My bishonen (Nudity) Dark Skintone Pics

Nov 26, 2004

    1. Hey All,

A couple a months ago i mentioned that i was working on a personal project to create a more mature looking male doll.

WELL I FINALLY HAVE PICS!!! YAY :D

First off this is a work in progress,..it is in no way finished and the pieces shows still need major work, sanding, fitting, pinholes filled, recast and coremolds made ect....(aside from that all of his other parts that need sculpted/cast!! )

But it does give a good idea of what the finished dolls will look like and their scale (i stuck my El in there for comparrison) the finished dolls will be about 29 inches tall,..(i think just slightly taller than berman)

The head shown is what ive been calling the "evil bishonen head" pretty but a little wicked looking  ,..i intend on doing a few more heads once i have the one, and the rest of the bodyparts finished.

Ill post some pics of my hand sculpts and mold pics a ilttle later if anyone is interested in seeing.

I think the resin im using is the same one luts uses (as you can see the color and texture match perfectally)

    5. He is beautiful. Cant wait to see him finished. You did an excellent job with your BJD creation. :3

    6. That doll is wicked! :o

Big congratulations on an awesome job so far!! Keep us posted!

    7. HOLY CRAP~!!!! That is soo cooooll!!!!

    8. *clapclap* that's very very nice. ^__^

he looks very good! more pictures would be nice, if not to trouble you. :3

    9. WOW that is incredible! He looks totally professional! If you made more you'd for sure find buyers, more mature looking dolls are rare.

    10. WOw! He is beautiful =0
How long have you been working on him?
You must have a lot of experience! I can't wait for more photos and updates!

    11. WOW he looks great :3 awesome XD

      you aren't an amatuer, right?

    12. Ooooh.... wow. I'm veryvery impressed, you've obviously put a lot of research into the project, and even having the very little experiance I have with casting and sculpting I can imagine the scope of work it must be.
Very, very wow. Can't wait to see more work. ^^ Even if the nipples do scare me. Oo; *malenipplephobic*

    13. That's amazing!!!! :o :o :o

      Congrats on your wonderful sculpture!!!

    14. Thanks Evereyone!! :D

To answer a few questions,(if i forgot any, im sorry I promise ill try to get them next post) Ive been working on him in my spare time for about 3 months, but next week im going to have more time to work on him so the progress should speed up a little bit.

I promise ill post a few more pics this eve, soon as i get home (im on my laptop now)

This is the first time ive done a BJD although in the past i did work professionally doing puppet/prop fabrication, so i have had lots of previous experience sculpting/casting/sewing ect... Its kinda nice to have finally found a creative outlet i enjoy that combines them all into one

and again, thanks for all the support!!

    15. LOL ,... malenipplephobic

    16. That is honestly amazing. I can't wait to see more pictures.

    17. He's so cool! Looks like it took a lot of work! :chibi

    18. man nips don't bother me that much but wow! he's got some wicked ones there... is he cold?

Very nice... Reminds me of when I'd go up to the creature shop at AIP and see all the sculptures. Very nice! I can't wait to see him with a wig and face up and eyes and such.

    19. You're talented to say the least!!
umm.. need to shift them nipples towards center tho * I know I know more tweaking you'll be doing*
Can't wait to see his female counterpart *hint hint* ;)
If this works, this guy of yours could be a papa or uncle stand in, for any of those younger looking bjds.

Keep us posted on the progress, you hear :daisy

    20. Thanks
He should look allot better with eyes and a faceup, after the next molding of the head, ill do a coremold so i can cast hollow heads, and then ill be able to put actual eyes in him (i really cant wait for that stage!) adding the eyes really brings them to life

Oh wow you went to aip as well,..i went there back in 90, out of highschool i was awarded a full scholarship into the IDT program and i graduated in 93, i havent been to the new building yet, it looks cool though....they used to keep the IDT people in the basement in the old schools location  lol

    21. *whips* back you fiends! back into the pits where you belong! lol

Actally the IDT shop is on the 8th floor and the kitchen is on the 9th. you do know we have cooking students now... right? But the battles still continue... if any of the culinary students tried to pull a knife, we'd counter with our excatos and t-squares. LOL it's mostly because the cooks won't shair their food with the starving artists... IDT also resents the fact that the culinary students have more room than they do.

The photography and video students are in the "cave" or basement now, makes much better sence. *nods*

I had a tour of the old building and I'm glad I enrolled after they moved. those elevators looked scary and the floors and cillings were too low/high.

(sorry for the off topic-ness but there aren't many people here that went to my old school ^^;)

    22. wow. I always wanted to make my own BJDs.. is there anywhere I could LEARN to make molds and stuff like that? Im almost done with school (graduating with psych degree in may) and moving up to Salisbury MD. I looked at the art programs at salisbury, but they have sculpture.. but nothing about casting...

Wow.. i really wish i could do that ;_; Think you'll ever post a how to tutorial page? XD I'm so hopeless! I really want to pick up my art once i graduate and move, hopefully being able to work on my comics and sculptures while i'm just working instead of splitting it off with school.

      He looks faboo.

    23. :o

Holy chit! F'awesome work, I cannot wait to see more!

    24. Wow he looks amazing :o I am very curious to see him with eyes and a face up

    25. i wonder what a centuar doll would look like XD ::tries to figure out where the joints would be::

    26. That's a amazing job !!!!! :o Really I mean it ! :D Scultp is so detailed, and a mature guy ! Oh my god ! Great !!!!!!
Can't wait to see other pics and... face-up !!!!!
That's great that you're planning to do other heads...
What do you think of Unoa head plates ? I still don't have mines, but I've heard they are easy to change, and I think that's more fun ! (for the photostories, it could be helpfull, no ?). But I guess it's a little late....

keep on going ! and keep posting ! :D
      Isabelle

    27. Donn the guy is so HOT
You did a great job! the details , sculpting looks really flawless and looks extremely proffessional :chibi
Cant wait to see the pictures when you finish him!! :D

    28. The face is wonderfully made, if not what I'd look for in a doll of my own. It's very long, and I tend to like faces more like those on the F-29/17 or the Kohya/Tohya headmold... But it's still beautiful...very gorgeous... and very well sculpted!

But the body...! **swoon** Oh my god! I'd buy one! **dies** Please, PLEASE tell me you're going to offer casts of him....

      ... .... **another swoon**

    29. Thanks Everyone!!

(if i forget to address anyones questions i apologize)

Even though he is larger than most SD sized dolls he still is in scale, since most of them are sculpted to look around 13-14 yo, In photo stories he could easily be a father/ older brother type character or posibly even an older version of a SD, using a SD with similar faceup/hair in possible flashbacks remembering his youth (i like this idea!!) for all you wanting to do epic photostories where characters age 10-15 years !! now theres a way lol

I might do a tutorial on basic mold making eventually, im not sure how many people would be interested in the techy stuff, but im sure there are at least a few,..untill then take a look at www.smoothon.com ,..there are a few good tutorials on that site, for molding and casting. the best way to learn how to sculpt is to simply get yourself some clay and play with it a little every day, sculpting classes are a good way as well.

I love the idea of easily changeable faces/heads, the heads on my dolls will be rather easy to take off/change, more like volks as opposed to luts (Els head is a pain in the butt to get off, it makse me crazy) and ive figured out a very simple but effective way to keep wigs on that doesnt require sewing velco to a wig or sticking anything sticky on the doll (its soo simple im suprised no other doll company has implemented something similar)

Im not sure when the first versions will go for sale, im shooting for Jan/Feb,.. so im keeping my fingers crossed that no setbacks occur..

Everyones kind words have really given me an energy boost!! tomorrow i shall finish the lower arms!! :D

In the next two posts ill post some progress pics

      Thanks again everyone

    30. This is going to be an awesome New Year!

So you're out with this doll.

And apparently Volks will be out with an SD16 next year too.

The world will be populated with dolls! :o

      :)

    31. Heres a work in progress pic of the hand sculpt,...Im still at least a day or two away from finishing these (sculpting hands is rather tedious)

    32. and heres a pic of the head mold (for those that are interested in making molds,..the original clay head sculpt is there as well

    33. :o :o :o
This is so cool! I love seeing all these progress pics!!! :D :D :D

    34. Ahh this is a heavenly project. You're a great sculptor. This is so incredible. I love the mold. I love everything about this guy. I'm just... speachless. I'm going to follow this avidly. I hope I can afford one by the time you decide to put him out. I hope you do.

      *is all jumpy with excitement.*

    35. wooooow *_*

you and leechy are my idols. *_*

      I'll check out the links, but i really hope someday you do a tutorial. Bring your boy if he's done to OTakon so I can play with him ^_^ I should have an art table again unless im made to work ;_;

But i already booked two hotel rooms ^_^ Wee!

    36. Wow.. those are so awesome! I can't wait till you start producing them. XD;;; *starts saving* I was a sculpture student for a while... but my teacher didn't like the doll idea because it was too girly. e_e good luck on finishing it! please please keep posting pics! :D

    37. very coooool! you have a lot of skill and patience, I really wish you luck and will be looking forward to seeing more!

    38. I have a question! Feel free not to answer if you're busy.
How long did this take? How many inches/and or cm is he tall? Do you know the size of wig he would wear?
I like him like no other male doll before. He's amazing. I already have a name picked out... :blush

    39. Wow, you've done a great job!

I'm not even near finishing any of my dolls. I've started like, 4 dolls but I always end up having problems with one and starting a new one. Though, I am almost done with a very small BJD (sort of like the ones Rain Man makes). I'm also not that great with making bodies. Well, my torsos aren't bad it's the arms and legs I have problems with. But I really enjoy making heads, that's always the best part for me. I'm also hoping to start selling them and eventually creating a small BJD company. I'm a long way off, but I'd love to do that.

What products do you use? My biggest problem is that I use Sculpey and I can't get the results I want with it. I always end up getting cracks after baking my dolls and I don't know how well they would do if I were to make molds from them. I haven't really thought of any molding materials as of yet but I've been curious as to how I'm going to make hollow parts. I'm hoping that I can find sort of casting plastic that can be rolled out thin and placed in the mold, but I haven't seen anything like that.

Also, my joints never really turn out well. Like, my shoulder joint wont fit well in the shoulder socket. How do you get them to fit together?

Ok, too many questions lol. I can't wait to see your finished dolls, and it'll be nice to have American BJDs.

    40. It's so exciting to see someone come out with their own doll- from molds and resin and *everything*. Straight from your mind to the doll. Also to see it in a completely different style and age than other dolls.

I, too, have been trying to make a doll. I've started several, but usually end up just startng another one. I have about five heads now, of varying sizes and types. Can never finish anything. My latest has been an older boy, also about bermann's hight.

Seems there are a lot of ambitious people here.

Great job! Can't wait to see him completed! With wigs and eyes, as well...

    41. Awesome job!! The face is gorgeous, and the hands are just beautiful! Can´t wait to see him finished! You´re really talented!

    42. looking gooooood :daisy , i see...............talent................. keep up the good work, ganbade

    43. - Simply amazing -

    44. you know, sans the ear you could make a sweet martial manhunter outta that bod, with a coat of green paint >=).

    45. I thought the EXACT same thing when I saw him, but didn't say anything for fear I'd offend someone. He's a LOT like Martian Manhunter (from "Justice League").

    46. Thanks again everyone

To answer your questions dagyevelyn he took about 3 months of my spare time so far, but soon im going to working on him more regularly so progress should speed up, he will be about 29 inches tall when finished, and he wears SD size wigs, the snug fitting ones seem to fit him a little better than the looser but im planning on an easy way to keep wigs on so it shouldnt matter if its a tiny bit loose, and he will use 16-18 mm eyes depending on the look you want for him.

Ill be at Otacon again this year dechanique, and i also plan on getting a table in artists alley to display and possibly sell finished dolls,...Im also planning on doing a special one of a kind cosplay doll to enter in the art gallery/auction.....so ill deffinately see ya there if work works out for ya (and everyone else on here thats comming to Otacon!! )

Thanks again everone!! im so happy that hes being well recieved

    47. Ill have more progress pics In a week or so

      Take care all

    48. I emailed my DM to see if those days were ok for me to take off :P Oohh! i hope you post pictures, i'll have to save money to bid if I like him :)

Well, if you are at artist alley too I'll have to come by with Hijiri (my con accompanyer- catboy) to say hello :D

    49. *floored* He's gorgeous! You are so very talented! ^^

And slightly OT, did you do your own face-up for El? He's so beautiful! ^^ Do you have other pics of him? And what's his name?

XD Gah. Im so excited now! ^^

      -Annie

    50. Hahaha- I'm definitly going to have to track you down at Otakon now, as I plan on nabbing a table in the AA as well! I would love to see him in person, you're doing such a fabulous job so far! =D

    51. Thank you for answering all my rambling questions. Wowie.. he sure is tall. Ehehhe. He'd make a nice companion for my dear Alice. :D
      I'm in love.

    52. WOW! I'm so excited! Too late for a Bermann but maybe a chance for one of your more mature guys!

      CathyL

    53. :o WOw , can't wait to see it done.It looks soooo cool.

    54. Puppets and props? Did you work in stop-motion animation??

Your dolls is really neat! He's so big! He could toss El across the room it looks like. Hehe.

      :daisy Wonton

    55. :D wow he is very cool. i hope i can afford one tooo

    56. He has the same gruff expression as my Bruce. *happy grin.* Way cool, I like him. He is awsome! :daisy And I love his ears.

Are his hands going to be in that position when they're done? Or will you pose them a bit?

I want to try and make dolls some day. Right now costs and such are keeping me back, not to mention sheer cowerdice when it comes to practising modeling.

    57. *SCREAMS* i want him ; ; *REACHI* omg AWESOME job. he's like THE sculpt that i've been dying for gyahaha XD

....*cough* if yer ever selling casts of him, i would so be interested. e___e;;; the more feminine male dolls don't appease me. *flail*

    58. Thank you so mutch ,..

I will be selling casts when i finish the prototype and make the master molds probably sometimes around Feb,.. when he's finished the hands will be more relaxed,..actually the hand sculpt ive shown is an open variant that ill have available as an option or additional part, the default hands will be more relaxed as opposed to fingers spread,..its just easer to make the default sculpture spread finger flat hand and then cast and modify...... Im going to try my best to get updated photos at the end of this week before i go on christmas vacation.. . i now have his lower arms and his one "hand pose" finished,....im sculpting the hips and his thighs at the moment...

take care and thanks again for your suppot everyone

    59. Ooh...can't wait for those update photos! I've been pining after this thread. ^_^*

    60. You are one talented guy
