also made a white faux fur wig just to see how it whould look like, ^_^ I also wanted to thank you all for the lovely comments i have recived about my doll. Here are some pictures.
Wow... Your girl is beautiful! I'd like to ask you something if it's okay... After you bake the parts, for example,a head, and then later you want to add some more detail... Can you add more features and bake it AGAIN? Or would it burn the already baked parts? I want to try making a BJD out of it but I'm not sure about that ^^;;
Thank you . Yes you can bake it several times, I find it easier to do so because then you have a hard base to work on aswell. However sometimes it does get burned, since it depends on the owen. My doll has not been burned but I dont bake the parts too long either and I dont exceed the recommended temperature, I think you just have to find what works best on your own owen. My doll is very dirty cause I have been working a long time on her, but I dont worry so much about that cause I will cast her is resin at the end  Good luck with your bjd!
She is lovely I can't wait to see her with arms and hands So you are going to get her cast in resin? She's beautiful now- she looks like a little forest elf that's been playing in the dirt all day  She'll look like a princess when she's 'cleaned up' Fairysquisher
Aaaw!! Thank you all. I have not been working so much on her the last months because I have had difficulities with the polymer clay. And also because I realize I must buy a vaccum chamber and a pressure pot and an air compressor to do molds and casts. I live in Sweden and it is not easy to find the materials I need here, so I have have to maybe buy some stuff from other countries. That will cost me a lot !! I bought some air dry clay and started to do a larger doll (about 35 cm ) and it is much easier, I wish I had used this clay when I did my first doll. But I have not given her up. I have been working on her lately but it takes a lot of time because I find polymer clay a bit difficult after all.....
she's so cute! i especially love her face and her feet  they're a bit oversized and it just gives her this adorable, childish look.
aww, thank you so much for your intrest in my doll, it really warms my heart It is so sad that I have neglected her recently, I just found the joints a bit tricky, and she is quite small too, about 27 cm long! I guess i should have worked on a larger doll as my first doll project. But I will not give her up!!! I do work on her occasionally because I do think she deserves to be finished
